I recently had the chance to visit Austin, a city I love, spend time with family, and worship at Life Church Austin--one of the city's most active and growing churches. The Hill Country campus is beautiful. I was greeted at the door with a handshake, a fist bump, and genuine eye contact. The worship space had the feel of a concert venue, and the music was excellent. I truly felt the power of worship in that moment. The message that morning also presented the gospel in a clear, thoughtful, and beautiful way. I'm grateful for the opportunity to worship with you. As a pastor currently on sabbatical, I've been visiting churches and paying close attention to how newcomers are received. Although the official greeters welcomed me, no one from the congregation introduced themselves or began a conversation. After the service, I even spent time near the "New Here" table, but still left feeling unnoticed. A church can offer excellent music, a strong message, and a beautiful campus, but a simple greeting can be just as powerful. "Hi, I'm Bob. I'm glad you're here" can make someone feel seen. That kind of personal hospitality is one reason Oceanside First Presbyterian Church became our church home. Thank you, Life Church Austin, for a meaningful worship experience. Please help advocate with church leadership regarding the sudden closure of the LifeFamily Learning Center (Mueller). Staff and parents were given two weeks' notice of the closure. It is impossible to find other childcare arrangements in that timeframe. More importantly, the beloved staff will be left jobless at Christmas. This is out of line with the values and ethics I know the church stands for. Please let church leadership know this is not okay. read more

The volume if the music was so obnoxiously loud that my ears ached and body practically shook. I had to put tissue in my ears to try and and tone it down. This review is not for the church but for the cute Dog Park they have created. Our vet told us about this place. It is sort of close to our house so we decided to go see what it is about. It is call Jake's Place Dog Park. They day we attending not another soul was around. Our dog and us. I hope some more people in the area make it a regular thing. Has a small dog and a big dog side. We got to play in both since no one else was there. Both sides have some agility gear to use. Water fountain. A bench for the human breed. Not a huge dog park but since we were the only ones there how much space do you need. It was fun to use the agility gear and I am sure we will be back. read more

*Disclaimer* This is NOT about the Church services.. it is about the Disc Golf Course and the great staff from the church. Most recently, as a member of the local disc golf community and a board member of the large Waterloo Disc Golf Club, I attended the grand opening of their 9-Hole Disc Golf course. This was the first event of the kind for the staff and members of the Life Austin Church and they put everything they could into it. They provided food, snacks, water, Kona ice, raffle prizes, disc golf clinics, and many other things that made the day special for kids and their families. Pastor Randy Phillips (of the same great music group Phillips, Craig, and Dean) has a great spirit with him and he really appreciates the community. It was great speaking with him when I had the chance (and having fun with his dog.. who doesn't love a fun dog?). The course is a nice medium length technical course. Challenging enough for experienced players and easy enough for beginners. I appreciated the layout and design of the course considering the tight land constraints they have to work with. Hole one is by the parking lot, under the tree, near the volley ball courts. You will see a course map there as well. The course was designed and installed by local Innova Discs Pro Joel Kelley. [Disclaimer: He is a friend of mine.. but that shouldn't matter as you will like the design and I just like to state that for the record (keeping Yelp honest!)] As a very experienced player, I enjoyed watching Joel, members of the UT Disc Golf Club, and others give tutorials on the skills needed to play. I really enjoyed seeing the smiles on everyone's face while having a fun day in the sun as a family. Nothing makes me happier than seeing someone get introduced into a beloved sport involving discs AND seeing it played together with families. WIN! = WIN! The course is not long, but has it's great attributes. The lengths of the holes are moderate from 180ft to 320ft, with only one long hole over 400ft, so leave your "big arm" throws at home. Here it's all about technique and consistency. The tee pads are concrete and the baskets are mounted well. You will find yourself throwing from elevated tees, across gaps, and to an elevated basket. You can also find yourself throwing uphill, downhill, across creeks, and on flat land. You have most of all the things that you desire in an introductory course with challenges. So, if you are looking for something to do before or after church; come play it. If you are passing by the area or live nearby, this is a great beginners course that can help you learn the sport and meet others in the community. Note: Be prepared from some unexpected creek crossings if it rains hard a day or two before you play. It seems that mother-nature decided to carve paths between some of the holes. On opening day they circumvented this, but it was never planned to have walking paths through water run-offs. Life Happens! Additional note: Like in all of Central Texas, there are up-n-down inclines, cactus, bull nettle, and other things that could affect your day in a painful sad way. So simply use caution..and understand the concerns. If you wanted to avoid the steepest of inclines, you may want to skip holes #1 and #2... just remember: it's Texas and enjoy the outdoors! Sunday services are at 9:00am and 11:00am. Seems like a good church. I've been a few times and the worship and messages are both really solid. Service is around an hour and 15 minutes from beginning to end, which I appreciate. I recently came from a church that didn't even get to the message for an entire hour! One bad note: I filled out their new person "I want to get connected" card, and never received a phone call. When I went to their information booth in the lobby, all my questions were answered with "that's all available on our website." read more

