Went in 6 months ago with some mild to moderate complaints, mainly just needed new insoles, and came out with so many more problems than I went in with. In the intake, Dr Letgolts very quickly and confidently came to the conclusion that I had a true leg length difference and stuck a heel lift in my shoe. For context, his methodology is all about getting to the root of issues by resolving underlying compensation patterns and bringing the body into correct alignment. And because one compensation pattern sort of stacks on top of the next, the idea is that when one compensation pattern is resolved, another one is revealed, and so on. So it's meant to be a process with ups and downs on some level and I had a high level of commitment to seeing it through. The thing is, I not only have plenty of issues now that I didn't have at the start, but I also still have almost every problem I did have at the start. His egotism is not as overt as some other doctors, but in this situation, that made it all the more insidious. When his solutions to the broadening scope of problems repetitively didn't help, made something else worse, or made a brand new problem pop up, there was no humility, culpability, or even an admission that anything was off in his treatment plan. Despite me bringing up the leg length assessment many times as a possible cause, his conviction that this was a messy process but one that would eventually pay off, kept me following his lead for much longer than I should have. And in that time, allowed the situation to get even worse and more chaotic. My list of questions and concerns grew as a result, and at one point he had the audacity to suggest that the time spent on them was the reason why we weren't progressing. That was the last appointment we had. I've since had multiple doctors confirm that I do not in fact have a true leg length difference and that the combination of the heel lift and his severe over-correction to my orthotics were the causes of the situation being what it was. Things have slowly started to improve but I have so much further to go now than I would've if I had just never set foot in that office. I had a very negative and traumatic experience at this office a while ago. Upon my first appointment, Dr. Letgolts tried to crack my back (where I had been experiencing pain). I was not expecting this as he calls himself a physical therapist, not a chiropractor. This attempt at cracking my back did not work and sent a very scary sharp pain through my body that made me cry because it was so scary and painful. He then prescribed me inserts for my shoes that were expensive, yet make-shift with tape and such. I wore them for a while after this incident and they did nothing to help me with the body pain I was experiencing. read more

Dr. Letgoltz is the best of the BEST! I have a long history with physical therapy having had my first ACL replacement in 1996 and my second one in 2009. Over the years I've experienced a LOT of different PT's with a variety of backgrounds and capabilities from gifted to practically worthless. I was blessed to have a dear friend who was a gifted PT with his own company where he developed aquatic PT practices that were very effective. He rehabbed me after my first ACL replacement. I felt like he was the 'best of the best'.... until he retired and then referred me to Dr. Letgolts when my hip needed to be replaced earlier this year. Dr L is in a class of his own! I had some pretty good PT in the rehab center after my hip replacement and then at-home PT which was worthless. By the time I saw Dr L I was walking but was experiencing pain and discomfort if I walked for any distance. After just my first visit I felt 100% better and he was the first one to actually evaluate me to figure out mechanically why I wore my hip out in the first place! For 55 years I have suffered from a fractured vertebrae, disc herniations and now 2 slipped vertebrae. In just 3 visits he has gotten me 3/4 ways back to my pre slipped vertebrae condition. He is the only health care practitioner to study my foot, hip and spine situation as being totally interrelated. He is now reshaping my arches with special interim orthotics and has taught me back exercises and leg strengthening exercises that are designed to normalize my anatomical shortcomings. Waited quite sometime before writing this review. Wanted to make sure that I had done some further research and had results to back up my story, as my experience at this clinic was anything but pleasant. First, I was 15 minutes early before they opened ( 9:00am) and was the first patient in line to get in. Almost 35 minutes after their opening (at 9:35am ) I finally got in, which was already odd to me since I like to make a good impression on anyone I meet the first time. Especially when I am going to charge them an arm and a leg for an initial a consultation. 35 minutes later, (I was told on the phone that the session would be between 45 min to an hour) I was literally rushed out as the next patient was ready to come in. I was diagnosed with foot pronation and told to get an insert, which I had initially asked the doctor to avoid at any cost. ( simply didn't think that was the source of my problem- for both personal and research reasons) After having others look at my pain, my diagnosis was that my rotator cuff on the left leg was displayed by the impact of a fall off my bike. Once I was treated based on that diagnosis the progress was beyond amazing. I can only imagine how I would feel today if I took Dr Letgolts advice. I don't assume willfully wrong doing by anyone, that said, after paying $295.00 for my 35 minute initial fee with a wrong diagnosis, I can't find a way to justify not sharing my experience with others. read more

