Although there are many bodies of water as you ride across, there are no waterfalls as the name might suggest. Midway there is a nice cross breeze as it cuts between a lake. Today there was a horde of teenagers walking to the lake and was oblivious to anyone else around them. Hopefully, this is not a regular occurrence as it was difficult to navigate around them.

The trail is a beautifully paved 10.4 mile pathway linking the west side of the City of Jackson with the picturesque Village of Concord, Michigan with its many Victorian homes. The trail was once an old Michigan Central Railroad route and was converted to a Rails-to-Trails recreation area in 2007. The trail runs through rural countryside and beautifully shaded woodlands with only a handful of road crossings. The trail's name reflects the area's natural beauty and the region's native Potawatomi Indian tribe..."The land of Falling Waters". The Jackson trailhead at Weatherwax Drive and Park Road provides plenty of secure parking as does the trailhead ten miles to the west in Concord. Today we rode the full 21 miles out and back in beautiful Michigan summer weather before rewarding ourselves with Orange Creamsicle Milkshakes at Arby's on the way out of town....definitely a 5-star biking experience all the way.

Of all the parks I experienced during the last weeks in Kalamazoo, Milham Park was my favorite. At…read more49 acres, it is one of the larger parks and it is bisected by Portage Creek. This means that there are three bridges over the creek and they're beyond lovely. Picnic tables and a pavilion (though it needs some sweeping) that has electricity and water fountains and a playground nearby. There are other playgrounds in the park, connected by walking trails. The bridge nearest the entry and parking lot on East Kilgore was my favorite. A paved path from the parking lot, through the pavilion and over the bridge means that this beauty is also available for folks who are mobility challenged. There is a second entrance at Milham Park Road with another bridge and from there, a view of the neighboring golf course. Love, love, love Milham Park. Well done, Kalamazoo. I used to love climbing the big pines along the water's edge, all the way to the top, back when I was a young adventure-lover. I'm an old adventure-lover now and I weigh more, so it's been a long time since I've done that. There's plenty of space to walk around here along lots of little streams, there's a small but pretty dam, lots of picnic spots. Milham Park is about equidistant from my house and my husband's work so we meet up there for lunch pretty regularly and watch kids feed the birds. Please be aware of what is and isn't safe for birds to eat and do not bring them bread! There's lots of covered picnic areas and BBQ stations, so it would be a great spot for a work or family get-together, a nice playground area for kids. On my last visit a hula hooper was doing all sorts of awesome tricks and we had the best time watching her. It's kind of the bee's knees, actually.

Each had its merits, but the group vote for the favorite was the playground across from the volleyball and basketball courts. Some of the playgrounds had retro equipment, which we liked, but the seats were very low and sometimes squeaky. The climbers and bouncers were a hit and the young ones raced to be the first to try them. We even awarded special stickers to anyone in our group who visited all six playgrounds. Finding the geocache and hiking the trails, playing disc golf, doing archery---it was all a great time!

The Tobaggan run definitely makes them stand out from other Indiana state parks as one of the more winter-friendly destinations. It was certainly hopping during our chilly January visit. Given the park's popularity, I was surprised at how much TLC the inn could use. The nature center is fairly simple but worth a visit. They have a trail that runs out the back door and easy parking. You'll also find Nordic skiing trails, homes along the lake and a simple restaurant at the inn. The toboggan run was a hit with our four year old. I cheered overhead with our two year old and I have to say that watching is quite enjoyable as well

This is a great place to bring the kids / the dog!…read more There is a picnic pavilion that can be used by two small parties at the same time. I have rented it once before for a family reunion. Talk to the Saline Rec Center if you wish to rent the pavilion. There is a kiddie playground. The sign says "no dogs" but we decided that the rule was because someone didn't clean up after their dog. While nobody else was there, we used the playground equipment for a little informal agility training. Don't tell anyone! There is a dog park with a fence. This is the only place in the park where you are allowed to have your dog off a leash. One side of the park is the Saline River, so if your dog is a major swimmer, s/he might escape the fence by swimming into the river. This is a really huge park. Lots of room to walk and run. The annual Celtic festival is held here.
