It's no secret that I absolutely love this place. I thought I actually did a review for this location a couple of years ago. But, ok they treat you like family here. I've literally never had a bad experience. They always are so polite and go out of their way to help! They have a wonderful selection of flowers that have only gone empty on Mother's Day weekend. I get flowers from them every 2 weeks, they last pretty long. Unlike the majority of the fruit from regular grocery stores, theirs doesn't go bad fast. Despite all of the viral foods that make all of the random ppl come here to record, it's not bad if you come at the right times. Their selection of products are the absolutely best. I had my favorite items and look forward to the new finds. The store is always clean and there are always good vibes. Corey the manager is pretty awesome & always goes out of his way. Amani is one of my favorite associates that I look forward to seeing And my "wine guy" Phil gives THEE best wine recommendations. He hasn't failed me in the last 3 years. Trader Joe's, how have I never left a review for you? I am an avid Trader Joe's shopper. I have been since returning from living in Alaska in 2020. This location is great. The employees always seem happy. They are always working hard. They work hard stocking the shelves and keeping the store organized and clean. We are fans of the samples. Their bath products are fantastic. I love their shampoo and conditioner. Don't skip the frozen food section as well. They also back up their products if there is an issue. Trader Joes has so many great products! I purchase new flowers every 2-3 weeks. Their flowers last so long. My secret is changing the water every week and I use the "food". Their flowers are very popular. I personally love this location. I have gone to the Williamsburg location and just going I did not enjoy it. I would only go in a pinch. read more

I came to this location of a Friday evening with a friend, and it's fine. It was good in the sense that it was TJ's, but it certainly isn't the best location I've been to. The selection seemed a bit off to me - like I swear I've been to other locations that had more things, but maybe I'm crazy??? Anyway, the staff, as always is super friendly and helpful, and it's set up... basically the same as any other location and has the same vibes. There's so much to love about Trader Joe's: fresh + well priced produce, pasta sauces, healthy snacks, wine selection. My favorite thing about the Newport News location is their floral section! I make my own bouquets & they have such vibrant and fresh flower choices. Not to mention you can't beat the prices. Somehow I also always end up leaving with more house plants. They also have an adorable selection of greeting cards for .99 cents! If you've been thinking of trying Trader Joe's- this is your sign! I was not a Trader Joe's fan. I just never really took the time to find things in here. I feel like it was and is geared more to super healthy, organic, and natural.... which is all generally overpriced or more expensive. Lately Ive been trying different things in here. Anything but the bagel? If you haven't tried these products you are snoozing!! Anything but bagel yogurt dip.. bagels.. seasoning.. and these nuts I found?!? Full of flavor and super good. Great location in Newport News! Visited in June 2020 and am super impressed with the continued diligence with COVID precautions. Staff outside were gathering carts consistently from the parking lot, spraying down carts between every use, requiring social distancing outside while waiting in line to go in, reviewing the guidelines before entering (masks required, no reusable bags, use a cart, try to limit touching items unless purchasing them, etc). The store was well stocked. Employees inside were all wearing masks and distancing. At checkout, I waited behind a yellow line while all of my items were scanned and bagged. Once complete, I was asked to step forward and scan my card, then grab my own receipt out of the register and was on my way. A+ for this Trader Joe's! Maybe health officials should take some tips from them on COVID precautions! read more

The best TJ's location in the 757. I didn't start shopping at Trader Joe's until the end of last year. I honestly didn't know what was appealing as I checked out the Williamsburg location a few times. Cone to find out I just needed to go to the NN location to get the full experience. I walked into this location and was pleasantly surprised. They have a large variety of plants, succulents etc and I never see this much variety at other locations. The staff is super friendly and always making conversation. They aren't ever out of the GF bakery cupcakes that I like to get. I am also hooked on the Egg fettuccine, it's so good. I don't do a full grocery haul here but I come for their bottled juices,vegetables and anything else that catches my eye. Only thing I was disappointed about was vanilla extract was $10. Needless to say I didn't buy it but otherwise everything else is fairly priced. read more

