I had such time camping here at liberty glen. The people that drive around to bring you firewood are super friendly and nice. They gave the kids glow sticks for free. The site had a beautiful view and there are showers close by. When we went people ruined the bathrooms and we had to go a little further for a shower. No biggie. We went to the lake and borrowed my friends boat. The water was warm and clean. You can rent a boat if you dont have one which is awesome. I really enjoyed my stay. read more

Not sure why people bad mouth this camp ground? It's beautiful country and everyone working there is positive and very helpful! If you have a problem there it's probably something your doing! I hunt and fish there quite often, it's home away from home! I pull my trailer up there, have stayed in the cabin and camp at the boat in sites, all are amazing every time! LIBERTY GLEN CAMPGROUND 13005 Rockpile Road Geyserville, CA 95441 We just camped there for Labor Day weekend. We found out only by word of mouth that there is no running water there for the rest of the season. A water pump broke. A woman on the phone told me it would cost $60,000-$70,000 to fix, so it will not be fixed this season. If not fixed by the next time I might consider camping there (next year or beyond), it is an absolute deal-breaker for me for these reasons: ~No one with a reservation was notified that there was no water. We were lucky to find out, so we carried in not only drinking and cooking water, but hand-washing water and lots of baby wipes. I also opted for paper goods, which I dislike (more cost, and throwing more into the landfill), but needed to minimize any dish washing. We were lucky to find out ahead of time by a note that a friend noticed somewhere on the website. They should notify every person with a reservation. They have our contact information. It was irresponsible. ~I did not see any spigots for water at the campsites, even though there was no running water. I'm not sure where one had to go for it when it was working. Perhaps the toilet/shower buildings? Water is heavy. I would not want to have to carry it that far, though I may have just missed seeing individual spigots. Not obvious. ~The bathrooms were shut tight, with three Port-o-Potties behind the buildings. I have no problem using Port-o-Potties. They were fine on Friday night. By only Saturday night, they were out of toilet paper, seat covers, and they stunk. They did not come empty them until Monday at noon when everyone had left. They were so full, I will not go into the (many) details of how disgusting this was. They need to be emptied in the MIDDLE of a busy weekend! (That would probably be every weekend in the Summer.) Once per week is just not sufficient. ~There were no trash cans at the campsites. Okay, so we had to walk it over to large dumpsters near the (closed) toilet/shower buildings. Again, it was insufficient for the full campground. On Monday by checkout, every dumpster had at least another third of garbage piled up next to it. There also were no recycle bins. Lots of recyclables were thrown out. So those are the real deal-breakers for me, and here are a few other things to know: ~It is HOT (Labor Day weekend). Many sites have very little shade. It is very dry. Bring shade and water! ~There are many burrs and Foxtails. Dogs are welcome. If you have the longer-haired kind, trim the feet as much as possible. We spent lots of time picking burrs out of his feet. I was told by the person on the phone that ticks are very prevalent, so keep your dog out of the brush, and make sure to be updated on tick medicine. ~The bees are heavy. One reviewer said they do not sting. We had at least 3 stings in our group. (My daughter still does not know if she got stung on the foot by stepping on one, so that would be #4). Bring several traps to hang around the campsite and bring to the beach. If you have a screened-in shade tent, use that for your food prep and eating. The bees are very attracted to your food. At the beach, some folks stood in the water to eat their lunch to avoid the bees. ~You make a reservation for either a single, double, or group site, but you do not get to pick your site until you arrive. Our group of several families shared our reservation numbers with each other beforehand, so the first family to arrive was able to get sites next to each other. The sites seemed to really vary in size. Ours were quite large, but I noticed others where there was little choice of where to pitch just one tent. THE PROS: Very pretty, as long as you like the California Summer brown, dry, with dots of Evergreen trees. Sonoma Lake is beautiful, and a lovely temperature. Refreshing, but not cold. Swimming was a 10 minute drive down the hill and across the bridge to a Marina where you have to pay $10 for parking. On the Sunday of Labor Day weekend, it was overcrowded, meaning they were still allowing people in while there were no parking spaces left. There is a little store at the Marina selling staples, ice cream, ice, etc., and bathrooms with real flushing toilets. We rented a boat and had a very fun time with that, taking turns riding on the inner tube behind the boat. The beach has no sand. It is dirt, rocks, burrs, sticks. Bring your sandals right up to the water's edge when you go swimming! We DID have a wonderful time, but I will not be back if the water is not fixed! read more

