The proprietors are wonderful people who do their best to make sure your stay is exactly what your looking for. The accommodations in the cabins are rustic, but not lacking. All the pots, pans, and dishes you could ask for, with full kitchens and baths. Clean sheets and towels on the beds and in the bathrooms. There is a playground with a volleyball net as well. There are also lots of board games in the cabins themselves. At night every cabin has an outside fire pit perfect for a fire. If your into fishing there are many great rivers and lakes up here with world class fishing. I watched Joe, the proprietor fish as he does apparently every night and it was more worthwhile than the hours of videos on youtube i had watched before on how to do it. I came up here with the men in my family to have a relaxing time and we certainly did. We hope to make this a yearly trip, it was truly that great. Good for couples, groups, families, weddings (their was a wedding here while we were here) and individuals.

Charles Mears State Park is a park along Lake Michigan in Pentwater. Donated by the daughter of a…read morelumber baron in the early 20th century, it's now a popular camping site perfect for RVs and even tent campers. Here's why to go: 1) Price: Most people have annual passes for $30 or so making it pretty affordable. (It's $9 a day for out-of-state cars to park,) Our camo site was $40 a night and it fit our two tents for four adults and three kids. 2) Space: With all the RVs everywhere it does get crowded, but each camping space is spacious and we didn't feel on top of others. 3) Amenities: The bathrooms were near our site with individual showers. Unlike other camp grounds, the bathrooms are kept very clean. They never smelled and were never dirty. Kudos to the cleaning team for keeping them spotless despite a full camp site. Each camp site comes with a fire pit. 4) Beach: It's a short walk from the camp site with several playgrounds for kids and dunes with benches and places to hang up a hammock. On the beach is a shop with food, fire wood ($6 per fire wood pile) and ice cream. 5) Location: It's a very short walk to the main street of Pentwater with a mini golf course, shops and even coffee shops!

Stearns Beach Park is such a nice, clean, accessible beach, and there's so much to do around it…read morethat it makes for a really easy beach day. There's a paved path that takes you down pretty close to the water, with plenty of places to sit along the way, which makes the beach really accessible for just about everyone. You can also walk out onto the lighthouse, which is a fun little addition to the beach. We didn't spend quite as much time here on this trip because we were exploring some of the other areas around Ludington, but we've enjoyed coming here. I wouldn't say this is the most beautiful or dramatic beach we've been to. It's a big, open stretch of beach without a ton of natural scenery. But it definitely makes up for that with the views and everything around it. You have the harbor right next to you, and the SS Badger regularly passes by, which is really cool to watch. The water itself is beautiful, and there's something fun about being able to sit on the beach and watch the boats coming and going. Another huge plus is the location. You can easily walk into the cute little beach town for food, drinks, and shops, and there's a skate park and mini golf nearby too. You really don't have to move your car once you get here. Overall, it's a clean, convenient, family-friendly beach with great accessibility and plenty to do nearby. It may not have the dramatic scenery of some of Michigan's other beaches, but the location and atmosphere make it absolutely worth visiting when you're in Ludington!

Just make sure you go during staffed hours to get the card (they don't have staffed hours on Sunday, so plan ahead if you need to). Great gym. They have two sets of heavy dumbbells, multiple squat racks, a deadlift station, and lots of plate loaded and cable machines. They even have a decline plate loaded press, which is a rarity these days, even in expensive health clubs. They have all of the cardio equipment you need. The woman who got me my pass was great, and was constantly on the move working. If you're in town and need a weight lifters workout, this will be a great place for you.
