In the 20's and 30's it was a premier resort location on the French Riviera! Unlike the more famous Riviera beaches of today, the beach at Sablettes is beautiful SAND not rocks or pebbles. The hotel is very luxurious having been totally rebuilt a few years ago by a group of excellent French Hoteliers and rebranded under the Hilton chain as a Curio. We have had many excellent stays at this hotel that was recommended to us by Hilton. The little Galerie restaurant serves excellent food either indoor our outdoor in the garden with beautiful views of the "Deux Fréres" . The chef prepares wonderful cuisine, the wait staff is always friendly, excellent, and multi-lingual. We always enjoy an aperitif afternoons in the garden. This is one of the BEST locations along the French Riviera. Shhhh, please don't tell anyone!

It also has a bit of olive oil sorbet on top. It was gorgeous. my fish was less exciting in that it was fish on a banana leaf with a mango topping. Also a beautiful dish. I woudl go back here as there are not a lot of choices on the boardwalk to eat.

The starter had such great flavor that I used the fresh bread on the table so that I could get every last drop. The fish was expertly prepared with the flavor of the cod dominating yet enhanced by all the other flavors on the plate. Dessert was insane, just the fact that decorum dictates that I not have two is the only reason I stopped. With one small and one large carafe of wine and one large bottle of Pellegrino we were just shy of €70. Worth every cent, I'm here for another 8-9 days so I will definitely be back.

It is the bottom half of a typical French house; long windows with shutters and juliet balconies. It's part of a terrace on the waterfront, house and cafes all jumbled as only the French can do. Like the rest of village, the cafe appears sleepy, with perhaps a couple of patrons sitting in the sun with a coffee or carafe of wine. Inside, it is surprisingly cool and although simply furnished, you some how fel at ease. The barman will greet you in French - Var, similar to Marseillase. Talking liking wide mouthed frogs (no pun intended but please enjoy the humour). A pleasant man, he is not insulted by any mistakes you may make in his language and will patiently repeat his dialect until you understand. The food here is great. A small menu, but sooo beautifully done. Once, I was here while expecting my daughter, and once I had tried the moules, I was a goner. Every where we went, I had moules nearly every time! (The French think we are quite mad, avoiding certain food during pregnancy.) So here is a great place to watch the marina, the ferry come and go, and the occasional child being called to.

This is NOT your typical restaurant in touristy Aix-en-provence. We sought it out because a website described it as the sort of place that the Aixoise would go. Well, that may be, and I certainly would not blame them, but there were plenty of tourists there when we dined on a weekday. (They basically open at 8pm, a more French dining time, while most establishments in the city accommodate touristic tastes and open as early as 7. In fact, our rather entertaining waiter seemed to speak French, English, and German fluently (to hear him banter with nearby tables) -- although he couldn't manage Mandarin. How to describe the food? "Unpretentious" would be accurate but maybe slightly misleading. It is a fantastic deal for a full meal compared to most sit-down restaurants in Aix. Expect well-executed, classic but un-fussy French cuisine in a pleasant outdoor courtyard. The vibe is fun, even on a less crowded evening. The two of us had the summer special gazpacho (amazing, and quite spicy) and the chicken liver pate (also very good) for entrees. Our main courses were a steak and a fillet of veal, both served with french-fry-like hash browns and haricot verts. A plum clafoutis and a nicely caramelly tarte tatin rounded out this meal -- very traditional bistro fare. (Both desserts were tasty, without being mind blowingly good or especially original.) At 40 Euros (tax + tip included, of course) for two people, including one glass of house red and one coffee, I think Chez Charlotte's menu might be the best deal in Aix.
