What an awful experience. After paying them I received my course packet and was very disappointed in what I received. They only provided study information on the legal half of the test. I called wanting a refund and spoke with them and was told refunds were not an option but if I wanted to proceed we could still do that. Which I figured what the hell they already have my money. After a lengthy phone conversation I found I still had some ducks to get in line before submitting application. So after getting everything lined up I called the school back to proceed, and was then informed that I had only a four month time limit and that my enrollment had expired. I was not made aware of any time limit and was told it was in the fine print of my packet. This company is an absolute scam that provides from what I can tell a half rate service, and even worse customer relations. I asked why wasn't a phone call made to me to let me know my hard earned money was about to go up in smoke and the response was "we don't call students, sorry for your loss". Please if you read this use literally any of the other schools, I can almost guarantee a better experience. Also keep in mind this guy says they have zero complaints on their bbb account, yet others have filed complaints as have I. So just because the BBB isn't listing them doesn't mean they don't exists. Edit: I absolutely became engaged and cursed at staff. Is that better sir? You don't receive your packet until after you pay, so I really didn't agree to anything prior to paying you. Secondly I called back immediately after receiving my packet and requested a refund, due to my not being happy with the product I received (which others in this thread having complained about the exact same issue). I was told refunds are not an option. After speaking with the gentleman at that time, we agreed that I needed to do a few things before submitting my application. These items required paperwork to be done with the government, and thousands of dollars being spent (not your problem), but it would've been nice to be told then that I had a very small window to complete these tasks in. Your company and product is a joke. When I asked where the construction knowledge study materials were, I was told "you are then one with the experience, you're supposed to know this stuff" which is an awful way to speak to a paying student (again others in the thread have been told the exact same thing). So yeah when I'm being told you guys are pocketing $750 of mine, with nothing more than a shitty binder with some home printed pages in it, I became very upset and lost my temper. They don't deserve your money Terrible experience, I am a contractor and holds A, general licenses with many additional classifications , I went here 10 years ago and it was okay, but recently I came here and it hasn't changed for the better, it's has no friendly people that work in the front office, it's dated like Ed suit where he's doesn't give you and tips and strategy how to pass your test instead he's sits in his office the whole day, picking up phone calls trying to get more people in; they don't really help you on the math problems bcs I don't think he even knows how to do it. Their classroom sessions are just to come and study. They'll answer any questions you have. But I suggest spending more days in the classroom to study more if you are unsure. Their study material for the law portion was very useful. Make sure you read the stuff in the red binder they send. The trade part you should know a lot about if you are applying the trade. I studied the material in the book I was provided with also attended the two day course and bought the online app study and failed the test. The class was a scam they give you a practice test that you do for 6 hours each day and the instruction doesn't teach anything he just sits in his office. On the test maybe 5 questions they had on their sample test was on the actual test. Your better off buying some study guide online or books and learn yourself. I'm not one for writing reviews, but this is a must. Time is valuable and I took the crash course and let me tell you it's just a waste of your time and money! The structure of the class is to run through the book within the first 4 hrs without given any examples to understand nor any advice as to what is of importance to mark in the book. After lunch, instructor just passes a handout of questions with an answer sheet, which doesn't explain the answer in detail. Instructor sits around and does absolutely NOTHING unless you ask a question directly. All materials given were outdated!!! I left the class and didn't return. My husband went to school, lost two days of work, gained nothing out of it. Lectures are basically a video that they play, they give 400 questions but how are you supposed to answer them if they don't teach you anything. He failed his exam! I will be taking some actions, unacceptable, time is money, and two days is a lot of time! This is the school I used to get both my Pavers License and my Landscape license. I have to say I am surprised to see negative reviews for this location. I wanted to say that Ed was absolutely great. He is a great instructor, very knowledgeable, very attentive, I called multiple times with questions sometimes not even relates to our subjects and he was always of great help, sometimes the other employees are a little "short" but I don't hold them or the company because Ed goes above and beyond for his students. The company has great prices on their study materials I used the cds while I was driving and personally didn't read the books, only practiced the test questions. Their prices are fair and they were in my opinion very honest. If possible I would recommend Ed to be the instructor, and if I am not mistaken you can go to multiple classes to study the questions. read more

I went to this school 14 years ago to get my General Contractors License, and took the test. I passed in 2 hours. I had to retake the test this year because I didn't renew my license. No good school... try another place! I've been in business for over ten years but I'm not real sure what state of California will ask on any test so pay for school to get me ready right.?! Nope from the very beginning I was skeptical because the booklet they sent had me studying all about ladders and scaffolding even though I know I haven't used a ladder or scaffolding on any job ever in the last ten years. So I know everything there is to know about scaffolding and ladders now... not one question about scaffolding and ladders on the test over half of the questions were caltrans related and they didn't have me study one question about caltrans. When I asked the instructor about something his response was you're supposed to have 4 years experience so you should know the answer.!? Wtf that's not the training I paid for, this place sucks . A contractor friend of mine recommended this school to me. I took their prep course and passed my test the first time. They delivered exactly what they said they would deliver... test prep. I want to be clear that this is not an instructional school. You aren't going to learn the "trade" from this. You should know your trade based on your experience. This is a test preparation school. They will give you 400 example questions for the law exam and 400 example questions for the trade exam. I saw many of these exact questions on the exam I took. So, set your expectations correctly. You will get excellent exam PREP from this course. You will not get trade training from this course. They are very good at what they say they do...exam prep. If your goal is to pass the state exam and you know your trade then this course will definitely help you pass. read more

