I love the bakery here. They also have a good selection of staples so I shop here weekly. They are affordable and in times like these where prices continue to climb, I can afford to comfortably feed my family and keep things running at home. They carry many name brands and their store brand on the things I've tried have all been satisfactory. The only reason they only get 4 stars is because the employees seem unhappy. No one smiles or acts friendly. I wish they enjoyed their work just a little, or could at least fake it. But if you can get past the unsmiling faces, shop here and save some money. I'm new to shopping at Lidl and so far it's become my favorite grocery store. The selection is much smaller than Kroger, Food Lion, or Vons/Safeway but the quality of the groceries can't be beat. The produce is always in good condition and prices are cheaper than Walmart! The heads of lettuce, melons, tomatoes that they put out don't need to be picked through to find the best one be used they're all looking fresh and appetizing. This store offers bakery items, produce, fresh and frozen meats as well as dairy, home goods and canned items. Best bang for your buck. read more

the advertised discounted price is not being acknowledged by their system ,I have previously at( least 2 yrs now ) signed up for their discount /rewards program , none of the registers even self check out would take anyones phone number - nobody got the advertised discount . thats misleading the customers . they need to fix their system - and of course only one register open finally another employee opened up a register and had the same problem . smh . lidl here is terrible compared to their oversees stores . fix your equipment read more

I enjoy shopping here, they have a great bakery, especially love their walnut bread, and I love their various international weeks. Just like the grocery stores in Germany, they are a smaller store, but carry everything from basic staples, to unique items that can be a special buy/limited item. The non grocery isles are fun to look at. They have clothing, household goods, toys, etc. I have picked up some good items. The prices at Lidl are good, too, which is a plus. read more

Lidl is usually one of my main stores to go to for food shopping. With their great sales and all their coupons stored in their app it's an easy choice. I've been to this location a couple of times out of convenience (close to my old gym). Every single time I've gone, it's been disappointing. Don't get me wrong, the layout is nice and their selections are the same as any other Lidl stores but this one happens to be so messy all the time. My most recent visit the store looked like it has been ransacked, especially their produce section. I'm glad they're stocking up but to just put out CLOSED boxes of veggies/fruits for your customers to open and pick through is a no no to me. Their meat section was bare. Tons of fridges empty, the same with their dairy section. Now this was a Sunday, PRIME day for food shopping and for everything to be that condition a little before noon is shocking. There was quite a bit of patrons inside the store and I kept overbearing people complaining about the lack of items and little sense of organization. The only reason for the two stars is this location had a lot more cashiers than my regular store so check out was fast and easy. I think I'll still stick with my usual location though! read more

Closes at 9pm. This was a fail for tonight. Good businesses make certain their hours are posted correctly, even on Yelp. This store also stinks, as in a horrible dead animal smell. Most likely rotten meat juices but who really knows. I won't bother to return. read more

It might not be fancy, but the price is right and the food is excellent! We have been more than happy with all of the produce, meat, and even the canned goods. This will become one of our regular grocery shopping spots! I also love the fact that I am in and out of there pretty quickly. I don't have to think through 30 products for one item. Don't get me wrong I like The store layout nice, wide aisles and clean but front end people have much to be desired. At checkout the young cashier felt as if I was bothering her with my purchase. I then asked for gift cards for my son and that was a bother as well. Apparently she didn't do it correctly because my son went lastnight and he seem to be a bother as well and gc did not work. They admitted they had been doing them wrong but nothing they could do for him but give him a number to call during regular hours. Luckily I do have the receipt for those cards. I assure you after getting these cards it will be our last visit. read more

This was my first experience with Lidl and I can say that I'll be back! I only had one of my daughters with me, thank goodness bc the set up of the store is very different than Walmart or Food Lion and took a few moments for me to get used to it. The prices were pretty low, which is a bonus for a 5 person home! The cashier was such a wonderfully nice lady, I'd go back just bc she was so nice. There were a few things on my list I was unable to pick up and that were cheaper at another grocery store, but I got most of my shopping list for under $30. I'll be returning, hopefully childless, so I can really browse and inspect everything. read more

