I found it a little sweet but it did all the basic well and is probably the best onion soup on the island. My main was a special of the day and definitely the highlight, dover sole grilled in butter and garlic. They had offered to prepare it however I liked but the waitress suggested it in this manner and I loved it. The fish was very tasty and the butter and garlic were great. Had creamed spinach with it that was also very good. For dessert, I had the chocolate mousse. Nice strong flavour and relatively light dessert after three courses. They also had a good, reasonably priced wine list. Finally, found the service quite friendly and French without the bad parts of French.

The french onion soup was excellent. Think about it. It's the 27th of June, i.e. mid summer and in a packed restaurant everyone is eating piping hot soup even as sweat beads are building up on their foreheads. The right amount of cheese to soup ratio. Cheese and onion perfection. We also shared some garlic snails and they were good. I only wish there were more of them! For the main we had the chateaubriand (the tenderloin fillet) and it was good. It was originally served rare when we ordered medium rare but this was quickly corrected. The staff were very attentive and service was good. The chateaubriand came with sides of mushrooms, fires or potatoes, veg and onion rings. We decided to instead order sides from the menu and got creamed spinach ( very good and you should order this! my wife raved about this.) fries ( crispy and salty as they should be) tomato salad ( It was ok but nothing to rave about) mushrooms ( again, ok but not something to go crazy about) and baby potatoes. (surprisingly they didn't charge us extra for changing our sides. Very impressed with this as I expected and was prepared to pay for this.) We wanted to have dessert however I was too stuffed! I will come back again for the soup and to try the creme brûlée. The wine list was also very good. We had the pinot noir and it was nice and generally we felt that the wine was priced very reasonably. Downside is the layout of the restaurant. Its very tight and you should try to get a window if you can ( i asked for this with the reservation but did't get this even though I was promised it.) My wife could barely avoid the guys ass next to us when she stood up! Thank goodness he wasn't one of those silent farters you get on airplanes! The tables are also too low and not wide enough. If you are above 4 foot in height and more than 150 lbs then you need to be aware that this restaurant is not built for seating comfort. Still, will I be back? You bet I will. The food is a 5. Good atmosphere and staff. Just a shame about the seating / table and it being too tightly packed. I will be back for the creme brûlée. It is calling me!

A few days before our visit, I emailed the restaurant to book a table and to request a vegan option, as this is predominantly a seafood restaurant and booking in advance is a must, due to its popularity among locals and those who make a special trip to enjoy their locally sourced ingredients. I was assured that the chef would ensure there would be a vegan option available for me, so I was stunned when I arrived to find that they had prepared a vegan menu for me, with a choice of three starters and three mains, any of which would have suited me perfectly. After a lot of deliberation over the amazing offerings, I went for oyster mushrooms in garlic and parsley olive oil, followed by tomato and pimento risotto, with spinach and rocket, then finished off with coffee and mints. This is fine dining at its absolute best and everything was so delicately crafted and perfectly flavoured in a way I have never experienced before. My boyfriend loves seafood and he adores this place, always opting for the seafood platter, which is a mountain of weird and wonderful seafood, which he assures me is delicious. The fish couldn't be any fresher as it's caught right outside the door and everything is sourced locally so that the ingredients are of the highest quality. Campbell's is the nicest restaurant I've ever been in, due to its superior food, staff who make you feel like royalty and perfectly laid tables with hand-crafted cutlery and napkins folded to perfection. It really is a cut above the rest in the area and well worth a journey to Portpatrick.

The Rabbit Hole is a Social Enterprise set up by Aberconwy Mind to provide real work experience and training for "people who are experiencing or have experienced mental health issues" All profit is put back into the charity to continue delivering valuable support, training and mentoring for their trainees. It has a lovely atmosphere and being down below street level it is like entering into the world of Alice with its clock wall paper. You can either sit at the tables near the kitchen or in the wonderful lounge with its rather comfy sofa and walls decorated with book wallpaper. The staff in the Rabbit Hole are lovely and polite, willing to help and explain the drinks and menus to you, also letting you know which of the foods that are available are gluten-free, suitable for vegans and if they have nuts in or not. As this was a "light" lunch, we had a lovely soup and then coffee and cake but the menu looked inviting.. The choice is great and it was very helpful of the "Rabbit" chef to explain what each cake was and what was in it. It has free wifi and I embarrassed myself somewhat by asking the guy on the laptop how long he was going to be, only to discover it was his laptop and not for general use. He was great and let me use it and I gave him the name of a website "Food that doesn't hurt" as he was looking for good recipies. Both of us happy chappies. It is very good value for money and a lovely place to sit and chat. Highly recommended if you are ever in Llandudno,

