Made fresh to order. Just as delicious as at the main bakery. No line at 3:30pm on July 4. Had to come by here to compare to the main location. No cash. Debit and Credit card only. Friendly staff. They don't have the whole menu. We wanted the seasonal raspberry malasada. But, they don't carry it.
Leonard's goes mobile! Oh my gawd, these malasadas are incredible! They are 10x better when they are hot out of the fryer and the filling in the puffs are oozing! We've been to the Leonard's brick & mortar store in Kaimuki, but the long lines there can be discouraging. When I found their malasadamobile in Hawaii Kai near our cousin's house, we made a quick stop before visiting them and was surprised that there were not many people on line. The service was quick and the fried dough was hot in the box. Five minutes later, the box was cracked open and the aroma filled the room. Everybody got to try the plain sugar, cinnamon sugar, custard puff, dobash chocolate puff & haupia puff. My favorites are the custard and haupia. After half of the malasadas were gone, there were piles of granulated sugar in the box and I used the plain malasadas to scoop up the extra sugar for an extra sugar high boost! One downside to the mobile truck is that they don't serve drinks, only malasadas, so you can't get coffee to wash it down like at the store. And it is cashless, so have your credit or debit card ready to tap or swipe.
Just go. It's one of the best desserts on the island. Malasadas are amazing. People line up for these delights at the main location. Service at the windward mall is top notch. There is plenty of parking at this location. You will not be disappointed.

Don't have a chance to make it to the bakery, so the food truck had to do. It's located in the middle of a random shopping center parking lot. Took us a bit to find it. It didn't live up to the hype for me, unfortunately. I mean, fried dough is always going to be a treat, but I didn't love it. The original was my favorite of the three. Pillowy, good amount of sugar. The stuffed one was a disappointment. The coconut cream inside wasn't my favorite texture. It was more of a custard/pudding and the flavor tasted artificial in a way. Ben at the food truck you're paying a premium for these. I wonder if it's just aimed for tourists doing the loop and stopping at the lookout points. There's a picnic table if you want to take a quick seat to eat them but majority of people took them to go.
Leonard's malasadas was on my list of items to try while in Hawaii. I had planned on visiting their brick and mortar, but was pleasantly surprised to find their maladasamobile while driving to and from our hotel. We decided to stop by on our last day, right before hiking the the Koko Crater Trail. To our surprise, there was no line. We ordered one of each of the malasadas puffs: custard, dobash (chocolate), and haupia (coconut). They were $2.45 each. The malasadas came out hot and fresh minutes later. We sat on one of the benches briefly to taste them. The dough was light and airy and all three filling flavors were delicious. I especially enjoyed the dobash and custard. Leonard's is definitely worth a stop!
We got here this morning at around 930am and there was a line. They are pretty fast with service so you dont wait for a long time. We got the cinnamon sugar which is an all time classic for me. And my partner got the custard filled. We compared it to Penny's which is what we had yesterday. Leonard's is definitely the best!!!! I got a few to go. It just melts in your mouth kind of softness. Will definitely buy some before I head back to California this sunday.
We found this truck on the way to Hanauma Bay and we were very excited since we tried to go to the brick and mortar bakery and it was a disaster. We got a few different stuffed donuts and they are worth the wait, even in the rain. I recommend trying all the different varieties, but the chocolate filled one was the best in my opinion.
This food truck is located in the mall center. Since it's a truck, they only offer malasadas here, even though their main location carries a wider variety of pastries. Service can be a bit slow, especially if there's a line. hey're definitely the best malasadas around and absolutely must be eaten fresh! Sometimes the classic (without filling) is just as good as the more popular filled options. A must-try!
Good malasadas in a non-descript strip mall. Came here after Hanauma Bay. There's plenty of strip mall parking. Grabbed a few malasadas - think I preferred the filled ones over the originals, but feel the filling gives a little bit of moisture to the malasadas. Would come back!
Leonard's Bakery Food Truck, located in a parking lot of a shopping center. I ordered a regular malasada with sugar and cinnamon, it was soft and delicious! It hits different fresh out the oil and eaten immediately. Light and airy goodness!
Stopped by after a Koko Head hike. The malasadas were amazing! They were freshly fried and piping hot. I liked the ones without filling more - both the original and cinnamon were light, airy, and delicious. I thought the fillings (I tried custard & coconut) could've had more flavor. Parking was easy, and there was a very short line at 8:30am. Service was friendly and extremely fast.
Absolutely amazing. Stopped here for a pick me up snack. Donuts were so soft and fluffy and made fresh. We got them pretty quick and they were pipping hot. Best stop ever. We started with 4 donuts to try: Orignal, Cinammon, Li Hing, and the Chocolate filling. We inhaled the donuts in the car and came back for more Got the coconut to try, another one of the cinnamon and the Li Hing. They also had the custard filling that we haven't gotten round to yet. Our favorites were the Li Hing and the Cinammon flavor. The chocolate filling was pretty good too. It leaned more towards a dark chocolate flavor, so not too sweet which is great. Obviously we came back for round 2. Might stop by for a third round