I just got home opened milk for my son and it was so nasty! The top had cottage cheese like substance on the lid and around the top of the bottle. I had this experience with eggs being old too. I rather pay extra and get fresh quality food. FYI the milk was not expired so either the fridge wasn't cool enough or it sat out before entering the fridge! :( read more

I like this store. It is clean, the staff are friendly, the products are good quality & It is near my work. As I write this, it is lunchtime, I am standing in a line 8 people deep. The lunch rush is on and the people stocking shelves continue to stock shelves instead of helping check out customers. There are only two cashiers open for this short but busy time of day. Grumpy customers are saying things like 'I can't believe this', 'really?', 'this sucks'. Imagine how many take their frustrations out on the cashiers? This is the type of customer experience I expect from Walmart and not from this so called European modeled store. I'm no expert, but if you called the stock people up front to help out the cashiers you will get through the rush quicker and more customers will leave the store with five star reviews with five stars instead of three. read more

Today was my first and probably last time going to Lidl. Although they have good produce and food and I like their concept of a byob (bring your own bag) the staff was not very friendly. I went to the check out today and I didn't know the BYOB rule and as I was putting my items on the conveyor belt the cashier lady just stared at me like I was dumb.. She didn't say anything either. Maybe she was having a bad day but it certainly wasn't very pleasant going in there. As I was leaving I said thank you but received no response... I love Lidl, don't get me wrong, but this Lidl! The second time I have come here and experience the WORST check out ever! The lady on isle one too one look at me and walked away. I thought I was being punked. She said nothing and walked. About five minutes late she came walking in from the outside and I was like okay, maybe she was helping someone out there. The she stopped talked to a coworker before heading back to the check out isle. She said not one word to me. Not hello, good bye, your bill is - nothing. She didn't even hand me my receipt. Great prices and a nice clean store. When their meats are marked down it's the best buy in NN. We love their bakery with fresh rolls and cookies. The two stars are for their customer service. The place is clean, well lit, aisles are big and open, the groceries are very well priced. A dozen extra large eggs were 53 cents, a gallon of milk was $2.56 for a full gallon of whole milk. They also have their own bakery. I like this grocery store better than Aldi. They also have free WiFi so you can cut coupons on your smartphone while you shop! read more

Living in this area for a long time, I've seen grocery stores come and go. Anyone remember the Winn-Dixie on Oyster Point? Then all of a sudden, high end grocery stores started flooding the market. WalMart is a little grimy, and Whole foods may not be practical for everyone. Lidl is a breath of fresh air! How do they fit such a variety of things in there? I wish this store was around when I had a houseful of teenagers! On my last visit, I saw cute clothes, salt lamps, shelving, tool sets, and fishing equipment! The produce is fresh, there are a few prepared items for a grab and go healthy meal, and there are all sorts of neat exotic (to me!) items that are just all kinds of fun. Licks prices are so much cheaper than any other grocaries store you will ever go to. Including Wal-Mart. You can get cola for 55 cents and get a bag of pretzels forv99 cents. You can get a cart full of groceries for less than 100 dollars. read more

Just leaving this store and the "security guard" on duty was very unprofessional. He was on his phone most of the time and when he did decide to walk around the store a little boy said "hi" to him multiple times and he chose to ignore the kid and kept walking. We should be spreading love during these tough times and not more hate. read more

I have been to many of the Lidl locations all over. I have been to many of the grand openings as well. This use to be be one of my favorite places to shop. Now every time I leave frustrated and disappointed. They never have what I'm looking for anymore. I buy the same things over and over again at Lidl and the last handful of times they haven't had half the items I was looking for. Have tried this particular store 3 times. I varied time of day to see if long lines at cash registers would be better. It did not matter. They do not seem to have enough people working the cash registers. I wonder if that is why the cashiers seemed so unhappy the first 2 times I went. On third visit, the line was getting a little long and the cashier person was downright rude to me. I was really surprised that she vented on me. That is my last time I will shop there. Why would I tolerate rudeness especially when there are so many other food stores to shop in like Aldi across the street, Food Lion, Whole Foods, Fresh Market- just down a few blocks, and Kroger and Harris Teeter within a few miles?You would think with all the competition in Newport News that Lidl would want employees who are customer friendly and not rude. read more
