I had a tiny red dot on my upper lip . Dr Bussell said the id need a biopsy. I asked how I would look the next day as I had an event. She said I'd be fine and I could take the bandaid off tonight. Under the band aid was a weeping crevice that no amount of make up was going to cover . Two weeks later and I still have a quarter inch crevice with a red ring from the anaesthetic injection on my upper lip . It only just started to dry out . Biopsy negative. I really did not fit any profile for skin cancer . I'll probably have that scar for life .. I'm mad at myself for letting her do it at all .Moving on read more

I scheduled an appointment for a microdermabrasion, a treatment I've received before at this office. I hadn't been in about two years, and after booking, I received a call letting me know about a new $25 "administrative fee." While I already felt that seemed unfair, I still kept my appointment. When I arrived, I waited 20 minutes before being taken back--only to then be told that the price of the treatment had increased from $125 to $250. At no point during scheduling, confirming, or their call about the fee did anyone mention this huge price change. I ultimately left without receiving the service because of the lack of transparency and poor communication. This was a complete waste of my time and extremely disappointing. If there are changes in pricing, patients should be informed upfront--not after they've already arrived and waited. read more

AVOID! I also wrote a longer review under "Beverly Hills Dermatology Consultants" which also houses her practice. First, I was charged $35 to access my own medical records, which is unethical. California law: Health & Safety Code §123110. Contact the skin pathology lab they work with directly for free records, Laguna Pathology. Second, I was left with big ugly scars from mole removal because the PA or NP used a cone technique (left a crater after removal) and didn't sew it shut. I asked if it would heal flat and she said yes. They all healed raised, and I have very good skin that never keloids. I have had to pay out of pocket to get these re-excised despite pathology report saying they don't need to be, so they aren't scarred and ugly. Other dermatologists told me they had never seen a dermatologist use a cone shave biopsy method for this because it always leaves bad scars. I have documented photos of all my scars starting in office after the procedure, and the photo attached is probably the best looking and smallest one. Third, I was told I needed several more moles removed, something like 15 of them after the few I had taken off since insurance only covers so many removals per visit. Other dermatologists I went to after her for a second opinion told me this was crazy as I wouldn't have 15+ potentially cancerous moles, especially when some of the worst offenders were already taken off in the first round. I'm glad I never went back to her and went to other dermatologists for a second opinion or I would have had even more ugly 3/4 inch to 1 inch raised scars all over my body! Don't go here. read more

Less than mediocre practice. So many reasons to list, suffice it to say I'd been going here for more than 10 years but finally had to stop because it'd gone so very far downhill. Literally any other dermatological practice in Beverly Hills would beat this one. They require you to pay $35 to get a copy of your medical records, which seems illegal, and is definitely unethical. Don't plan on seeing the doctor--she's never in, the office is run by PAs. These PAs are now almost exclusively very young women in school. The turnover rate is high, and it doesn't seem that they treat their staff very well... and that flippancy trickles down to the care of patients. read more

I'm still fairly early in my journey with the practice (so take everything I say with a grain of salt). I'm 17 coming in for the typical teenage acne. Dr. Bussell and her assistants always make time for me and I'm cared for pretty well. I tried cortisone injections for pimples the other day and I really liked them. They got rid of the spot within a day and with minimal pain and discomfort. Same with the extractions. I will post an update with more info when the antibiotics (Keflex) kick in. Dr. Bussell herself is awesome. Lauren is awesome. And Faith is amazing and good at what she does. She's done my in-office procedures perfectly. These three work really really really well together. If you're skimming the reviews to know if this doctor is a good choice please let this review be your excuse to avoid this place. Don't make my same mistake. To the people who truly want to find a good dermatologist please look the other way and run. I was a new patient of Dr. Bussell and scheduled my first (and last) appointment only to show up and see the PA. I was quite annoyed that I was never even introduced to the doctor. This should have been my first red flag. Throughout the appointment I never once felt cared for since the PA decided to use medical terms the entire time and not feel the need to explain unless I asked. She was not thorough in the slightest and never even used a magnifying glass. As someone with lots of moles and previous history of atypical moles that could lead to skin cancer, derm appointments are very serious for me. I had two moles removed and had to wait two weeks to get my results back. I was told their "lab is slow". The PA called me to tell me my results two weeks later and said everything looked good. I asked her to please send me a copy of my results to have on file. I never got a copy of my results and now two months later I'm switching dermatologist and called Dr. Bussell's office to finally get that copy. After reviewing my biopsy results I find out that it was highly suggested that one of the two moles be completely excised. The PA never once told me on the phone that it was suggested that it be completely removed. She had me believe that everything was fine and dandy. It also says on the document that my biopsy was received the day after my appointment so I'm not sure why I had to wait two weeks to hear my results. It is very clear to me now that Dr. Bussell and her team are money hungry and could not care less about your health. I have never encountered such carelessness and poor decision making from "medical professionals". I am truly upset about this experience and feel scammed. read more

