Grateful for Pastor Brad who reflects Jesus so naturally. His leadership is 1 of the reasons the church has grown so beautifully. I love how he stands by the entrance both at the beginning and at the end of the service, making time for people in such a personal way. Today after 12:15pm service, my father and I were waiting to greet him. I dreamed about him last night, so it felt important to at least shake his hand, introduce him to my dad who is visiting from out of country. Pastor Brad was in conversation with someone else, and because of his kindness and desire not to be rude, he continued to give them his full attention. My dad grew a little impatient, and we were about to leave, but just as we were walking away, Pastor Brad noticed us and called out with such warmth: "Hey!" He greeted us so genuinely, as though he had been aware of us the whole time. That moment carried such light, humility, & thoughtfulness- it reminded me of how Jesus notices people, even in the smallest details. It may seem simple, but it meant a lot to me and my father. Pastor Brad's example is a true reflection of Christ's heart. The worship here is my fav. It's powerful, uplifting, Spirit-filled. I've also been deeply blessed by the Freedom Group. Although I haven't quite found close community yet, I still love attending service because of the worship, the Word, and Pastor Brad's Christ-centered leadership. The sense of community at this church is incredibly warm and welcoming. From the friendly greeters to the volunteers throughout, you can tell they really care about making everyone feel invited. The parking situation is a bit of a headache, but they've just signed a contract with the Burger Center, which will provide 500 additional parking spots, in addition to their current private lot. Shuttle buses from the Burger Center will take you directly to the church (once it's officially launched). In addition to brewing coffee for the community, they also offer a full latte bar with a variety of beverages and snacks for sale. It might just be a theory, but I can't help but think they intentionally keep the coffee a bit lackluster to boost their sales... The service lasts an hour and fifteen minutes, which includes singing and prayers, and updates and the sermon from the pastor. I appreciated that during the singing, they invited anyone in need of prayer to come to the front, and gave plenty of time to do so. It was moving to see people receive the support they were seeking. However, despite all the positive aspects, I have to admit that my experience for my first time wasn't exactly what I was going for. After singing, the pastor spent the next 45 minutes talking about football and church updates, and the last 15 minutes primarily consisted of him repeatedly shouting, "I LOVE THIS CHURCH." I couldn't help but feel like I was either at a pep rally or a cult gathering. The pastor is clearly passionate about his church, but I was hoping for a more meaningful message. Given the timing after Thanksgiving, it would have been nice to hear a sermon centered around gratitude or something seasonally appropriate. I'd definitely consider coming back, but with a more insightful message next time and my own cup of coffee. read more

I was baptized here today, and the gentleman who baptized me was genuinely Godly. I'm grateful for the experience and I believe my baptism was real and holy. But during the service, something felt off. The pastor kept pushing the idea of "planting a seed," and he tied it almost entirely to giving money to the church. He didn't acknowledge that planting seeds in Scripture can also mean serving, loving others, or growing spiritually. The message made it feel like if you weren't giving financially, you weren't planting seeds at all. At one point an older woman gave over $2,000, and instead of feeling inspiring, it felt like the pastor was emotionally pressuring the room. The whole moment had an almost staged quality, like he was trying to create dramatic emotion rather than letting anything genuine happen on its own. The atmosphere reminded me of those scenes in movies where the preacher is overly theatrical and everything feels a little too rehearsed. I still appreciate the kindness of the congregation and the sincerity of the man who baptized me, but the sermon itself didn't feel aligned with the gospel or with authentic faith. read more

I went here at the recommendation of a coworker and really enjoyed the service. This church was packed, but I found parking pretty easily by the main lot and also found a seat easily when I arrived 15 mins late. Website says service is about 67 mins. That felt accurate, and I LOVED getting in and out in an hour. There was about 15-20 mins of singing/opening, 20-30 mins of message, and 5-10 mins closing. The preacher is young, enthusiastic, and relatable. The message was relayed well with just enough real-life to scripture ratio. Other churchgoers were engaged and kind. I went alone and felt totally comfortable. I will definitely go back. read more

