I went to a local Liberty Tax service this year for the first (AND LAST) time. While Chris McClish (the name that was on my receipt) entered my data into the tax program, I caught him in one error and corrected him. On top of that, he never asked me any questions that my CPA always asked year after year. I was NOT trusting the man, and directed him NOT to file yet due to the fact that I wanted to check his work and/or the tax program's accuracy. This decision to look at his paperwork saved me (approx) $500! I found a total of THREE errors in the Liberty Tax Federal return. Two were Chris's error, one was the Liberty Tax SOFTWARE. Additionally, one error in the State Return.
I am a railroad employee on occupational disability.
The Liberty Tax SOFTWARE did not enter the data connected with that income on the PROPER line on page # 1 (1040) which threw all the figures off thereafter. Because I was in doubt about the program's accuracy, I had to go to the IRS web site and download a copy of the 1040-INSTRUCTIONS. By the time that I did my own taxes (correcting the wrong information on Liberty Tax's paperwork), I filed my FEDERAL taxes for FREE [ FreeTaxUSA dot com]. This dot-com completed the information correctly !!! You can continue on to do your State return for free information, but to file they asked only $12 to file the State tax return.
PROGRAM ERROR:
I would NEVER send anyone to Liberty Tax -- simply because I found a bug in their program. The employee only enters the 1099-R box data in the program. The program then puts the entered data on the 1040 form. The program put the data on the wrong line number in the 1040 making the entire 1040 incorrect!
SECOND ISSUE:
On my Liberty Tax RECEIPT -- and -- on the FEDERAL 1040, was the address of a "MAIN" Liberty Tax location of 86 Leonardville Rd, Belford, NJ. The satellite office that I went to (Hazlet, NJ) was no where to be found on the paperwork!!! The Federal 1040 preparers signature was only "Christopher McC" from Liberty Tax, ... Belford, NJ. Being an irate customer, I sent off a letter to this "MAIN" address. The letter returned to me a few weeks later as UNDELIVERABLE - UTF (unable to forward). This really got under my skin. What would have happened if the IRS wanted to audit me, and these people are no where to be found?
Liberty Tax Service very untrustworthy! Their posted address isn't even real according to the U.S.P.S.!
The same letter that went to the "MAIN" location in Belford, NJ by U.S.P.S., I walked into the satellite office (Hazlet, NJ) telling them to cancel my VISA CARD transaction because I already filed online correcting their errors.
Due to the questions that were NOT asked -- I previously mentioned that Chris never asked me about questions my CPA asked -- Liberty Tax service stated that on my STATE tax return I owed about $200. By the time that I went through the dot-com previously mentioned, I hit those questions stepping through the questionnaire, and do NOT owe any State tax !!!
WOW! Do yourself a favor! Stay away from the Liberty office on Rte 36, Hazlet, NJ! read more