One of the biggest kept secrets in Sonoma county is the fish hatchery behind the visitors center at Lake Sonoma. They have lots of steelhead spawning from around Jan - Mar, I mean big fish and lots of them. You can almost touch them. The folks (quite a variety) working or volunteering at the center are very helpful and most of the time they know how to put a genuine smile on your face. Park and lake are beautiful. Check this place out if you are in the area. read more

The campground hosts and park rangers are very informative and resourceful. Albeit a large campground with three separate loops, the general atmosphere is quite and accommodating. The campsite sizes are very different in the amount of parking, campsite area, amount of shade or sun, and access to water. The sites in Loop A and B are the largest and best shaded, while Loop C has better views with space for cars and tents. The use of a yellow jacket trap is a very good idea in all the loops. The gate is locked frequently with a code that changes every week, and mobile data service ends just a few hundred yards above the campground entrance. The night sky has amazing views of the stars and milky way is very prominent as are satellites and meteorites. I would definitely return there soon, as well as the day time activities on the Russian River and Yorty Creek beach on the other side of the lake. The fishery museum run by the park service is just below the dam on the way there is well worth an hour visit, and the lake marina which I will check out next time is half-way to the campground. read more

Reserved a boat last week, for a Tuesday. Reservations were super easy, phoned in, left a credit card deposit and the Marina Employee was very helpful. I would suggest going online first to see the boats and info before making reservation. When we got to the Lake, the boat we had reserved wouldn't start. It was a double decker patio boat and there was not another in the fleet. I was a little worried because a few reviews on Yelp stated the Marina Staff was rude. We had come from out of town and the kids were really looking forward to boating. We ended up on a 10 person Patio boat which was $20 less per hour. We were disappointed but, the young gal and Jacob really tried all they could to get us out onto the water as quickly as they could. They provided life jackets for everybody and fitted the children with theirs. They also gave good tips on where to fish, swim and pointed out areas of the Lake that were really low. Here's why I gave 4 stars: boats do NOT have sound systems and the entire fleet is kind of run down. While the Marina Staff went over the rules with us, they were very specific about liability & damage. They explained the costs we would incur if something were broken. Even down to the flag; $8 to replace it. We checked the boat for existing damage and found all but one seat was broken. You had to open them to actually see the damage and they were functional. Made me wonder why they hadn't been repaired? I am certain somebody was charged for the damage. I would advise you to Inspect everything, just to be safe. We had no trouble. Upon return, they gas you up and inspect the propeller in great detail. Again, no problems. Turned out to be a great trip out to the Lake and the Staff was great. Looking forward to next year. read more

The lake is wonderful. Liberty Glen Campground, however, was less than wonderful this year. Apparently last August!!! a plumbing/water problem shut down all water at campground; no showers or faucets or flush toilets and no prior notification that it is a DRY camp and must bring your own water, so be prepared if you go. We are avid campers and DID bring water. It's particularly inconvenient in hot summer months, especially with kids. There is no discount for the inconvenience of dirty smelly port-a-potties that are full, and have no toilet paper, and no camp water is provided. Most spots have little or no shade so bring your shade items. The pay-for-two nights rule on Saturday and Sunday is ridiculous unless you can stay Sunday night! Big money maker for them because we saw MANY check out Monday tags and everyone left on Sunday!! You have to book online, no money back if you leave early. You buy wood for campfires and if you leave it behind, it's picked up and "sold again"? another potential money maker. So why isn't plumbing repaired, one might ask. That being said, views are spectacular and it's a dry, gorgeous California terrain!! read more

Review of Liberty Glen Campground - *WARNING* - the vibe has changed there... If you are looking for peace, wait until the offseason. This campground is no longer a secret/ on a first-come-first-serve basis. It requires reservations which the hosts indicated has 'put it on the map.' On Friday night there were tons of HUGE groups filling up the campground. There were probably 20 people including 8-10 young children that moved into the double site next to us. There were so many people they had to put some tents practically up against ours. Between their loud diesel truck engines, adults yelling to each other, kids screaming/ throwing temper tantrums at bedtime, and the kids making all kinds of noise at 6 AM (including random harmonica notes) we packed up early and left. Hardly my idea of a peaceful getaway in nature. I will never camp there in the summer again. In prior years I spent lovely Labor Day weekends there, with many campsites remaining empty. If you have a loud group and undisciplined children this may be your spot! read more