Firstly, the restaurant and its location: Voltaire is situated near to Bangor pier. It's an attractive, bohemian restaurant with Moroccan style colours and furnishings but with a few modern twists thrown in like skateboard decks on the walls in place of the usual wooden carvings. It's a relaxing, cosy place to eat and a lovely place to spend a few hours. The staff: All of the staff were super-friendly, attentive but somehow still totally chilled! They were really helpful when we were choosing from the menu and genuinely seemed excited by the food that they offered. The food: Obviously I'm saving the best bit to last with this review! What can I say about the food? Well, it's not a "wholefood" menu like the veggie restaurants of old that's for sure. Voltaire's menu is so naughty that you have to pinch yourself to remember that it's 100% Vegan! The initial difficulty is choosing as everything sounds sooooo tasty. When we eventually decided what we wanted we went for: * 'The Voltaire Burger' - Their homemade burger which is topped with mushrooms in a white wine sauce. * 'The Big V BLT' - Again, their homemade burger but this time topped with to-die-for Vegan bacon. * 'The Howlin' Wolf Platter' - This is under their 'Table Picnic' menu and is a sharing platter which two of us devoured and which the other two kept jealously pinching things from! It comes with 2 x cheeseburgers, mac n cheese, sticky Vegan ribs, southern fried tofu plus fries, salsa and coleslaw as sides and a few huge onion rings. It was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING and every bit of it tasted beautiful. For dessert two of us had: * 'The Rocky Road Sundae' - This had layers of chocolate brownie with marshmallows, ice cream, skinny Oreos and squirty cream and was fantastic. Drinks: * They had sold out of cider so I had a Conwy black IPA which was great. They had other beers too. * Voltaire has an extensive wine and cocktail menu. For "dessert" I had a Mojito which was really good and a nice way to finish what was a very special meal. Summary: Voltaire is an absolute gem. A Vegan wonderland nestling by the seaside. We can't wait to go back and try some of the other treats their menu has to offer!

Giro's Cafe - Vegan Cookery Demonstration by Kim Close (Jan 2016)

Giro's Cafe has been in existence for many years having been located in a few different buildings…read more However, it's currently within 'The Centre' (aka The Warzone Centre), Unit 9 Bruce House, Little Victoria Street, Belfast. This Vegan and Vegetarian Cafe is run completely by unpaid volunteers, hence the opening times can be irregular. However, those who run it do so with a love and passion for promoting the Vegan lifestyle and food served here is mouth-wateringly delicious. I've visited Giro's on a couple of occasions to attend events run by 'Plant Based Living' the non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting healthy plant based diets. I was amazed by the food each time. On my first visit I sampled a warming, hearty winter stew served with crusty bread. My second visit (yesterday 26.01.2016) was for a cookery demonstration by chef Kim Close. The main theme of this demonstration being Vegan cheese. Kim showed us how to make our own cashew cheese from scratch which was surprisingly simple and startlingly delicious! Said 'cheese' was then flavoured and we tasted the resulting savoury cream cheese with garlic and sun dried tomatoes on crackers. Even unflavoured the cashew cheese was tangy and exquisite. Dessert was a fresh ginger, lime and blueberry cashew cheese cake! Everything was fresh, tasty and delectable and all attendees at the event were delighted. The food was polished off in no time! At yesterday's Vegan Event I heard Giro's Café will next be open on Wednesday 24th February 2016 at 7pm. It's a relaxed, no need to book in advance and casual affair. Food will be a warming pot of something which will be decided closer to to the time and everyone's welcome. It's BYOB and in line with the Warzone Collectives DIY Anarchist roots you can re-arrange the tables to suit yourself and your dinning companions, bring a book and read, study, sketch, chat with friends or just chill and eat. Plus as Giro's is always on the lookout for volunteers you can also feel free to chip in and help out with the cooking or washing up if you so fancy it! Food is exceptionally cheap for such high quality, being in the region of 50p for a coffee, £3 for a main and £1 for a cupcake. Unrivalled value in this day and age! The best way to keep track of Giro's Café opening hours and events is to like and follow their Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/GirosCafe/.

We came for the ice cream and decided to have dinner too--might as well, right? Everything was delicious and super flavorful (we were missing having spices in our food after a month of English/Irish food during our travels). We sat upstairs where it was quiet and pleasant. Our waitress was super sweet and attentive, even though it required her to run up the stairs all evening. The decor was lovely. The complimentary rice puffs were a nice touch. We definitely finished off with ice cream. My boyfriend got fried ice cream, but it wasn't at all like the kind he is used to in the US. It was still good, he was just confused, haha. Our bellies were full and happy afterward. We would absolutely come back if we find ourselves on Isle of Man again. The only thing I didn't like was the bottomless tea. I got so excited that I could have plenty of tea with my meal, but it was basically hot water with a few leaves thrown in. I couldn't taste the tea at all as it was, and of course, when they refill it, it was just more water added to the same old flavorless tea leaves, and I have no idea how anyone could fall that tea. Disappointed in that regard. Otherwise, all was great!

While we have some very good Italian restaurants, Tuscany is different. First, it does the little things right, probably the most professional restaurant on the island. A few examples -- tables are booked to optimize flow, the server and kitchen don't get overwhelmed and you are not left sitting 30+ minutes -- the complimentary glass of Prosecco when you arrive puts the evening in the right mood (be nice if they offered a non-alcoholic option) -- the toilets have nice soaps and hand lotions as well as real wash clothes rather than paper towels -- the server does a great job of describing the specials While the above might sound minor, and would be the cost of doing business in London or Rome, it creates an atmosphere that makes the dining experience so pleasant. The food also lives up to the ambiance. Queenies (Manx scallops) appetizer comes in a nice Chardonnay sauce. My main was a pork shank special. It was quite large and had a nice, complex flavor with lots of fresh herbs. Only recommendation would be some crisper skin/crackling. Tiramisu was the perfect finale. Overall highly recommended.