I signed up for this school in February and passed Class B exam in April on the first attempt. The school did a great job at reviewing my applications to ensure that it meets CSLB's standard. The study section also helped greatly because 15-20% of the questions on the exam comes directly from the school's question bank; furthermore, around 30% shares the same format as school test banks. Ed is also a great instructor, he knows his stuff and walked me through on many of the hard questions. The only thing I dislike about the school is that the two days crash section in the Bay Area was too short to my liking; I had no choice but traveled to the school's Sacramento office for extra tutorial prior to my exam. My tips for other students, work the test bank as much as possible and memorize the closeup drawing from the school (which you can take home), lots of points can be earned easily from those two, and don't forget to ask your instructor Ed to walk you through if stuck. read more

I got my Contractor license with them, the instructor was great; I am surprised also for seen some negative things about the school here. I decided to get my license because I worked with some contractors that they did not anything about construction, constructions codes and law; in a few words, they were/are paper contractors but they were making the money but I was the one running the show by my knowledge and experience. If you are thinking and getting your contractor license because you have the 4/5 years experience working with your hands but not with your brain, and do not have knowledge about the codes and regulation, and do not know anything about the business law; then do not expect that the 2 days classes would be enough. The 2 day classes focus on the most important things of the trade and business law and how to answer the test at the contractor license exam. It was easy for me because when I was working at the construction site I did not limited myself on just cutting a 2x4 and drive two nails in but doing research about everything I did, plus I new how to read plans and how to design houses and draw blueprints and do calculations for structures etc. I learn everything on the construction site because I was not limited on just doing the work but I was also learning things and if I did not know something, I did a research and I had books to learn. So good luck to all of you, there is a book from Peerless Institute for General Building B When I bought mine I paid $ 250 but now is being sold for $ 99 It is OK if you want to get help and get prepare for your contractor license exam here, believe me, they are great but is like if you want to win the LA Marathon you do not show up with 2 days of practice because you will not make it to the end, probably not even to mile 6 You have to start getting prepare 3 month before the competition, then 2 days before you do the final tune up for the big day when you have to challenge all the best runners and make it to the end. I hope this helps you at least a little bit, I say it because I tied to teach others on the site, their answer is I do not get paid for that, I get paid to do this then they do not want to learn and put the extra effort for that. The result: they are just labors all their lives. School advertises classes and guarantees you will pass. First, there are no classrooms where teachers speak or lecture. You enter a building with a classroom like setting where you are asked to hand over your drivers license in exchange for the study material......wait...didn't I already pay for the study material? That's right, the next thing they tell you is to ignore the binder they sent to you as nothing in there is on the test. What is on the test are the 400+ questions and answers they give you in a book in which you have 7 hours to memorize. You are not allowed to take notes or anything to study on your own. This school could not accommodate me in the city where I live (san diego) as they said the classes were full. Therefore, they sent me 4 hours away from my home to sit in a building and memorize a book of questions and answers. Needless to say, I had to spend money on a hotel room on top of what I had already spent on their "study" material. I did not pass the exam, nor have they paid for the re-test. I have e-mailed them twice now, and no response. The CSLB exam had only maybe 5-8 of the questions in their study guide. I am going to reach out to the BBB to file a complaint as well. They have not lived up to their advertisements, nor have they honored their guarantee. While I was there, there were several former students who had to return because they too failed their exam. It's a little hard to study for an exam when you don't have any study material. In my opinion, I would not waste my money or time on this school. Very misleading and very disappointing. I went to schools the first one Contractors State License schools was a rip-off I couldn't get a refund paid for my bond can even get that refund then I signed it with license instruction schools none of the questions and answers they taught me in that school where on the chest I passed the Law & business with common sense took my time answer the questions with common sense failed the trade part with a 61 out of 65 and a second term of 63 out of 65 I should have studied but that was my on time I was too busy but these schools take your money and not one of them around the chest not one question or answer and the guy at the State Board admitted with me that yeah none of them were on the test and they don't tell you that they mislead you so save your money don't listen to these are the reviews that are probably people that work for them are people they put up to it put put up to do this please save your money don't go to the schools go directly to a contractor State License Board in your area and go directly to them and get the literature from the book stores don't go to the online tutorials cuz they're not right and learn it from your trade and get some books and study yourself and save you a lot of money thank you read more

They sent me a letter, saying 100% guarantee, when i went there to ask for their material to study at home he told me the material is not enough and you should come in our 2 days classes, so i did the same, firs of all, it supposed to be 1day Law class and 1 day trade, but we had 3 hours law class which he reviewed the material he gave me earlier and then the instructor gave us 400 questions and said most of questions you will see on state exam are the same as these 400 questions so i carefully answered and reviewed them, second day there was no classes and again he gave us another 400 questions for trade exam, long story short, there was nothing to do with them on state exam, i can say maybe 10 to 15 questions of state exam were close to their questions on both law and trade, it was totally wasting time, i should say they refunded my money after failing exams. i would say the best way to pass law exam is to get or download - California contractors licence law& reference book 2014 edition - and just read first 160 pages which is easy to understand and after all you can buy sample questions from any good school to test yourself.
