There's a wicked cool full-service Cottonwood & Shipwreck Pub & Casino next door with weekend entertainment. Open seven days a week with a restaurant and convenience store. From the huge outdoor Tiki Bar, I was able to admire the Lewis & Clark Marina located directly across the street. There moored are hundreds of beautiful sailboats and various watercraft bobbing and swaying in the waters of the Lewis and Clark Lake fed by the Missouri River. All this while sipping my favorite cool one and listening to some awesome outdoor speakers and the banter and laughter of vacationers and guests. My room was brand new 2012, sparklin' clean and pet friendly. Gotta mention the microwave, coffee pot, fridge, flat screen TV and free WiFi, 2 beds with cushy linens and pillows and a private bath. Lots of close parkin' and it's walkin' distance from other amenities too! The hotel & pub are a few mere feet from the 1200 plus acre Lewis & Clark Recreation Area. I should've known we'd have problems based on the call I made to make a reservation, but I had…read morepractically no other choice because I waited too long to find a place for my family to stay. When making my reservation, the teenager didn't really know what to do and almost hung up before I could give him my name. We reserved the deluxe suite because we needed three beds. When we arrived, we were amazed to find that our suite was in the basement. Even worse, the door to our room was merely an interior door with lock, not secure at all! We were more surprised to find that our "suite" was merely one average-sized room with a kitchenette. The furnishings were beat up, but the room seemed clean and the a/c worked. We needed the a/c always running to keep the humidity down in this basement room. They advertise two queen beds, but there were two full beds with thin mattresses. The uncomfortable sofa bed had only a fitted sheet and no pillow. I went looking for someone related to the motel and was scolded for not asking for help at the counter of the mini-mart (beer mart/pizza joint). The woman continued to be unhelpful by telling me we had no need for the sofa bed since four people could sleep in the two queen beds. By this point, I was angry and argued back that they were full beds and that we need the rest of the bedding for the sofa bed as well as more towels. While we were at dinner, we got two more towels, a second fitted sheet, and two pillows; no flat sheet and no blanket. We stayed for three nights and got no service to our room. We needed to ask for more soap, shampoo, and conditioner. On the second night, the toilet started to leak and leaked when our neighbor flushed. The basement laundry flooded and nearly reached our room. Their web site says "the best Yankton has to offer." At the price they're asking, I expected a true two-room suite with two queen beds on one room and the sofa bed and kitchenette in another room since they claim "pamper yourself in the comfort and charm of some of South Dakota's most pleasant hotel lodging accommodations." I think not!

From check-in, to breakfast staff to guy fixing something in the lobby - everyone was in a good mood and not so focused on their job that they could not say hello. It was rather amazing. They have been well-trained to follow Marriott policy when greeting Bonvoy members, which I highly appreciate. The room is also brand new, this room containing 2 TV sets and an extended couch. Parking is very plentiful here, and the fitness center is awesome, containing kettlebells and stability balls along with traditional dumbells and cardio equipment attached with TV monitors. The pool is small but it's clean and pristine. This is a great place to stay if you are in the Yankton vicinity.

Time for my yearly review of L&CR. We stayed here twice this year and in the same cabin to boot. We…read morelike that it fits the whole family, has a full size refridgerator and stove/oven. The rooms are dated and the decor is very rustic, it doesn't seem like over the last three years they've made many updates, but it hasn't had gone too down hill. I recommend only reserving a lake view, because it not much to look at with the court yard. There are tons of amenities for larger family groups like basketball, volleyball courts, play ground, pool, fire pits, pavillions, etc. The coffee and donuts they bring in are a hit with the kids. We really enjoy the walking path and of course the views of the lake. It is on the steeper side, if you are staying during peak season, it's about $500 a night which is pricey for what you're getting. Then in the fall it drops to about $260 a night, which again, is for a 3bd cabin, is not bad if you split it. For the price, I would expect a little more. We've stayed here overall 5 times and can't find another spot like it that offers all you get. I do encourage folks to stay here at least once.

Could not enjoy the camp fire due to loud music and partying. Took the kids to the playground next morning and there were red solo cups everywhere from drinking the night before. What a joke! WILL NOT be back! BTW- Floors in the cabin were FILTHY and hadn't been swept or mopped! DISGUSTING!!
