I was informed of different ways that I could file: in person appointment, online with a tax preparer or online, independently, using their software. I chose to work with a tax preparer online. I made an appointment to receive a call from the preparer in order to get the ball rolling. Anthony Ambrose (same preparer from previous year) called at the appointed time. He confirmed that I would like to file online with him. He explained that all I needed to do was upload pictures of my paper work to him so that he could get started. During the tax prep process, I was able to log into my account from HR Block web site and check on my messages from Tony. I was also able to send messages and questions to him on this account. My husband and I had numerous questions and Tony patiently answered our questions. If he needed to research the answers, he got back with us quickly via phone calls. This mistake was found by me immediately upon review of the paperwork when I got home. I attempted to contact the office to delay the filing of my return, to no avail. I showed up before the office opened the very next day and talked to the manager, as my agent was off that day. He agreed with me on the mistake and filled out an amended return, as he could not reverse the filed return. This amended return was wildly inaccurate. I was informed that I would have to refile ANOTHER amended return after this one was returned as the refund would be excessive. I waited until the end of August, and I have not received a check. I called the Corporate office and made an appointment only to find out that my amended return was never filed (probably a good thing because it was wrong), and she helped me sort out the mess and file the correct amended return. I understand mistakes happen, and I'm reasonable. At the same time, having to raise money to pay taxes I do not owe is unacceptable. Waiting five months to be told the amendment was never filed is unacceptable. Charging me full price after screwing up my return this badly is unacceptable. Stay away from the West Seneca office!!!

Paul refiled and adjusted/fixed all the mistakes I had made. I was also refunded the money I erroneously paid to the IRS due to my misunderstanding of tax laws. This past August I needed to file a form. Tax offices are pretty much closed in August. This form was necessary for a legal issue. I was able to reach Paul and the form was filed within 24 hours. I struggled for 4 years, with the IRS, to correct a tax return that Paul and his staff initially completely botched (not that demanding a return)! I will admit that the IRS owns some blame for their inability to communicate what error(s) Paul's team had originally made, and my mistake was to keep asking Paul to correct the error, that he obviously didn't understand in the tax code from the beginning. Needless to say, four years later I am out over $20,000 dollars, which is part interest due to Paul making errors on not 1, not 2, not 3, but 4 documents he prepared on my behalf, including the final amended return which had a simple mathematical error that almost caused the IRS appeal to come undone, and left me in a compromised position while negotiating with IRS appeals staff. When I contacted him through a small claims action to get him to at least pay the interest that his mistakes had partially caused, he refused to accept blame.
