Our Director of Children's Ministries was abruptly fired. Senior Pastor Paul Cunningham stated, "She was a square peg in a round hole, and not a good fit." He also told her "there was nothing wrong." When Paul was asked how long this had been planned, she was told it was "really none of her business".
Rude. Firing someone for no cause when there is "nothing wrong" is rude enough. In a later meeting when Paul was asked why she couldn't have been asked to step down, resign or simply tell her the church was going a different direction he had no answer, because there is no logical explanation! In my opinion he was either, too thoughtless to consider that or has SOMETHING PERSONAL AGAINST HER AND HER FAMILY and wanted the whole family out of the church. Not a smart business decision or one of compassion you would expect from Westmoore Community Church, a church who claims to accept everyone.
Our Director of Children's Ministries was completely blindsided by this decision. There was no warning given, nothing that would indicate her job was in jeopardy. She was not even allowed to defend herself. "Nothing is wrong" "your just not a good fit" and "it's a done deal". This is how she was treated after her and her family have been faithful servants of WCC for 16 years.
In fact, this position was offered to her by WCC. She did not apply for it. Westmoore Community Church sought her out. Needed her! She was happily employed at the time and quit her job to work for Westmoore Community Church. Who thought she was a great fit! After a 2-month interim period she was offered the job permanently which she held for two years. Because she was a great fit!
What changed? Andy Tilly was hired and praised by Paul as someone we can't pay enough. Recently a consulting firm has been hired by WCC for coincidentally, about the same amount the Director of Children's Ministries was being paid. 44,000.00 dollars. With payments due monthly of about 3700.00. Its no secret the church is downsizing. The building payment is more than they can afford. In my opinion the church is failing because of poor leadership. Mismanaging the congregations tithing to pay a firm to help them collect more tithing just feels deceitful. The Director of Children's Ministries position duties were split into 5 different unpaid volunteer positions. $o that i$ why $he doe$ not fit.
I am disgusted by Senior Pastor Paul Cunningham. No warning. No discussion. WCC does not act like a Christian Church, WCC just cast her and her family out without warning. "The church of the MESSED UP" fits perfectly because THAT is MESSED UP! It doesn't stop there.
She was offered a severance package and told Pastor Paul she would need to think about it. She texted and e-mailed several staff members over the next two days attempting to accept the severance and did not receive a response. In my opinion the severance package was not a genuine offer. It was an obvious attempt to buy her silence regarding some of the nefarious decisions being made by WCC leadership.
If this was a financial issue why not be honest like you would expect from a church pastor? I really feel there is something reprehensible going on and have urged the denomination to investigate the accounting practices and leadership of Westmoore Community Church. I really care about WCC members and don't want to see them taken advantage of.
If you are looking for a good church try Victory Church where many of the good people who formerly attended Westmoore now attend. Westmoore Community Church is a waste of time.
