They have a system where they go to each farm/vendor at the market and ask for any leftover produce/food that would be going to the dumpster, volunteers sort and pick, and then the food is weighed and sent off to agencies/groups to deliver, or to a farmer. We had a super enjoyable experience. They take COVID very seriously and I felt safe the whole time. They look for volunteers every SAturday from ~1:30-4:30pm (though, we were there on a slower day and were done and cleaned up by 3:30ish - it just depends on the day). In non-Corona times, they do a monthly event at Abundance co-op that talks about the importance of composting. From their knowledge and expertise, I was able to start my own backyard pile and was also inspired to dig up/create my own raised veggie garden. All of our food scraps now go into a super cheap DIY bin, with full instructions on how to accomplish this given by CC. I think the bucket program would be the perfect fit for anyone in an apartment or anyone just looking to make an easy sustainable change. They make everything so easy and I look forward to being a strong supporter of this org for as long as I possibly can!

Their goal is to aid and assist newly arrived refugees by giving them clothes, housewares, tutorial services, and by setting them up in new apartments. Lots of families rely on Saint's Place to get set up upon arriving in Rochester. What I really liked the most is that the refugees pick out clothes and leave with them that same day. Here's how it works: you can just leave your donations on the back porch and grab a receipt if you itemize. Make sure you keep everything together in a plastic bag to protect from the elements! For those of you who love a good garage sale, Saint's Place has an annual super sale. This is noteworthy because it's the one time of the year when they accept donations of non-children's books. Saint's Place normally only takes children's books because the refugees are only now learning to speak English. Clothing donations should be of the casual variety, maybe a little business casual to be thrown in. Pickup is available as well if you can't drop off your donations easily. Of course, volunteering is also good too! I'm glad my friend told me about Saint's Place because I know my old clothes will be put to good use here. I had no idea where it was at first, and then realized it's next to an eatery place I go often. This particular workshop was about four past US Presidents. I was curious, and registered. The venue was pretty full of seniors. This is a great venue for us to get information, and many more services. The workshop was great. I learned about three Presidents. I knew nothing of their legacy. The presenter was knowledgeable and well-prepared. Snacks were provided (fruit, power bars, candy, water) I really enjoyed it.

I was working through applying for the First Time Homebuyers club. It's a tedious process that requires printing a ridiculous amount of paper. The person I was working with was uninspired and gave off the overall vibe that I was inconveniencing them by applying. There was an extreme lack of communication, and ultimately it was up to me to figure out that I was denied 2 months into the process. She never bothered to tell me I was denied. Once I questioned Neighborworks about it, they said I was over the income requirements; they showed me the final application, and the worker put down my wrong income info. I would love to make what she said I make - but I showed them the math (multiple W-2's) and that I was well under the income limit. NO RESPONSE. I had to prod more, and eventually I was told I have to wait for the next calendar year to apply again with this years taxes. No apology, no acknowledgement that they screwed up, nothing. At this point, it's too late for me to apply, I need to buy a house well before I'd finish the saving program. TL;DR - Applied for FHBC. They messed up my application with a math error. Denied by state lending agency. They never told me and never apologized.
