My family and I came for lunch on a weekday, so not all of the food stalls were open. We did a couple laps around the market, looking at the various types of food offered. The place has many types of cuisines, with both takeout and sit down options. For lunch, the majority of our group decided on trying the Italian restaurant. My mother had her own idea of what she wanted for lunch and wandered over to another restaurant. I like that you can pick and choose and find something that suits all. At the Italian place, I ordered the caprese and so did my aunt. My little cousin went with the lasagna and nephew ordered the spaghetti with clams. My sister went with this pasta with a marinara sauce. Food was delicious and affordable. After our meal, we walked around again and I ended up buying cheeses and crackers from the Fromager. Service wasn't too friendly, but really didn't mind as I was getting this to go. I later learned that the Marche des enfants rouges is the oldest market in Paris and dates back to 1628. I really love the history behind the market and the food that we ate that day. The only downside is that almost half of the places were closed due to the day that we went, so you never know what will be offered.

I especially loved the prepared meat in the stall near the entrance (they have many prepared items to choose from--I ended up loving the duck foie gras and duck rillette). Also, people were helpful and willing to deal with my poor French :) As another reviewer mentioned, there aren't many (perhaps any) ready-to-way meals. I was not disappointed. The pair that own the food truck were super friendly and helpful and enthusiastic about our enthusiasm. It was great. I got the Half Moon Bay Burger: Roquefort, blackened red peppers, lettuce, tomato, caramelized onions and of course a special sauce. The burger was done right, had enough fat so it wasn't dry and nasty and the bun was substantial and delicious. Oh, did I mention they offer SWEET POTATO FRIES? This is so uniquely American so obviously I got them. And they were spot on. To end the lunch I had a red velvet cupcake, that they gladly replaced for me when I received it, covered in walnuts (I'm allergic). The cupcake itself was a perfect level of moistness, and the frosting. Oh the frosting. Not cloyingly sweet, and had the perfect amount of cream cheese. I cannot wait to head back here for their blueberry pancakes/bacon combo some morning. Such is the case with Vélocafé, a coffee stand on wheels that's stationed outside of La Bourse Monday through Friday. I passed by the stand a few weeks ago and spoke briefly with the owners, a Danish couple that has taken their coffee appreciation to a new level by becoming the only mobile café in Paris. At the time I was sufficiently caffeinated, so I didn't order a coffee but today, when I walked by again, I was in desperate need of a little pick me up. I ordered a long espresso macchiato for 1.30E that was smooth, and creamy with a little bitter kick to finish, and decided to enjoy while talking once again to the owners to find out more about their unusual set-up. So, it took a lot of time and patience (surprise, surprise) for them to get a license to sell coffee out of a customized Danish bicycle, and while their concept is mobility the law restricts them from taking their stand on the road (ahhh, la France...), so they have to be stationed in one place all the time. Luckily for me, that place is close to where I work, so I know I can find them there whenever I want. If the concept works out they can start a fleet and place some more Vélocafés around the city. Now I'll raise a cuppa cappuccino to that!