Fresh malasadas hot and ready to eat with no line? Yes please! This is my kind of food truck! I absolutely loved their recipe for custard filled malasadas and their subtle use of Li Hing on their plain malasada. I cannot wait try all the flavors! Such a soft breaded center and a bit of a crispy exterior makes for the perfect beach snack, as they hold up well in the heat. read more
Malasadas made me forget that I've cut down sweets in my diet!!! Heck, I totally regret I've ever made that decision! Sheesh!!! After one bite of this heavenly Portuguese donut, ALL HELL BROKE LOSE! I couldn't help it, though. They were so sweet coated with sugar, freshly deep fried in oil, and soft like a baby's delicate skin. I should've stopped at one regular malasada. I became obsessed and felt my defenses failing. I had a few bites of the cinnamon malasada! Guilt came over me. I knew I had to stop. I sat on the grass with my fambam, breath shallow cold prickling over my skin despite the hot humid air. While I wrestled with my inner demons, I glanced at the malasada with its creamy filling. I was curious. So I took a bite. Just one bite. My subconscious was frantically fanning herself and my inner goddess was swaying to some primal carnal rhythm. I resisted another bite. Koko Marina has got a Leonard's Malasadamobile! What is usually a two week affair has turned into one month going on two months. Right now this highly distinctive red and white striped mobile stand is scheduled to stay at Koko Marina through the end of July. No regular, glazed, or twisted donuts, or donut holes here. It's all about their pillowy Portuguese donut without holes. Regular malasada options are the original sugar coated, cinnamon sugar coated, and li hing sugar coated. They also carry the custard stuffed malasada puff, in custard, haupia, and chocolate dobash fillings - no flavor of the month here. Wait times vary. Tourists will order one of everything and walk away with a pink plastic bag. Locals generally order by the box, or two, or three. A few of these sized orders means a loooong wait - but the upside is when your order is ready it will probably be fresh and warm. If you want to eat then go you will have to walk over to an outside table by the shops - Starbucks is a good option. Otherwise, do it local style - put an open box on the warm engine hood and let everyone dig in. I'm glad to have them through the end of July. After that I will probably be malasada'd out and ready to have them make another neighborhood happy. read more
Yess, Yessss and Yessssss! I've been coming to Hawaii for 25 years now and malasadas from Leonards have been my favorite food for all 25. You can't go wrong with the original flavor, but the haupia is pretty good as well if you like coconut. Why is the truck better than the bakery? Parking & no lines of tourists...need I say more... Good for breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert :) Check this place out because these pillows of dough covered in sugar will not disappoint! read more

My three favorite words associated with this spot are: "Original," "Cinnamon," and "Custard." I'm not even the biggest of dessert and sweets fan but found the food to be here epic. And after hearing how popular the brick and mortar was, I was super happy that this food truck exists near some of the activities I planned on participating in. The three items I had from here were delicious and I would go back in a heart beat. So why not the perfect five star review? Well two reasons. 1. This spot is cash only (with purchases under a certain amount), which I always find to be unfriendly to consumers. I could've overlooked this if 2. The guy that helped out was a little nicer. Asked him a brief question about the menu which he was unwilling to answer and trust me I planned on being faster than anyone before me or after me... I definitely am very fast paced by island standards and was polite to him. But would I go back? Heck yes, it's that delicious! I'll just be prepared to reciprocate the attitude given to me! read more

We were on our way to a hike and decided that I need a boost. Ordered a 6-pack, 3 cinnamon sugar and 3 Haupia. They were hot and fresh... so good. I ate 4 all by myself. read more