This summer someone gave me some salmon from traderJoe's and I started shopping there on a regular basis. I carefully pick things out that are reasonable in price. Last week I got a small rack of lamb for 16.99. The lambchops were very small but they tasted better than I have bought in years. This morning I went there and the same little rack of lamb had gone up to 25.00 dollars. How can businesses raise the price by 8 dollars in a week, wine went up too. I LOVE TRADER JOE'S! If I pass by one, I am stopping. They have the best snacks and chocolates. TJ has a good branding system where when you go in one, you've been to all because the lay out is very similar. Easy to locate items and always a tasting going on! Staff is super friendly and helpful! TJ stays pack so they are constantly stocking items. They always comes out with new items that may be seasonal or test to see how well they will sell. It's like you have to visit often to see what's new... the bad thing is, you never know if they will bring it back. Nonetheless, it's still my favorite grocery store and wish it's one closer to me so I can go often. read more

I'm hooked on the gourmet jelly beans and the dark chocolate covered peppermint Joe-Joe's in here. Devilishly good. I wish I never discovered these as I have to send boxes back home to London.. I ask myself every time I send them, 'why do I want to share these crack-like cookies with anyone, let alone the Brits...' I digress, Trader Joe's is awesome. Trader Joe's is amazing for its variety of spices, organic produce and snacks, and much more. This particular location is such a gem with always fully stocked shelves and friendly service willing to assist anytime. I have never used the coffee grinder and an employee was gracious enough to educate me on it. Trader Joe's is like a smaller version of Whole Foods but IMO way better because the prices are more reasonable. Also, it's not overwhelming with too many selection like big box stores. This trader Joe's location is pretty overrated to me. Now, I do love their baked goods selection like they're scones & lemon squares and fresh herb selections especially their basil. The staff here are very friendly & helpful. The store is clean and well organized. They also give samples. Nowwwwwwwwww, the reason why I feel that it's overrated is because to me, a lot of people really believe that Trader Joe's is like the only store they can shop in and to me, that's just not the case. I still have to go to other stores to continue my grocery shopping. A lot of people also belive they're mostly vegan & that's not the case either. They do have lots of vegetarian options but their vegan options are very slim. They're wine selection isn't that broad to me until Christmas time frame. And the prices to me are kinda pricy. I honestly come to Trader Joe's for the herbs, baked goods, & to buy my pregnant cousin the alkaline water that she adores. The produce section is so weird to me as well because if 100% organic is what you advertise, why do you have organic & non organic produce side by side? Lol. Idk maybe it's just me. It's also conveniently located next to several other stores with lots of parking. I'm surprised I've never written a review of TJ's. I mean...that's just untoward. How dare I? Anyway, it's Trader Joe's. There's not MUCH to say. It's a cheaper version of Whole Foods, and I'm just FINE with that. This location is pretty small, but it's the perfect size for me. I'm able to buy everything I need to sustain my life for another week. I can also appreciate how dope their staff is. That's what the real rating is for. I've been many places, and I've seen many things. This particular location has done a great job of staffing. Truly some of the most pleasant people that I've ever encountered outside of Chick Fil A. We have no trader joes in Hawaii so I gotta get my fill of here when I am in the mainland. This trader joes is not too busy so it is pretty easy to get around and roam. I have been coming here weekly to grab their ready made salads so I don't end up eating a burger after I get off of work. The salad selection is plentiful and I have not had a bad salad from here yet. I have also been buying my wife and kids souvenirs and snacks for them to enjoy in Hawaii so I buy $35 worth of stuff and send them over to Hawaii for $20. Enjoying trader joes in Hawaii is expensive. Lol. But overall I like this Trader Joes and have not had anything bad here. I think they have very reasonable snacks and their produce is a super fresh. This has become my new #1 grocery store. I never realized how amazing the prices were until I went shopping for eggs. I got a dozen jumbo white eggs for $0.99!!! Seriously? The variety is really good with the groceries they sell and you pretty much can get everything here from food, beauty products, to dog food and wine. Everything in this store is the healthier version of whatever it is you already eat and in most cases it probably tastes better too. Customer service is always really good and they are super helpful. Pricing is not as expensive as most people would think, especially comparing it to Whole Foods (don't worry, I still like them, too). I have jumped onto the Trader Joes band-wagon! There is an office party today at work that is Italian themed and because of last night's tornado warnings I decided not to cook in case the power went out. I was driving around wondering what I could do when I remembered Trader Joes is up the street from work and they have all sorts of goodies. The store was near empty and was very clean. Trader Joes has a specific smell to it.. I am not sure what it is. It always smells like -something- when I am walking in.. they have flowers in the foyer and during the fall they had cinnamon witches brooms but those aren't what I smell. Anyhow. Samples are located in the back of the store past the wine. There are usually 2 offerings of food and they have wine tastings, as well. The prices really aren't that bad compared to local grocery store chains for what you get. I picked up garlic hummus, rosemary Italian crackers, Italian cracker breadsticks, and an Italian grapefruit soda... all for under $10. SCORE! The check out lines are weird to me because there's no belt.. you give your cart to the cashier and they take the items out themselves. It can get awkward when you have a kid in the cart. Overall I enjoy coming here and am glad they have such a wide variety of products. read more

