My husband and I were on a road trip from Cleveland (we'd just seen a Maroon 5 concert) on our way home to West Virginia when we stumbled upon the Goodwill Outlet in Canton, Ohio. I'm so glad we did--it was such a fun experience! Walking into the outlet as total blue-bin newbies, we had no idea how to "shop." Clothes aren't sorted by size or color, there are no racks or signs, just bins filled with everything from kids' clothes and jackets to blankets, toys, pots and pans, electronics, and shoes--all completely mixed together. Not even five minutes into checking my first bin, an announcement came over the speaker: "Bins are being rotated. Please stand by the cashier line. No shopping while bins are being switched out!" We watched as employees rolled bins into a back room with swinging doors while a fresh batch of bins was rolled out. Once the rotation was complete, the announcer gave the signal: "You may shop now." And chaos ensued. Shoppers of all ages--men, women, even college students--raced to the new bins. My husband and I just stood there soaking in the frenzy. There were older guys checking toys and scanning SKUs online, college kids digging through sweaters and long-sleeve shirts, and just a lot of excited energy all around. The bins rotate every 30 minutes, so if you don't find anything you like, just wait for the next round. The best part? Items aren't individually priced--you pay by weight. At $1.89 per pound, we walked out with a fantastic haul for just $16: a fun ugly Christmas sweater, two branded jackets, a handful of T-shirts, and three long-sleeve shirts. The Goodwill Outlet is definitely worth a stop for an hour or two. Next time, I'll bring gloves and a few eco bags!

The staff is friendly, prompt, and seem to really enjoy what they do. The customer walks through sliding glass doors and sees an array of sorted furniture from chairs to coffee tables to couches & dressers. You will also find books, kitchenware, home restoration tools, new paints and various furnishings to bring your home or organization back to life. When the customer finds piece of furniture they like, simply bring the tag attached to the piece to the front counter for a quick & easy checkout experience. The friendly worker will give you two copies of the hols slip: one to place on the piece of furniture and the other to take with you to the pick up area. To get to the pick up area, drive your vehicle around to the back side of the building where friendly staff will assist in loading your new to you furniture into your vehicle.

Very little wood, and kind of on the pricey side anyhow. There is an entire huge room filled with random crap on shelves that you must sort through. It kind of reminds me of Bin Treasures, if Bin Treasures only sold electric drills without battery packs. There's .. a lot of those here. Seriously, what am I supposed to do with an electric drill that doesn't include batteries? Nothing! That's what! I think they also sell furniture or whatever. I'm not saying it isn't worth going to, just temper your expectations. This isn't the Akron Restore we're talking about.

It has a restroom and plenty of changing rooms with a solid selection of men's items. That's mainly all I look for in a Goodwill location. They had a great selection of shirts and casual pants. I will say that this location has pretty high prices for what they sell and it looks like our Goodwill number that we input doesn't work at this location. They had a fair selection of household goods as well. Staff here was friendly and there was plenty of parking with easy access to the streets.

They had a few aisles pretty thickly lined in toys, housewares, games, and even crafts. I found a $50 yard game for $12, some brand new craft items for a few dollars, and a few other odds and ends. This Goodwill is strangely part of the Cleveland group of stores, so their prices were slightly higher than other Akron area Goodwills. Employees were friendly, and I felt like the store was pretty busy compared to other local thrift stores. If I need some random housewares, I may be back, but their book selection was very underwhelming, and I couldn't find a single piece of clothing that I thought was a great deal or cool find.

I've seen people thrown out in the middle of winter into the snow just because they spoke up for themselves. I've seen staff treat the homeless like criminals even though everyone's situation is different. This place isn't all sunshine and rainbows like so many people are trying to make it seem. The staff are on a power trip; including the security in the cafeteria. I went to grab a single hat before dinner and the security told me "you can shop after dinner, bud." Like, I wasn't going to "shop" I just wanted a hat. What does it matter if I grab it before or after? I've had staff talk down to me and threaten to throw me out when I spoke up for myself. They don't like people with minds of their own in places like this. Sure, it's clean, and it's a place to stay but you might as well be sitting in the emergency room. There's no space in the day room. They have like 30 guys sharing 1 bathroom and they won't let you in the back to use the bathroom that has the appropriate number of toilets. If you knock and ask, they give you the worst attitude like you asked them for a hundred bucks or something. They don't give you enough time to sleep. You can't go to bed until 9pm and they wake you up, sometimes by shaking you, at 6am. Some people take a while to fall asleep and some people take a while to wake up. I have explained this to them many times but they don't seem to care. The only reason this place is as popular as it is is because they put up a good front and use the name of God to make themselves look better than they actually are. It's not a good place to live. This would be fine if it were a halfway house or a group home or something like that but it's not. It's a homeless shelter. Not all homeless people are on drugs or have a criminal record. Some of us just have really bad luck. This kind of thing is a fine example of how assumptions ruin things for the people that could actually use it. I am enraged and saddened at the way I've seen people treated here. They have no understanding of mental health at all so if someone is having a rough day, instead of trying to comfort them, they yell at them and threaten them with further homelessness. It's disgusting. To anyone thinking about donating here: don't. There are much more humane places that would actually use your donations to help people in the right way. This place is more like a zoo than a shelter. And the staff are more like corrections officers than volunteers. Don't let the smiles and the kind words fool you. Behind closed doors, these people are quite cruel to the needy.