If you get involved in small groups, you will truly get connected and understand your purpose in this church and God's purpose in your life. Attend the 4 membership classes to understand the church's mission and beliefs. GET INVOLVED! Join a Dream Team! I appreciate Pastor Randy's down to earth "country" preaching...he knows how to apply the bible to today's world. The music is uplifting and sets the mood to truly PRAISE GOD each week! I cannot imagine attending anywhere else. For those critics of the seating-There will be a new traditional chapel this spring, so don't let the seating deter you from God's word and a church family that reaches out to all. Will you always agree with a pastor's interpretation of the bible? I don't think so. That's why you are invited to study in small groups and have discussion. Just because you don't agree with a sermon or two, that should never drive you away from a church. I for one would have run out of churches by now! Again, get involved in small groups, study, discuss, provide your input to others in the class, and learn. Sunday sermons aren't meant to be the end of the discussion. LifeAustin has changed my life! Disc golf course only. Great technical 9 hole course. I threw par with a wizard but I was trying to. Great spot to get out without a lot of walking or disc searching. Take a friend and play some Safari Golf. I played three different times of the day. Fog, morning, early afternoon. All were enjoyable. Longest hole is approx 505ft shortest being 127ft I believe. Multiple water crossing. read more

Wow. This is the church for me. The pastor is randy Phillips from Phillips Craig and dean. He has beautiful voice if he decides to sing. The band is amazing without him too. It makes you in the mood for worship if you like k-love style christian rock. Randy is a great pastor. Entertaining and down to earth. The fellowship is amazing and they have helpful events on non-Sundays. Like men's breakfast on Mondays. And Wednesday night activities. Just go visit. You'll enjoy yourself and feel welcome even if this isn't your exact fit. Welcoming to all believers in Jesus or those who are open to the message. Destroys the quality of it's neighbors with super loud noise that can be heard a mile away. Not very neighborly or caring to residents who were here long before them. I am writing a review of an outreach event the church held NOT the actual church as I have never been and will never go. They had a "Life Kids Festival" advertised as "free unlimited rides, food trucks, bouncy houses, and more." Free to get in. I thought great, I've got two 8-yr old girls with a lot of energy. They completely oversold/overadvertised this event to the point where it was cruel. There was ONE ferris wheel, one giant slide, one big swings, and one tilt-a-whirl. Three bouncy houses and tiny toddler roller coaster. The lines for the rides were 45 minutes, at least. It took me 35 minutes of waiting in line to get 4 pieces of pizza, because they only had three food ltrucks. I mean, this place obviously expected tons of people because they had golf carts to take people to and from their cars, that's how large (and full) the parking lot was. It was a prime example of a "Christian" organization luring in the poor and vulnerable with kids they can't afford to take to a real 6 Flags. So many little kids waiting, waiting, just for one 5 minute ride = one ride the whole night! It made me really angry. My girls made do with running around the ampitheater and entertained themselves, although one was sorely disappointed when 30 minutes before the event ended, she went to get in line for the swings and an event host said, no these lines are closed because they are taking 45 minutes. This is a Bible based church that is full of real people. The pastor is just outstanding and the music is out of this world. If you are sick of the norm and ready to meet God exactly where you are, please visit LifeAustin. They have outstanding classes on Wednesday nights for all ages and 2 services on Sunday mornings.