I love Trader Joe's. Coming from nyc I missed it and I'm so happy to hear there was one in VA. I've been going here weekly for the past year and since COVID started I go once a month. I'd like to say this is the only retail/grocery place with the best protocol for handling the pandemic. They sanitize the carts after every use. Offered hand sanitizer to everyone and free water bottles on a hot Virginia day. Staff are friendly. Everything is so clean and they're handling things correctly. 2 thumbs up! read more

The Trader Joe's here has been my beacon of light in the turd of a city. All the decent selection of vegetarian food and luxury treats at cheap prices. I can see the locals who think going to Applebee's is a fancy night out not liking a lot of the food at trader joe's. If it's not a super sized sugar bomb for a dollar, I'm sure they would find Italian truffle cheese to be unappealing and overpriced. But the really great part about the Trader Joe's is the employees are nicer and better spoken than 90 percent of the population of Newport News. There is a smaller selection than their stores on the West Coast but still far better selection of healthy affordable food than most of the larger supermarkets in the town. Not to mention considering there are almost no restaurants in this town that aren't chains, causal dining or even worse buffets of lard if you care at all about your health and are visiting this horrible city, this is one of the few options with tasty pre-made food. read more

Trader Joe's is great. They have a lot of unique, cool hard to find ethnic foods with organic living in mind. I love the curry naan bread and can always smell it the moment I walk in the front door. The staff is super friendly, the store is always clean and organized and the produce is always fresh and delicious. It is however on the pricey side, so I wouldn't suggest doing your entire week's worth of shopping there, but if you're looking for something in particular they're bound to have it. read more

Finally a decent cupcake! and it came frozen! I have been on a quest for a decent cupcake for years. Everything I've tried (in NYC) has been too dry, too sweet, or not enough flavor. So I see these Trader Joe's chocolate cupcakes, with dark chocolate icing. They are frozen, so I'm thinking they are probably not so great. I was SO wrong. They were amazing. Chocolate fudgy goodness with just the right amount of sweet. Super moist, and very nice balance of chocolate. This is coming from someone who doesn't love chocolate so much. I know! Blasphemy right? Trader Joe's is great for surprises. Almost everything I've had has been very good and very affordable. They have amazing pizza made in Italy, a delicious creme brule with raspberries made in France, and did I mention the chocolate cupcakes? The cheese & produce is a bargain up to half of what you'd pay at other stores. They also have a wonderful wine & beer selection. My only grip with them is they don't have enough stores and I have to trek at least 50 minutes to get to my local Joe's. Other than that they are awesome! read more
