I cannot say enough good things about Pets First Vet clinic here in San Antonio. I was fortunate enough to become a new client over a year ago. During that time, they have assisted me with the health maintenance of my three dogs and two cats. They even trim one of my cats nails, regularly. Who does that? They do :-) My cat needs it, trust me. Unfortunately, this last week, I needed the assistance with my oldest little terrier, as her health seriously declined. I had to make the painstaking decision to put her down. Emotionally, I am ill equipped for this task. The Physicians and staff at Pets first took all efforts to make this step, as comforting as possible for me and my pup. They literally rolled out the red carpet when I arrived and handled us both with such sincere loving, respect and genuine kindness. I feel so fortunate to have become their client a year ago. Not that this matters but the cost of this procedure was so gentle and affordable. I have heard other stories from my peers. I have suffered the loss of a long time canine best friend but I have the support of my professional team to remind me why a group like this, is so important in the all around Health and wellness for my pets and my peace of mind. I have a 3 year old chocolate lab that has been seen at this clinic since he was 8 weeks old... GREAT experiences and great service. Recently got my daughter a mini schnauzer and took him last week, adding grooming services here as well for the mini. Couldn't be happier with the experiences but of course the prices are always a concern now days with inflation. read more

First visit went well. Second visit not as good. They prescribed the wrong heartworm meds even after my sharing with them the brand we had been using for 5 years. Our Bella got sick on their brand. They changed the prescription. NO attempt whatsoever to inform us of an annual or renewal of meds. They also had written my email incorrectly in their system at some point. When I called to refill the subscription....now they want tests, and exams and costs that should not be a factor and refuse to refill the subscription. Shame on them. They are like the southern grandma that says "bless her heart" and anyone from the south knows it means the opposite! read more

Pets First has been awesome both to me and my animals on every single visit and in between. First, they have great hours. The open at 7am and allow drop off for later appointments and they are open until 2pm on Saturdays. I have been speaking to the Vet in a private room and exited to pick up my animal and have seen a desk staff sitting calmly with my animal in her lap, petting him gently and kissing his head. The staff is really just so sweet to the animals in every way, including checking in on the animal at any time that a pet parent calls. The place is super clean. Animal Planet is always on TV and there is a cute nook with park benches and painted walls of murals with dogs and cats (photo). There is also a nice selection of pet parent magazines to read if you are waiting. I just picked up our dog today (he is doing fine thanks) and am as pleased as always. Appointments fill quickly during Dental Month (Feb.) so make your appointments early. Pets First also offers boarding and grooming. read more

Right away we e realized we had found a care center for EVA, our elderly boxer. Had the best experience at Pets First this afternoon. Found a lost dog and needed to find out if she was chipped. At 20 minutes before closing, Brooke cheerfully greeted me in the parking lot with her scanner. Luckily enough... the dog was chipped. While the dog and I sat in the car on a hot San Antonio afternoon (Covid-19 Protocol), Brooke brought the dog a bowl of water. She was totally awesome! I've taken both my dog and my cat and they receive great care from the actual Doctors, but it seems like every time we come in contact with the lady on the phone (I won't mention a name) she is extremely rude, has poor communication skills, and is in desperate needs of phone etiquette training. This is a reflection on the staff as a whole and sadly she brings down the entire experience and makes me not want to come back or definitely not refer to other animal parents. The other techs who came to pick up my dog from the car and bring her back were pleasant, polite, and always have a great attitude! Experience: My husband takes care of paying she missed his phone call at pick-up time after my services were completed and she stepped out of the door and yelled at me from the door "he's not answering so I don't know what you want me to do" and went back inside. She didn't professionally walk to my car (I was in the 2nd parking space) and speak to me. She simply scolded me from afar and didn't even wait for a solution. Unacceptable. I hope this issue is resolved by my next furbaby's check up or we will need to find another place for care. I do want to say a huge thank you for everyone else who IS providing a great experience and service. They shouldn't get shunned because of one person's choice to act ignorant of their actions. read more

We have been using Pets First for two years now and they take such good care of our kids. I can call with a question or ask what can I do at home to help with my dog throwing up or anything like that and they will tell me an at home solution so I don't have to pay an office visit fee. Unless the condition worsens then I take them in. They do all of our kids vaccinations, and one of mine has severe allergies and constantly has to be seen. They gave us a free trial of Nexguard and it helped him so much with his scratching. We appreciate everything they have done for us. read more

I could never say enough good things about Dr. Meadows and Pets First. They have been my vet's office for 17 years now and I feel like they are extended family to me and my pets. Dr. Meadows always takes the time to really talk to you and make you feel like a part of the process and not just another nameless client. His staff is amazing. They consoled me when I was hysterically crying when my cat unexpectedly died in the office (she had cancer). They are always quick with answers to any questions and you can tell they love animals by the way they deal with clients' pets, as well as the office cats that live there. Those cats have baskets with towels in them and they lounge around in them like royalty, which is always fun to watch when you're waiting to be seen. I second the comment from the other reviewer about dental discount month. It's Feb. and Sept. and my mom saved a fortune on her dog's teeth cleaning. I highly recommend Pets First to anyone. read more

ive heard a lot of good things about this hospital from my friend who spoke highly of the staff and drs. the other day i called to request appointment for my newborn cat marker. person named vittoria answered the phone. throughout the conversation, she was rude and seemed reluctant to help. i asked for soonest appt. referred me to website to make appt. asked for her to look up and book thru phone. she acted frustrated and overworked and insisted the website will work. i couldnt find the calendar of avaibilie dates so asked if i could speak to someone else to book. she said shes helping me. asked if they were allowing pet parents inside building. sighed and said yes and then no. ?? probably just a bad day but dont want to deal with that. will try a different animal hospital. interaction felt very uncomfortable. sorry i didnt get to try. 3 stars because benefit of the doubt. read more