We camped here on Labor Day weekend. This place is so popular that campsites are hard to find on a holiday weekend. We found one site in the Thumb campground. This campground is situated away from all the noise as it's on the farthest end of a no wake zone. Be sure to follow the map they give you at the check-in. It's so hidden in a corner that we almost turned away thinking we were at the end. Just go all the way in to the finger of the lake shown on the map and turn right. All campsites here are close to the water and are set very nicely. The views in the early morning as well as at night when you could see the reflections of every campsite's campfire in the lake were great. Since the water levels were still low this year; we couldn't swim right by the campsite as there was too much under water vegetation there. We took the boat about 500 feet away and tied to a tree and swam there; kids had a ton of fun swimming with a life vest of course. Take lots of water and a good propane lantern and you will be fine. This was my wife's first time camping without an electric/water hookup but all her worries vanished when the propane lantern lit up at night. Remember there is no cell phone reception here; but you can get a reception if you boat out for 15 mins or so. This campground is almost 30 minutes boat ride from the public boat launch. The parking at the public boat launch is patrolled by the park rangers at night so we were comfortable parking our SUV and boat trailer there for 2 nights; read more

Awesome! It was only 20 min from Healdsburg. We went for a morning hike and loved it! We saw wild boards and deer!

Love this place but the website sucks. Always need to call ahead for prices. Their websites needs price listing and list for everything the Marina offers. It's pain in the ass to call for pricing and see what they have available. Little expensive but worth for a full day which means you have to get there super early and stay all day. The Marina should consider doing the specials every now and then. read more

We had a good experience in the area. we camped at Liberty Glen Campground. The staff was polite, the campsite was clean, the bathrooms were also clean. The views were great. A few things we stayed in campsite 76- we had a bit of a yellow jacket problem we had to deal with. They cleaned the bathrooms sunday morning around 8am, not ideal for folks getting up. The biggest problem I had was with the reservation website. I tried to get a site a few weeks in advanced and all they had were double sites, so I booked it. The weekend we were there, there were roughly 40% empty campsites. They don't offer refunds, so I'm guess there is a disconnect between the website and the actual reservations. next time I'll call to see what is available. We also rented a boat at the Marina, it was a lot of fun. We didn't get the newest boat in the fleet but it was great for tubing. We would definitely take that trip again, and camp at Liberty Glen. read more

Liberty Glen Campground. Just went camping there with family. It is a primitive campground. We were in site 3 in loop A. One fire ring, a picnic table and lots of room for tents. We could comfortably space out 3 tents in the spot. This is one of the flatter spots because I noticed a lot of them are on slopes. I recommend you RV camp here if you go. It isn't close to the water either so be prepared for a drive somewhere. We brought our two year old and it was too hot for him out there. Ended up having to take him back home for fear of heat stroke. The campground hosts are not the friendliest. Very strict. A plus side though is if you're looking to be away from people, nobody camps here. There were three other campers there on a "busy" weekend. Had a hard time eating food because the amount of wasps was ridiculous. Once you get down to the lake the water is low and murky as well. We didn't have a spigot in our spot either but the walk to the bathroom is short. There are showers but I would hardly call that a shower. I'm not coming back to camp here. read more

This review is for Rustlers campsite #4 (RS04). This is a great site and close for those who are kayaking into their campsite (like we did). With afternoon headwinds and hauling all our stuff behind us in an inflatable raft, we made it to our site in about 40 minutes. We kayaked from the Yorty Creek ramp in Cloverdale. The campsites (Rustlers 4, 5, 6, 7) are close together and fortunately for us, the rest of the sites were not booked. If you are looking for a quiet site, then this might not be for you if all the sites are booked. The campsite is pretty basic and has a picnic table, fire pit with grill, some flat space for tents (we fit 4 next to each other) and a trash can. There are 2 outhouses up the hill for all the campsites with toilet seat covers and toilet paper (although we ran out, so I would bring some TP with you just in case). One outhouse has no door and that was the better one because the open air. Overall a great experience for our group and would book again! read more

The sites are big, and that is a huge bonus compared to most places.  Most sites have at least one shady spot.  The location is fantastic with quick access to the lake and hiking, and the views are great.  The camp hosts were very kind and helpful.  Overall, it was a great experience.  There were several downfalls - one of which was lots of wasps/bees.  We brought a screen room and were fine with it.  The showers were steaming hot - might work in winter, but I almost couldn't stand under them without being scalded.  They mist you, so go easy on the shampoo or you will be there for 20 minutes (which defeats the purpose of the low flow shower head in the first place). They often were out of toilet paper, but we brought in extra.  For some reason later in the evening something would bubble up near the bathrooms that smelled like sewage. This happened each night...kind of odd. There doesn't seem to be much of a patrol in the evenings and select campsites were very noisy until almost 2 in the morning each night.  Earplugs solve this issue.  Overall, it is a beautiful site with lots of things to do closeby (wine tasting, hiking, swimming, boating).  We would absolutely return - with earplugs, a screen room and toilet paper in tow. read more