Doctor of physical therapy, engineer, dancer; the perfect marriage of three complementary perspectives allowing the doctor to see his patients in their individual true light and form. I am what is sometimes referred to as a "difficult-to-treat" patient - having suffered from debilitating chronic migraines for many years. I have worked with MDs, acupuncturists, chiropractors, osteopaths, holistic practitioners, massage therapists and energetic healers. A couple of months after having joint replacement surgery I was prescribed physical therapy. I ended up wasting one of my 12 yearly visits at another local physical therapist. I found Dr. Letgolts on my providers website. On my initial visit he spent a half hour talking to me one on one, getting a complete understanding of my history. He also thoroughly reviewed my posture, stance and ability to walk. He does not overbook, so he was not running from room to room tending to other patients...it was truly one on one PT. Dr. Letgolts then went to work on my leg really getting into the muscles and stretching everything. He has been helping me relearn to walk, and train my muscle to start firing again...my glutes have been a problem as my incision from surgery affected my glutes muscles. He also corrected my stance and posture...he created orthodics for my shoes and within a week and a half I am walking normally again. I've only been to Dr. Letgolts once, but that's all it took for me to know I'd found an amazing doctor who could help me. My situation: I hurt my knee a few years ago, did not feel comfortable with my doctor who saw me, and I just allowed it to heal naturally, as he recommended. Now, a few years later, I hurt the same knee, but in a different manner. Running and physical activity are very important to me, so being unable to run, lift weights, row, etc., has been difficult, even for this short period of time. Dr. Letgolts made me feel very comfortable. He allowed me to explain my story, and he listened to me without interrupting. He was thorough in his explanations but not confusing, and he explained to me what was going on with my body. He also had a warm bedside manner. From my experience, it's hard to heal when you feel uncomfortable at the doctor's office, particularly when it's necessary to relax your muscles long enough for the doctor to assess your issues. But because of Dr. Letgolt's kind and professional demeanor, even the first visit was not awkward. Wow. Dr. Letgolts is amazing. I had complained about being "out of balance" with pain in knees, back and shoulders. I went to 4 specialists who did not help. I went to Dr. Letgolts for PT for a shoulder surgery. He said I was a bit early for the surgery PT and I needed to only do isometric exercises. In the meantime, he said that I was out of balance and walking like an old man. He made orthotics in the office and immediately I was more in balance and walking more efficiently. I had been experiencing hip pain for over a year. First only when running but eventually all the time and I was forced to give up running and curtail other activities. I went to my doctor, went to a physical therapist, two stretch therapists and even hired a personal trainer. Nothing worked and eventually I ended up at a UCLA orthopedist. He diagnosed me with hip flexor tendonitis and recommended physical therapy. I had been told about Letgolts by my Pilates instructor so I decided to give him a shot. I had by this point resigned myself to the fact that this was a chronic condition and I'd never run or bike again. Dr Letgoltz is brilliant and insightful. He has a deep background, which you can read about on his website. He also has a mind that is open to new ideas and he listens to the patient. I came to him for a very complex issue that came from being hypermobile. It is very very rare that I find a doctor who understands what extreme hypermobility can do to joints. Dr Letgoltz was great! My ability to walk has greatly improved. Walking. Kind of a big deal. Most doctors have been either dismissive or my condition has bumped up against their limitations. (People whose egos are all tied up in success don't like it when they're stymied, and many have called me names or accused me of faking it for insurance, which is weird becuase very often I was paying out of pocket and had no insurance.) Have you ever noticed that when you're at the edges of some people's expertise, their ability to think logically evaporates? It's as if you're threatening their entire identity. For 15 Years I lived with severely inhibited range of motion in my ankle that eventually also started causing problems with my knee, restricting my activities because of pain and swelling. For over a year I have had trouble walking due to arthritis and hip pain. I had been told by my orthopedist and a consultant that nothing could be done but the pain to walk was unbearable, Dr. Letgolts did an extensive assessment of my pain, walk and arm movement. I have been going to Dr. Letgolts for about 10 years. I was referred to him by a friend and I am very thankful for the referral. Dr. Letgolts is extremely knowledgeable and can figure out what your ailment, injury is merely by watching you walk. He doesn't take x-rays (thankfully), but can tell right away what is wrong and how to fix it. He was the first person to recommend and build orthotics for me which was a lifesaver. I have them in my running and walking shoes. I see Dr. Letgolts only when I have an issue, injury and he always gets to the root of it immediately. I usually have one follow-up visit and that's it! He is not the type of Doctor who tells you to keep coming back in, unless it is vital that you do. All in all, he is a great Doctor, kind, thorough and knowledgeable as is his staff. I have been a very active person all of my life competing in sports at a high level. The many years of hard training along with injuries and several surgeries have taken a major toll on my body to the point where I was seeing chiropractors up to 3 times weekly to help me deal with the pain. Fortunately one of the chiropractors suggested that I see Dr. Letgolts