While planning for our wedding, one of the most stressful things was picking an officiant. We were fearful of ending up with someone who was stuffy, generic, anecdotal, or inappropriate. When we found Marie on Yelp, we were confident she would be none of those things, and so excited for her to be our officiant. Marie did an absolutely amazing job of creating a personalized ceremony for us. She incorporated our humor, awkwardness, and love into the ceremony flawlessly. The planning meeting that we had with her prior was great, because we got to know her a little better before the big day and also loved hearing her ideas for our ceremony. Some additional things I didn't expect but was so pleased to have: Marie gives great information for how to get your marriage license, and also provides information on the difference between a confidential license and a public one. I had no idea this was a thing, so really appreciated the information. She also provides you with the reassurance that if you just need a minute to breathe before your ceremony without the watchful eye of 20 people, she will secure that space for you. Just knowing that was an option helped so much. Last but certainly not least, I couldn't write this review without addressing the energy Marie gives off. Without ever meeting her, I felt like my best friend who I hadn't seen in years had just showed up when she arrived on our wedding day. Unbeknownst to him, about two weeks before my husband officially proposed, I was alone in my studio apartment in downtown San Diego one night when I Googled, "Elope San Diego." I came across a few elopement packages with officiators with websites that seemed stuffy, businesslike, outdated, and cheesy. I wanted love in 2016. I wanted the atmosphere on our wedding day to be framed in the present. I wanted a realness and authenticity. I wanted an officiator that would represent-and a photographer that would capture-love in all it's colors, angles, sides, and depths. I wanted judgement free. I wanted modern fairytale with a backbone of truth to catch me when the honeymoon set beneath the seawall. And I found everything and more in Minister Marie and Keri Rico Photography. I got married barefoot on the beach. I don't like fuss. I like simplicity big picture wise so I can spend my energy and time living in moments our society celebrates like the joining of two lives. We wed on 1,000 Steps Beach in Laguna Beach all thanks to Minister Marie! All I told her is that I wanted to get married in Laguna and I had no idea where. She recommended a couple of spots and from a quick Google search, I knew this was our place. I kid you not, I feel like I planned my wedding in 10 minutes because Minister Marie is so knowledgeable, approachable, and efficient. Keri Rico Photography climbed the 232 steps down to the beach (and even back up and down again) to get a perfect first look shot of my husband and I reading notes we wrote for each other beforehand. We had talked on the phone and texted about shots I wanted to ensure we got and she made sure to capture them all and come prepared with ideas that we could have never thought up on our own. She gave us more than double the amount of shots we are guaranteed with this package. My sister-in-law purchased the additional $150 video option and we love it to pieces. It is mainly a collection of our best shots of the day paired with music and a short live-action glimpse of our actual ceremony. I cannot watch it without crying. These photographs make me feel like a mermaid fairytale princess. I look forward to being 82 with my husband and watching our souls move in their younger vessels. Such an amazing experience! The building is so adorable! A slightly remodeled hotel from the 1900's gave it such a unique look! My husband and I didn't want a big ceremony. This is long overdue, but still necessary! Minister Marie officiated my wedding back in August 2013. She was nothing short of great. My husband is not a particularly religious person despite coming from a somewhat religious background, and Minister Marie respected that, fitting our personalities into the ceremony. My husband and I needed an officiate at the last minute I order for our destination wedding to be valid and "real". Minister Marie was very quick in responding to our request.