I've been coming for years and experiencing increasingly worse treatment. After asking for my prescriptions to be called in because their electronic system was not working, I was told my case was too complex and to go to a dermatology clinic. I have a mild case of acne. Instead of providing adequate medical treatment, I'm routinely told to buy more of Dr. Bussell's products. In my experience, the medical and administrative staff have failed me time and time again, most recently by charging me to see the doctor, prescribing me a medication I'm deathly allergic to, and refusing to call in the rest of the prescriptions because it's "against office policy." The long story: -After I pointed out that Dr. Bussell herself prescribed me a medication I'm deathly allergic to, they prescribed me the same antibiotic she was trying to replace, which had stopped working because she had been prescribing it to me for so long instead of treating the root cause of the issue. I told them that was the same antibiotic as before, so they prescribed me the one I told them hurt my stomach. I asked to speak with the doctor several times. She never called back. I was told that my case became too complex for her and I was referred to a dermatology clinic. I have a very normal case of acne. -Dr. Bussell prescribed several other medications during my visit, but only sent one to the pharmacy. I called daily to remind them to call the rest in because I was leaving for a trip overseas. They never knew which prescriptions to call in. I reminded them every time. They said they would only send them electronically and if the pharmacy hadn't received them (which they hadn't), there was nothing else they could do because they don't CALL pharmacies. They also said they wouldn't send a vacation supply, even though Dr. Bussell assured me they would, because they can't do that through their electronic system. When I got the pharmacy manage to call them, Dr. Bussell herself told them she had referred me to an outside clinic because my case was too complex for her. I have a very standard case of acne. What was too complex was having to call in prescriptions. -They routinely use the wrong codes to bill insurance so I would spend hours on the phone with their billing department every several months over the past few years re-explaining how insurance billing works to each new person they churn through. I have been coming to this office for over 6 years. Never once have I met the doctor in my entire life. I don't even know what she looks like. She is never in the office and is constantly vacationing in France. It never bothered me because I only go in for peels, extractions and occasional cortisone shots. What has changed my mind is that over a month ago I went in for a cortisone Injection about a month ago for a cyst by eyebrow by PA Jenny. After a few days I noticed a huge indentation at the Injection site and there was a long thick indentation across my forehead. I was so worried that I went back right away. Marjan the PA saw me and basically shooed me out of the office, said there's nothing going on in my forehead and laughed at me. She told me to put bleaching cream on the site, urged me to buy the creams they recommended and put a peel by the injection site and said it was only hyperpigmentation. The area hadn't healed and the products only irritated the area more. Everything that was done to me was overly aggressive. I've been speaking to PA Jenny while she communicates with Dr Bussel who is vacationing in France and I've spoken to the doctor once. She recommended I put heat pads on my forehead and it's been over a month and my face still looks deformed and there's been no change. I don't want to see a PA I want to see a doctor! And where is she? She is in France until end of September. This is horrible. I haven't left my house for over a month because my face looks so bad. This is the worst experience of my life. I've recommended this office to all my friends and I know that was a big mistake because they don't care. The Dr is never there and she makes you buy her creams. Her PA messed up my face and the follow up has been a nightmare. I urge you all to stay away from this office. Run don't walk. They made my once normal looking face deformed and they don't care at all about it. Also if you want rentinA, they won't prescribe it to you because you have to buy the Dr's cream. I am so glad I found this place on Yelp! Terrific dermatology office. I hadn't been to a dermatologist in a long time partly because I didn't even know that half the things I'm concerned about on my skin can actually be treated! (brown spots, acne scars, age lines...). The reviews all over Yelp and the web are so great that I decided to book an appointment here. I was happy to have gotten one on a Saturday. I have been to Beverly Hills Dermatology Consultants a few times now for different things (it's like shopping! I say "I'd like to fix this, and that...and this..." I JUST LOVE IT!!). On my first visit I was impressed by the cleanliness of their waiting room and inside the office. It's very modern and quite big. The PA who saw me was lovely and professional. She answered my questions and, when I asked, informed me of different treatments I had heard about (like injections and peels). I