As exciting as it was we felt completely safe at all times! He had us rotate around so whoever wanted a turn in front could try it out! My husband & I did and it was a blast!! River rafting was amazing and the highlight of our trip! The whole operation was very organized, timely, knowledgeable, friendly, and engaging! We loved our guide, Ben! He was very thorough with his safety instructions and made everyone feel at ease. He provided a lot of interesting information about the river and pointed out two bald eagles and two osprey on the river. The rapids were very fun and Ben guided our boat perfectly through the rapids. From the reservation, to checking in, to the drive there and back everything was run so smoothly and professionally. While planning our family trip to Jackson, WY, I came across Lewis and Clark through Google. When I called, I had the pleasure of speaking with Madeleine--she was incredibly kind and accommodating. I'm very detail-oriented and tend to ask a lot of questions to make sure everything is covered, and she went above and beyond. Not only did she share all the details about their expeditions, but she also gave helpful recommendations for the area. We ended up booking two expeditions: the Shared Scenic Float and the Rafting trip. Both were fantastic. Grace guided our Float and Ben led the Rafting--each brought such skill and warmth to the experience. Check-in was smooth, the staff was friendly and welcoming--just what you'd hope for from a family-owned business. Prices are also very reasonable. Just a quick note: don't forget to tip your guides--they truly deserve it. Pro tip: If you're looking for a more intense rafting experience, go in late May or June when the water levels are higher. read more

Edited to address the company's response to my negative review: My review clearly reflects frustration over this company's terrible policy for late arrivals. They only offer a FIVE MINUTE window and then REFUSE TO REBOOK YOU. So you just lose your money... if you're 5 minutes late... when presumably traveling a long distance for this excursion. I've never worked with a company that refuses to rebook a late arrival. 5 minutes or you lose hundreds of dollars is wild and if I had read the fine print, I wouldn't have booked with them. But after all, they compared themselves to a cheap airline, so losing your money to the fine print is consistent with how they operate. I also want to mention that the manager laughed at me when I expressed my frustration over losing my money. So if they sound professional in their response, they absolutely are not in person. Original review below. The worst excursion I have ever experienced. There are many other companies offering this experience in Jackson. Go with ANYONE else or be prepared to lose your money. We took a wrong turn in our RV which is difficult to maneuver around narrow city roads. Ended up in traffic coming from Jackson Hole (we had no way of anticipating). We showed up 15 minutes late and were totally willing to be switched to a later trip (which they confirmed had openings at the time), but they REFUSED to rebook us. We even offered other days we were available during our trip, and they offered nothing. They just took our $500 and provided NO SERVICE. They even compared themselves to a cheap airline. What a joke. They constantly advertise as a "small, family owned business," presumably to demonstrate flexibility and understanding family circumstances. But when it matters, they adopt the line of a cheap "airline." This hypocrisy honestly infuriates me. Our kids spent six hours in the heat wandering around Jackson with nothing to do, in the hope that we could make another trip on "standby." They didn't even accommodate that. So much for a "family" business. They should be ashamed that they're willing to take money without providing a service. UNACCEPTABLE. read more

We didn't go prepared for a day on the river, but this company was excellent at making it work and getting us outfitted. They helped with every detail. What an amazing adventure. We got the perfect day in perfect weather today for Mother's Day. Had a wonderful tour guide named Luke and a great bus driver named Lee. This was my first time rafting. The trip was a combination of level 1, 2 and 3 rapids. our guide made it very interesting and was able to keep us excited and safe. The person helping us find the right size wetsuit was very nice too. Wear a wetsuit at this time of the year because it's cold. It makes it much more enjoyable. The trip a small short bus ride to the edge of the water an 8 mile trip down the river and where you get picked up by the same bus driver and back to your starting point read more

Oh gosh!! It doesn't get more fun than this. We went with a group of 12 of our friends. Best experience ever. Riley was our tour guide and he did not disappoint. We had a seasoned rafter among us and he even said that was the best experience he had. Riley was very knowledgeable and a total blast. He was laid back with a great personality. We are a very relaxed group and I think Riley picked up that vibe. He was cracking jokes and playing along with us. We were all cracking up and smiles from ear to ear. We even had some kids that jumped in to swim a bit while we floated. The trip seemed to go by too fast and were all bummed when it was over. If you are thinking about doing this trip, don't hesitate. My husband and I did the small boat tour first thing in the morning with Luke on Aug 8. We ended up renting wetsuits and I'm glad we did. It's chilly first thing in the morning. Neither of us had been white water rafting since we were kids, but we felt completely safe and Luke was super knowledgable and funny. We really enjoyed conversations with him, learning about the area, and seeing lots of different bald eagles (and a beaver!). The river is stunning. I wanted to go again when the rafting trip was over. I did a bunch of research before booking Lewis & Clark. I would 10/10 recommend them over the larger companies. You get to participate more and it's a much more intimate settings. You're not a cog in a machine. These guides are highly trained and everyone is really friendly. Unmatched views, an amazing experience but most importantly, great people at Lewis & Clark River Expeditions. Our captain / tour guide / engine Bailey was superb! He pointed out wildlife (we saw some bald eagles, osprey, and of course wood snakes!), gave us a rundown of some of the history and really made the experience unforgetable. A far cry from the monotone scripted tours, Bailey was knowledgable and followed the flow of conversation just like how he expertly followed the currents. He also knew when to give us a chance to soak in the sights, leaving room to ponder existential questions. AMAZING EXPERIENCE AND COMPANY I'm so glad I did a little research before deciding on Lewis & Clark. They clearly hire on the most amazing guides that make sure the fun matches the safety! We had Benjamin as our guide and Carrie as our bus driver. From start to finish it was awesome!!! Thanks guys for a trip to remember! Tip- you can bring things to leave safely on the bus. I'd recommend bringing a change of dry clothes if the sun isn't shining. Also- no need to be concerned with taking photos on your rafting journey; they have pro photographers at one of the main rapids and then post them for you to download later. Lewis and Clark River Expeditions, one of the last mom and pop river rafting companies. This was a great experience. I recommend 1000%. For many reasons: 1. Being a mom and pop you can tell they value their employees. They have had the same crew for years. Unlike the competitors, being large chain companies, they don't care and end up hiring less experienced guides. 2. The guides are experienced and knowledgeable. Our guide, Luke, was so experienced and knowledgeable about the water and how rapids work and how to keep us safe while rafting them. He is certified water rescue first responder. His confidence and calm demeanor made me feel safe. I am usually a pretty anxious person and when I'm anxious I cannot enjoy an activity, he is the reason this was such a great and memorable experience. 3. The trip was so fun! It was a good mix of relaxing and adventurous rapids and even if the weather and water didn't deal us a good hand ( because these are things Lewis and Clark cannot control) our guide made it fun and enjoyable! 4. They had a great transport set up. They allowed us to drive separate from the bus down to the parking area but still drove us back to our car after. I did see complaints about the walk back from the boat dock; however, this is a boat dock all the rafting companies use not just Lewis and Clark, so it's gonna be hard to avoid. I thought it was nice little hike and gave you some pretty views. 5. Last but not least the owner has a beautiful dog named Arlo at the shop that is a therapy dog to help calm guest and kids before the trip! I could go on and on but I strongly recommend this company, let's support local and great quality guides! read more