If you're new to the Austin area like I was 5 years ago and you're looking for a home church, come and check us out! I came on a Wednesday night service (7:30 pm) after work and was greeted with nothing but love from random strangers! It all started as I walked through the door. At least 5 people said hello, hugged me, and helped directed me to the sanctuary. As I waisted for service to start, 2 sets of random strangers came up to me and said hello and actually invested a little time to ask about me. If there's one thing this church is abundant in is Love. I was told to come back Sunday (9:00,10:30,12:00) to hear from our Senior Pastor and I was not disappointed! Then just a couple months later, our Young Adult ministry Sunday's @7:30pm) started up and I can say that I have found true Goldly relationships! I was raised catholic and never really had a personal relationship with God, but Christian Life Austin has helped shape and grow my walk with Christ. There is many opportunities for you to grow and to serve at Christian Life Austin and to be the man and woman God is calling you to be! I do love this church but given in the times we are living in I feel "repentance and end times" needs to be preached more. There are alot of people who think they are going to heaven just because they don't feel they are a bad person. People need to be made aware of their eternal destination. My husband and I received a warm welcome as we entered the church. We are from California. We arrived early so we sat and observed the other worshippers coming in. We noticed there was a good diversity of people, young, old, in between, African-American, Latino, Caucasian, dressed up folks and casual. When asked, an usher told us about the pastor's love for all people. He called the pastor over so we could meet him and Pastor said a church should look like heaven and be filled with all types of people. I appreciated his geniality. The service was pretty full but we found seats on the balcony. It was a good sermon with spirit filled, vociferous, enthusiastic, and. expressive participation from the body. I'd rather not give any stars, but oh well. Very un-inviting atmosphere. Walked past 2 gentleman in the parking lot who'd rather discuss buying cars than give a simple good morning. Once inside, 3 people at the front desk looked at my wife and I, then went back to their conversations, not even batting an eye. Being new'ish to Austin and still finding a church, this is the absolute 1st church where no one seemed to want to greet us. All of the reviews may be from long time members. I am surprised to see the negative review on 6/5 and it really bothered me as it is so incorrect. I am in no way related to any of the pastors, staff, or their family. I have never seen anything but welcoming from each and every one of them. The welcoming starts as you drive into the church parking lot with signs held welcoming you. Pastor Johnson is always standing at the entrance to give you a hug around your neck whether he knows you or not. Then there is about 10 other welcoming staff at the entrance and inside the foyer. If a person came to church in a "mood", then this welcome is sure to change that. The focus should be on the Lord, not the congregation and what they are or are not doing. We are accountable to God for ourselves. We should uplift others instead of breaking them down and be happy for their successes. So to my Austin peeps, you should know that this place is awesome! read more

I've visited quite a few churches in my lifetime, and this one is, by far, my favorite! Everyone is very nice and welcoming. No one has ever made me feel judged or looked down on. I always feel loved, cared for and accepted. The atmosphere is beautiful, the music is great and the leaders are awesome. I love this church! The real deal for a pastor, no superficialness here. Pastor J is always out on the porch greating everyone as they come into the church. It's a wonderful, spiritfilled, and non-judgemental congregation, who are very welcoming. CLC has incredible music and very current topics in the sermons that you can use everyday of your life. I cannot tell you how much Pastor Johnson, his family, and many of the people that go to CLC, have helped us in our life! First, let me start by saying I absolutely love this church. I'm from Houston and moved here to Austin for college 2 years ago. This church is a friend church to mine back home so I already knew about CLC. CLC is a spirit filled spirit led community. The pastor, Rex Johnson is a Godly man and leads his church according to the bible. If you come to ONE service (there are three every Sunday: 9:00, 10:30 & 12:00pm) you will see that for yourself. The music and worship is SO GOOD. Get here early because it's crowded and lots of people want a good seat. There is also a youth service for all ages. I go to the Tuesday night Continuum service for 18-35year olds at 9pm. read more