We have been taking all of our furbabies and sometimes our foster dogs to PFVC for about 4 years. I love them! We have seen them for everything from acute medical issues, to boarding, to regular health checks to end of life sorrows. They help keep me on track with vaccinations for everyone. The staff is awesome and friendly and helpful and accommodating. I most like to see Dr Gonzalez, for continuity and I really like her, but Dr Porter and the other vets in the practice are super too! There are probably places that are a little cheaper, but I am very very happy taking my pups to PFVC! read more

Our son's cat went missing over the past weekend and ended up being found and taken into the Pet' s First Veterinary to be identified. Within a matter of one day, the person who had taken George in was told he had FIV and made the recommendation to euthanize him. Being tested positive for FIV does not mean he had the full blow condition just as with humans having HIV doesn't mean you have AIDS. It is down right negligent and unethical to make a recommendation to euthanize an animal just because they test positive. George was not a stray or a homeless animal, He has a family who loves him and were looking for him. To top off the whole horrible experience, when we tried to collect the remains. They did not assist me in locating or even provide me with where his remains were taken to be cremated. The vet tech showed no remorse and was unapologetic throughout the call. The only thing this veterinary clinic is interested in is taking your money. They do not care about your pet or the families that love them. Pet's First Veterinary is negligent, unprofessional. I would never recommend taking your beloved pets to this establishment. read more

Pets First is one of the best vet clinics ever! First, the examination rooms and lobby are always immaculately clean and smell great. The people working the front desk are always extremely friendly and excited to see my dogs. Second, they are extremely gentle and sweet with my dogs. I have a 3 pound yorkie and an 80 pound Bull Mastiff mix and they are great with both. When my Bull Mastiff rescue freaked out on his first vet visit and peed pretty much everywhere they told us it was fine and immediately sanitized everything, while talking so kindly to my dog that he calmed down completely! We originally found them when we moved to San Antonio and my Yorkie started throwing up everywhere and generally extremely sick. We called several offices that wouldn't take her saying that they were full. Pets first told us to bring her in immediately and that they would make room! They quickly figured out the problem, fixed it, and gave her some fluids since she was dehydrated from all the vomiting. All while assuring me that she would be fine. We now use them exclusively. They are very easy to make appointments with, and are always extremely helpful about making it so you can pay for the treatment your dog needs. Truly, Pets First really cares about the animals they treat, it is more than just a business for them! read more

I visit my folks in San Antonio periodically and was on a recent visit when my little male yorkie became gravely ill. I called a couple of places who had me come in hours later. When I called Pets First, they said to come in right away which is what I needed. The place is very nice with an open feel, very clean and no dog smells. Staff was nice and helpful. Dr. Gonzales saw my yorkie, gave advice and medications that helped him. I was appreciative for their immediate attention and care. When I arrived back to Austin I needed paperwork faxed to my pet insurance which they did promptly. I was impressed with them from beginning to end and will use them as my vet on my trips there. I took my golden retriever here to have him groomed! They asked very specific questions and even called me to make sure that they knew what I wanted! I was extremely happy with the results!! My dog looked perfect and was exactly how I wanted him groomed!! The staff is always friendly and they go out of their way to greet us and my dog when we enter their facility!!! Very thankful to have found this place. My dog Charlie had an upper respiratory infection and I decided to get him at pets first. The Dr and and staff were all very helpful and kind. Also, It is very affordable (probably the most affordable in San Antonio) Facility was very clean and had a comfortable feel. I will be going back here again if I need to. Also, my vizsla charlie is already at 100 percent with only two days left on his antibiotic cycle. read more

Dr. Sanders was EXCEPTIONAL. My wife and I have been taking our lovely pet ever since we moved to San Antonio (2 years) and the care provided by Dr. Sanders and the team in the clinic has ALWAYS been above expectations. This very weekend (Saturday) we took a sudden visit to the clinic as we found something abnormal on our pet, we walked in the clinic and despite the fact that we did not have an appointment and they were about to close Dr. Sanders and her team welcomed our pet and us to be seen. This speak volumes to us as Dr Sanders did not hesitate to see our beloved pet despite the late hour and sudden appearance without appointment. The experience was ok. On previous visits the wait was not as long. I was told by the vet after vaccine administered, "Someone will be with you to go over the results of the heartworm test". I waited for about 18 minutes until I got up and asked "was someone coming back in?" The receptionist apologized that no one told me we were done. I was not told what the results were but was given a prescription for preventative care. Essentially what should have been a 40 minute visit took an hour. Still it's faster than most vet clinics I've been to. read more

This is the most caring veterinary clinic I have ever been to. They take the time to make sure that you and your pet are comfortable with everything they are doing. I took my dog here for the first time to get groomed and they called me to double check I was okay with how they were going to groom my dog and wouldn't do anything without making sure I was okay with it. From the receptionists to the vets to everyone in between, this place is great. 10/10! read more