My review is mainly based on the service provided. The Man in the booth is very rude and doesn't listen to the customers questions at all. I would not come to this site again. The malsadas were good just not as good as what I have had in Waikoloa on The Big island. Better customer service would make this a better experience read more

Warm, doughy, sweet goodness. What more can you want?! The malasadamobile (absolutely love the name) delivered on its namesake. The haupia malasada we tried was a yeasty ball of deliciousness with a coconuty custard flavor. The li hing malasada was light and really tasty as well. Service was quick and efficient and we left feeling happy and wanting more! read more

Very delightful! We ate them fresh and warm. Got the cinnamon, custard, coconut and chocolate. The dough was perfectly soft and yet slightly crunchy on the outside. Very tasty. Would definitely come back. Would go wonderfully with tea but we didn't have any tea on us! read more

Leonard's is a staple in Hawaii. They have the best malasadas. They are sweet and very light. I've tried to find a good malasadas place in the mainland and never found a good spot. They are always heavy and taste like oil. This location is a food truck so you don't have to go visit their storefront. It tastes exactly the same! The good thing about it is there is barely a wait which can get annoying at their flagship. It's located near the koko head trail so it's a perfect snack after that strenuous hike. If you want to avoid the he long times it's a perfect spot to go if you want a quick snack and to avoid lines. read more

I'm not a big donut person in general but just had to try these things (malasadas) while visiting Hawaii-they are Portuguese donuts and it is very different, more dense and ?less greasy? than your standard American donut. Overall these were delicious and addictive! They come in three flavors - original sugar, cinnamon sugar, and Li Hing (sweet and sour sugar... which is a super interesting flavor!!! Just try it!). They also have puffs / filled malasadas but I didn't have a chance to try them. My only complaint is that they are very expensive at more than $1 per malasada... but still a delightful treat! read more
Delicious. Fried to perfection, lightly sugared. Filled with coconut is my favorite but they come in all kinds. Line was short and we took it then to the nearby Starbucks to eat them and have some iced coffee/tea with it. The food truck sells drinks too but no coffee. Very convenient location for after snorkeling at Hanauma Bay, on the way to Honolulu. read more

The malasadamobile is right down the street from home inside the Walgreens parking lot. I love their custard malasadas. Only going to give 4 stars because they don't have special flavors like guava. Lines are generally pretty quick and the cashier/bakers are very nice. They are best eaten within 1 hour for good pillowy consistency. read more

We were driving to Hanauma Bay, when we spotted Leonard's Bakery truck. My husband quickly turned the car around because I fell in love with Leonard's Bakery Malasadas last time we were in Honolulu. While waiting in line for about 20 minutes, I looked up the menu online and had my order totally planned out. I was so excited for it too. When my turn finally came and I placed my order with the lady, she was so curt with me saying, we don't have that and that. It took me a minute to collect my thoughts to place my order based on what she had and again she was so annoyed, almost angry with me. I ended up getting 6 malasadas and they were just as delicious as I remembered. Both my husband and my favorite ended up being the plain so next time I am going to get more of the plain. read more

I was so excited to go to this place it was right in the corner of our way to our place, but I was highly disappointed, the Malasadam wasnt fresh, and they had pretty good amount of customers not too busy not too slow, also I feel the filling wasn't Measure up with the actual bread, the dough was pretty yummy but felt it was sitting on the counter for a long time n on top the filling was cold so it didn't feel fresh. read more

After leaving Foodland Farms I hopped on the bus and went to Koko Marina Shopping Center. First thing I noticed when I got to the center was the Leonard's Malasadas Wagon. I went straight to the truck and was greeted immediately by the employee. I placed an order of two cinnamon coated malasada and two sugar coated malasada. The malasadas was very hot when I received them. I took my package and found an available table to sit at and enjoy the yummy malasadas. I ended up just eating one of each flavor. I need room in my tummy for another type of dessert. 23/100 read more
The donuts are bomb. We loved hitting up the food truck after a long hike. The order comes out piping hot and quite quickly. I ordered 6 of the regular donuts and one filled with chocolate. I didn't care for the one filled with chocolate, but the little girls I was with sure did! read more

Is this truck ever open? Everyday I've been coming to Koko Marina in hopes that the truck will be finally open to buy malasadas. They don't post their hours of operation on the truck or on this Yelp site. Anybody know?
I went today March 07, 2022, and the sign says 730am-6pm until further notice. Hope that helps.