had a few things done and enjoyed talking to her while she took care of me. I met and was treated by Dr. Bussell on another visit. She is wonderful and I really like her. She is down to Earth, intelligent and very helpful. After the results of my first peel, I wanted to come in for peels all the time! They gave me a bleaching and peeling product (called Sal Hydro) from their line that does the job at home! I was so happy. If you have annoying acne with a mind of its own, you've found your cure! Stop reading reviews and just come on over here. They accept PPO. Though her services out of pocket may not be cheap, her products, given how effective they are, are dirt cheap, so don't sweat it! Anyhow, I have had weirdo acne that has a mind of its own. One day I am clear, the next day, I will break out. I break out on my T zone and chin, combo skin. All I know is that when I am good on her regimen, my acne behaves. Her peels are like miracles... if you feel like tearing off your face, just come here and they will work their magic. After a week, you will be amazed. If you are getting married, Dr. Bussell will make sure you "got the big guns", and take extra strong measures! I know, 'cause I was stressin' and that was probably the worst thing for my face! And yes, I was good to go!!! She is very personal and knows her stuff. She puts me at ease and is very personable. Whenever she is in the office, she always makes sure to drop in on my session. The PA's (Physician Assistant) are the ones who will most likely be in charge of your care, but don't fret because they are well-trained by her and know their stuff. The MA's (medical assistants) are the ones that will be administering your facials... don't fret because they are all very smart and highly capable. Important Reminder Tip*: If you are prescribed spironolactone (aldactone), make sure you don't get pregnant or plan to be because it can cause birth defects. They make sure to tell you, but I just wanted to throw that out there for all you ladies that may be trying to get pregnant and may forget :) Oh, and your visit includes a head to toe assessment, which is where they found a couple moles that they had to take out. I'm in Beverly Hills a lot for work and since she is known in my social circle to be the best on the West Coast, I naturally came to her when I wanted to try Botox for the first time. I had no side effects and her injections got the lines I wanted while leaving me the facial movement she suggested (and I agreed) that I should keep in order to look natural. As I advised people, I went back to see Dr. Bussell after my first visit to tell her about my acne because I trust her. I wanted her to help me with my face too. So when I returned to the office, once again, I found all of the girls to be very nice and friendly. I took a seat and waited for only a few minutes before a nurse took me into an exam room. She told me that I should use a drying mask, plus a moisturizer in case I have sensitive skin too (what I have). After a few days my skin was much better than before ! You won't be meeting with the doctor, instead a PA or other type of practitioner. I haven't tried their other skincare services, that might be a better experience. I have been going to see Dr. Bussell for yeeeeeeeeeears. A few times in the past when my insurance changed and I chose to go to another dermatologist, I always regretted it. I have gone to the "top" dermatologists (both famous and infamous) in this town and always end up going back to Dr. Bussell. You won't find another doctor more caring. Sometimes, the time spent the waiting room is long, but if I amortize that with the time wasted seeing lesser doctors --my favorite being one of the doctors "to the stars" that was so drunk after lunch that he didn't really that he was trying to treat me with blood streaming from his hand-- I still come out ahead. Unfortunately they are only worried about getting your money and not really about helping you. I was there over year ago for some skin issues I was having... a year later and I was still dealing with the same issue... despite having done tons of stuff in their office... chemicals peels, topical medicine (a lot of it from their own line... so again... money focused). I went to another doctor, she gave me ONE thing and in one week the issue has reduced a lot. I had heard that their cosmetic treatment were positive and in preparation for a trip I wanted to get Botox, so I called and I was told it was on sale for 20% off the syringe so I scheduled to go in and once there they tell me that the sale is over and I would have to pay full price unless I wanted to buy two syringes - but according to them I didn't need 2. Bc of their indication I only bought one - which did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING for what I was looking for.... when I talked to them they said I'd have to go back and get another syringe and pay another full price!!! Worth driving into BH for those of us palefaces with older, more sensitive skin! Dr Bussell (pronounced "bewsel," I was told) puts her own label on products that are tried and true. No laser treatments here, but wifey, who is now also a patient, swears that her "Fitzpatrick IV," whatever this means, is not good for laser and can actually turn worse.