as she felt Letgolts was the best option for me as my chronic neck pain was related to my feet and how I made contact with the ground. I have had a painful lower back issue for the past twenty years and have gone to numerous chiropractors, massage therapists, podiatrists to help me with it. I heard about Dr. Letgolts from a colleague who praised his work with her issues stemming from Fibromyalgia. I too suffer from Fibromyalgia and cervical disease for 25 years of intermittent pain from cervical disk disease. I spent too much time on my stationary bike one evening, woke up with mild lower back pain and went to my usual doctor (MD) who administered trigger point injections of Lidocaine.. When the Lidocaine wore off, I could hardly walk down the stairs from my office to the parking lot.. I had the worst back pain - pain which I never experienced before. I went back to my doctor who gave me a Torridol shot, Rx for Prednisone and pain killers. He said the pain would go away soon. It didn't and only increased in unbearable intensity. So another Torridol shot and no more Prednisone just Advil and pain killers. I had an MRI and herniated lumbar and sacral disks appeared. I knew these were not new results. No sleep, working in pain I was sent to UCLA Comprehensive Spine Care Clinic which was a fiasco - the awful Dr. wrote 3 recommendations on the paper covering the patients' exam table -- PT and meds, epidural, surgery. He referred me to the UCLA PT Clinic upstairs from the Spine Center. This was a joke -- the wait was 3-6 months for an appointment and the kind receptionist told me that with my insurance I could get good private care.. I saw an MD Physiatrist who was much kinder than the brusque doctor at UCLA Spine Center and he spoke of the same options. I was in such desperate pain that I even found a surgeon and made an appointment. Before that appointment with the surgeon ( which I cancelled) I spoke with my colleague and she told me to go see Dr. Letgolts. Thank heavens I did. He is wonderful, professional and inspires confidence. He is all hands on physical therapy and has great knowledge of the mechanics of the human body. After just a couple weeks of treatment my pain subsided. It is almost fully cured now except for some numbness in my toes and side of one calf. I find the treatments and exercises are immensely helpful and Dr. Letgolts has worked miracles for me. I was depressed, couldn't do my normative activities except I needed to work and did so in excruciating pain. I'm back to being myself thanks to Dr. Letgolts. I recommended him unequivocally. This is not a review about the Dr. just his bad business practice/ billing office. I have been to many physical therapists previously and this is by far the worst experience I have had (prior to even meeting the Dr.). I am very fortunate to have excellent insurance and am very familiar with my policy and it's benefits. Deborah in the billing office continues to misquote my benefits even though I have now confirmed TWICE with my provider that they are an "IN network provider" and I have also reconfirmed my benefits with Blue Cross/Blue Shield as the member. Deborah then, also stated "The Dr. doesn't like to chase bills and they pretty much know how much the copay will be." My policy states NO copay at the time of office visit, which is apart of my plan that I pay for, and is something that they also agree to when they sign the contract to be a Blue Cross/Blue Shield provider. I told Deborah that I would be writing this review "she told me not to and that they would have it removed" This could be the best Physical Therapist in the whole world for all I know, but I don't appreciate treated so badly by his billing office. I have done nothing wrong and am only asking them to comply with the terms of insurance that they agreed to as a provider. Lesson learned... Dr.Letgolts saved me from going under the knife. Where all surgeons saw only one way to fix my problem-surgery, he managed to relieve me from 2 years of constant pain using only his hands. It was the first time I went to see a doctor who looked at my body as a whole not just addressing a specific area where the pain was. And explained and showed to me how everything is connected. I came looking for pain relief and not only was he able to accomplish that but also help with my poor posture that I have struggled with all my life, educated me and gave me my life back. I live a very active lifestyle and I can't recommend this man enough. Very grateful that my friend, whom he also saved, send me to him. You're in good hands here. Dr. Letgolts saved my life. I suffered from 20 years of increasingly debilitating muscle-neck-shoulder pain. Everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) that I had tried until finding him either didn't help or worse, made the pain worse by further destabilizing my body. I was getting hopeless, thinking that I'd just have to live with the pain and accept that my spinal degeneration/stenosis/etc. would just get worse over time. In just 6 months, I am PAIN FREE. I am so grateful for his work and his expertise in properly diagnosing ad treating people. He has a holistic understanding of the body and doesn't just see the problem in a piecemeal and isolated way. If anyone is experiencing any type of pain in the body, I highly recommend him. I'm having my third course of physical therapy with Dr Letgolts and have come to rely on his skill in treating my arthritic shoulders and post-polio syndrome in my feet. As other patients have noted, he has a holistic approach to treating the body, giving me increased mobility in my arms and in walking. There is no cure or quick fix for an octogenarian whose problems have been growing over many years. So I appreciate the incremental improvements that allow me get around unaided and should add years to my life. It also helps that Allen has a sense of humor and a deep sense of purpose.