We moved here from San Diego 4 months ago and we were looking for a church that would be good for us all. Well we found it here at Christian Life. Everyone is so nice and helpful. We love pastor Johnson he gives a great sermon each and every time. He is so passionate in his sermons that you can actually feel his love for the Lord in each of them. Christian Life Austin -the pastors, family, and staff- have gone ALL IN for Jesus Christ and dedicated their whole lives to serve the community in the way they live and prepare for every service and event! My life has completely changed since water baptism on Easter of 2017...I've attended the last 5 years and every time I've lived in Austin, going back to 2004 because God just keeps drawing me in. I visited this church about 6 months ago but am currently doing a search of LGBT friendly churches in Austin and this church came up again in the search. This church is not LGBT friendly. This is my Google review from my experience. People greeted me warmly at the door, I enjoyed the praise and worship and the sermon. Just now a man called from the church to follow up with me who had a Scottish or Irish sounding accent. I took the opportunity to ask about the churches stance on LGBTQ issues and the person said they are welcome to attend but not welcome to hold any leadership roles. I noted that gluttony is one of the 7 deadly sins but the church allows overweight people to be in leadership so I don't understand why one sin is held higher than another. The man kept interrupting and speaking over me after I asked several times that he'd let me finish my thought and then told me I clearly have my own issues. I eventually had to hang up on him as he wouldn't let me get a complete thought in while he was talking at me. Extremely rude, disrespectful, and disappointing. I will definitely not be returning. read more

If you're in south Austin seeking a church, this is the place! I was a little intimidated and nervous to walk in alone and I was scared I wouldn't know the layout but this church pays attention to detail in the most helpful way! There's people who direct you where to park, there's a golf cart to chauffeur you right to the entrance! Also, there are really attentive ushers! This man saw me walking and looking lost wandering and wondering where to sit and he found me a spot up front second row I was very pleased to have help I didn't want to be walking around bothering anyone and asking if seats were taken before service. I love that there's a full choir and basically a concert for Jesus before service! I also noticed all seats are first come first serve Basis I love this as opposed to most church's that have reserved seating! Yes they do have some great talent when it comes to music, if they would turn down the volume about 50 decibels ! Pastor Mitch said during a service that he would rather give 100% of his money to the lord and be blessed than give less and be cursed. REALLY ! well I don't receive that word. God will bless anyone who gives whatever they are able too. They also say they love you so much but when your tithes lessen then all of a sudden your are not so important anymore. i went there 7 times and witnessed people talking about other ppl and not in a positive way. I know a church is a place to get your spirit right and to improve and provide a better walk with God but out of the 7 times i went it was a big show. I got fed once out of the 7 times all the other times it was some other activity or another and no word given. read more

I want to piggy back on the 6/26/2016 review made by Phil. He is correct. I was a member of this church for a short period. When I joined I was drawn by the amazing praise and worship but with each Sunday the teachings got less and less biblical. I love solid teaching along with wonderful praise and worship but learning God's word takes is the highest priority. One thing that disturbed me most was just how few people brought a Bible to church but I soon came to realize you didn't need it. Pastor Johnson tells fabulous stories that he manages to weave some Scripture into. What finally made me leave is one Sunday the sermon was centered around Don Quixote! I hardly think the average person even knows who this is and furthermore, the man was an eccentric false character. The message had to do with being different - I sat there waiting to hear the name JESUS, I kept looking around to see if it were only me. My 17 year old daughter called the sermons motivational speeches which explains why so many are attracted to this facility. "Itching ears" 2 Tim 4:3 is what the Bible describes it as - people don't want the truth because it forces us to examine ourselves according to God's commands instead many grasp to the promises and to grace. If we truly love God we will seek Him and desire to please Him. I was disappointed having to leave CLC but I value my spiritual growth far too much. read more
