We were greeted with the utmost respect from the second we called, to pulling into the parking lot, getting help onto the river, and getting off. It was one of the prettiest parts of the river that we have seen, very wide open. Pulling into the campground from the river, allowed us to experience their adorable establishment. I truly can't wait to go back and camp next time. I won't say any names but we tried the same experience the day before at a close establishment. It was horrible, a long walk with no help, cash only, and a $80.00 cash deposit. The owner was very disrespectful also.

We went canoeing which was also pretty fun, and made some smores over the fire. At night if you walk down to the river you can catch a bit of the stars, they look great out here. I will say to bring a box fan if you can because the cabin gets quite warm at night, and bring your own towels. All in all, we had a great time. We will definitely be returning!

There are also a few grills and large gazebos that can be reserved for local residents in case you want to have a cookout. If you have a dog or child they can play in their designated playgrounds. Admission is free to local residents as well, as long as you display the sticker provided.

The next time we visit it will be for a few days. They have beautiful cabins you can rent. The prices are reasonable. Alaska isn't cheap but well worth saving your pennies for! It is approximately eight miles around by walking or driving. Our daughter-in-law's parents have invited us often to join them at their cottage on Crystal Lake. It is great for boating, kayaking, water skiing, jet skiing, swimming, fishing, and more. Sometimes it gets almost too busy but early mornings are always calm and the best time to sit out and enjoy a cup of coffee. Over the years we have had fierce debates over whether there are actually fish in the lake but some fish have been pulled out once in a while...sometimes even keepers! It is only about an hour from Lansing and two hours from Detroit; a relatively short drive compared to the similar lakes much farther up north. Now back to my nothing box (google it) to stare at the lake.

We were seated by the window so we were able to look out and enjoy the beautiful views of Lake Cadillac. Our service was great! Very nice and friendly. Nice quaint restaurant. Our food was delicious! The campground itself is very rustic: no electricity, hand water pump, outhouse toilets. The park is free to enter and is a popular fishing spot. The dammed side of the river is very rocky and strong current, and the water level fluctuates from flooding into the forest to a bunch of rocks depending on the season. It certainly offers a rewarding fishing challenge if you can fight off the crayfish, snags, and kids jumping in the way to splash in the water. For a better fishing experience, go to the lake side. Shore fishing is met with blobs of grass and minimal catches, but if you take a small boat out into the reservoir, it's filled with sizeable bluegill, smallmouth bass, and the elusive northern pike. I go to this area several times a year for fishing, photographs, and nostalgia.

It's pretty rare to see a three legged bridge, and even more rare to see one as well maintained and gorgeous as this one. We came from the side closest to downtown, and there was plenty of parking in the lot, with free three hour parking on the street as well. There's a watercraft access point for kayaks and the like, and a few people boating and people fishing at the shores of the lake. There were also people having a picnic at the picnic tables. It's a peaceful place to visit and the surrounding grounds are well maintained.

But usually there is plenty of space. It's a pretty drive there which makes you forget it's close to large urban area. Very rejuvenating.
