We raked in and there is no charge. The helpful lady at the front desk was sure to answer any questions we had. We were the only ones in this beautiful, remastered Coast Guard's Building. There are rooms to use and an adorable child's play room full of books. There are multiple bathrooms and there is an elevator. The building is, at my best knowledge, wheelchair accessible. We had a great time looking around and will definitely remember this spot next time vacationing.

Owner Drew Smith exhibits and sells his stunning photographs, most taken in the area around Crystal Lake, Sleeping Bear Dunes park, and Traverse City area. He was happy to talk about his photos and where a photo was taken. You can also enjoy photos and watercolor paintings of birds, dragonflies, flowers, and scenery by local artist Carl James Freeman (sometimes he is working on a new painting in the gallery) Stop in to enjoy the art, get a taste of local scenery--and maybe pick out art to display in your cottage. I appreciate what the couple who run Northern Lights are doing; supporting independent artisans,…read morepromoting the arts and crafts aesthetic and lifestyle, and the like. And their stock is pretty nice, running the gamut from Ephraim, Lewellen and Mowabi ceramics to Schlabaugh and Sons clocks to Mica and Quoizel lighting, heirloom craftsman furniture, some interesting mass produced pieces, etc. For the past four or five years, I've made a point of stopping in each summer and buying something to take back home to Portland as a souvenir of my time in Frankfort, and I'd love to be able to give them more than two stars, but I'm afraid I just can't, due to their customer service. If they know you personally, or you look like you just stepped off a yacht, you'll get a warm welcome as soon as you walk in the door. If, like me, you're in shorts and a t-shirt, having just stepped off the beach and not looking like you have a dime to your name, they can be startlingly aloof, to put it kindly. There have been times it's taken them thirty minutes just to acknowledge my presence... Apparently, they'll be significantly dialing back the retail end of their operation at the end of the year to focus on lighting for building projects, so all of this is soon to be a moot point. Nonetheless, it's a shame they can't at least pretend to value all of their customers equally.

This little store had some unique items from all over the place. We saw michigan agate coasters…read morethat a friend of hers makes in Minnesota. I ended up purchasing a cute wooden penguin that she got from someone who purchased them at a show in Chicago. They do require masks and only allow ten people in at once. You must stop in at the front desk and get hand sanitizer before touching items to keep everyone safe. I think this is a smart idea. You habe to be careful woth children too because there are a lot of glass and fragile items.

The photograpy is wonderful, she does great work, finding barns and local places in the Empire Traverse city area. Her shots are very creative. The frame work is great, they help you find new ideas on how to mat and what frame to use. great little gem, to find. So many sizes, price is very afordable. A great gift for someone also.
