6/27/26. If you're sick, dehydrated, and in an unfamiliar town, go to the hospital instead. I arrived at 8 am with suspected food poisoning and dehydration. While the PA prescribed anti-nausea medication, I found myself having to ask basic questions about how to safely rehydrate, what I should be drinking, and the min amt I needed to avoid becoming more dehydrated. Those are things I expected would have been discussed without asking. She ordered a stool sample kit and her nurse or tech instructed me to drop the sample off at Newport Hospital's lab. I called the lab and was closed. I then called urgent care for guidance. I explained that I was very sick, weak, dehydrated, and in a town I was unfamiliar with. I was told to "drop it off anyway" because "they would take it." When I asked who "they" were if the lab was closed, she would answer the question. Instead of helping me figure out where to go, the staff member became dismissive. When I asked for her name, she refused to provide it, saying she wasn't comfortable giving it to me. I was left confused, still very sick, and without clear instructions for completing the testing they had ordered. Patients deserve accurate information and compassionate communication, especially when they're acutely ill and away from home. I will be filing a formal complaint. read more

They don't prescribe codeine at this place, just as a matter of policy. So, even if you have been hacking your lungs out for a couple of days, missing sleep, etc., and if like me codeine is the ONLY THING THAT ACTUALLY WORKS, then you are out of luck! Don't expect much sympathy from the people who work at this place. They are just going through the motions. Two hours of my life were wasted at this place. I won't be back. read more

Came in for a cold on a Wednesday morning and had little to no wait. The front desk staff was so understanding and helpful. My entire visit was just over an hour and that included having chest radiographs taken. After having bad experiences with many urgent cares in Rhode Island, I would drive over the bridge to come back here any day. Super clean and modern office as well. read more

I went there yesterday for a hand injury after making an appointment online. I was seen by NP Meaghan within five minutes of the appointed time, she was extremely personable, thoughtful, knowledgeable and thorough. Stacy was the on-duty Ex-Ray Technician and she also could not have been more pleasant, thoughtful or professional. My ex-ray results were back from Newport Hospital with 30 minutes and Meaghan not only thoroughly explained them to me but also ensured I had no additional questions. I had a previously unknown existing condition in my hand that was exacerbated by the injury which they detected, Meaghan explained that in detail as well, and she went above and beyond by ordering me a topical RX, that I hadn't even considered prior to our discussion, which helped greatly with my hand discomfort. I could not have been more impressed or appreciative of my experience. Everyone with whom interacted in addition to Meaghan and Stacy, also had smiles on their faces and made an obvious effort to make my experience a positive one. I could not recommend Lifespan Urgent Care Middletown or Meaghan and Stacy more highly, and I am very grateful for the exceptional care I received, as well as happy I went there for my medical needs. read more

We had a positive experience at this health center yesterday. I walked in to find it clean with a nice lobby and helpful woman at the desk who filled out most of the information on her computer to patients don't have to fill out pages and pages of forms. (It is time consuming either way). I waited for 10 or 15 minutes before being seen by the medical assistant who took my vitals and another 5 minutes before seeing the PA. I asked for a strep throat culture since I couldn't swallow and I've been around people with similar symptoms. We are cruising around on our boat which is in Newport). I test positive and the PA prescribed antibiotics. I asked family members and the crew to test at the same facility yesterday and today and some tested positive. If someone takes antibiotics for strep you are no longer contagious after 24 hours. Hopefully we've nipped it in the bud so others don't get sick. read more

i was referred here by a nurse named Mara via Jamestown family practice I brought my father here today on 10-21-21 in the afternoon due to urinary issues. Upon my arrival, I told the receptionist that I needed a wheelchair for my dad. She asked what his medical issue was so I told her a possible UTI. She refused to give her name and stated they do not handle any urinary issues whatsoever. I took him to south county hospital ER and reported this facility to the RI Health Dept. the website here clearly states they handle Urinary issues!! An urgent care clinic is supposed to handle a variety of medical issues. Consumers beware!! Nothing but quacks here!! I wish I could post the screenshot of the lifespan website that states urinary issues. My dad was having chest pain as well and could have had a stroke or heart attack! This is not a good place. run for your dear life!!! read more

Drove 30 minutes to come here and they required 2 forms of identification so I left to go grab a different form of identification another 30 minutes away and came back and they had stopped taking patients an hour before they close. Do not go here. Date of visit: December 30, 2022 at about 4pm. Lifespan Walk In Clinic in Middletown RI The gatekeeper at front desk has a heart of stone. I ran in looking for my missing 90 yo father. All I wanted to know was had anyone seen him? He still drives and I thought maybe he drove to get medical attention ( adding to my worries). Gatekeeper didn't listen to anything I said or gave a crap about the frantic look on my face. The customer she was already helping even turned around to give me a compassionate bashful look. Why couldn't she have just shown a tiny iota of compassion? No she just launched into her HIPAA screed. I wasn't asking if he was receiving medical care, I asked if she had SEEN my sick 90 yo father. Sheesh. So I left. I then called the clinic phone, hoping to speak with someone more helpful. My first call was "disconnected" second call I was put immediately on hold then transferred to manager without asking what I was calling about. The manager didn't listen to my concerns, only gave the HIPAA spiel and ignored the fact that I was clearly frantic and worried about where my dad could be. Frustrated by the brick wall, I admit that I hung upon her. At this point I had been searching for 45 minutes and getting ready to call the police but thought maybe I'd check a few other places (CVS, Shaws, Aldi's, Stop and Shop, Walmart) . Dad uses a handicap parking hang tag so I checked these spots without success. As a last resort, I called Newport Hospital emergency room and spoke with a very kind man named Adam. He heard the rising panic in my voice asked me what was wrong, checked around The ER for my dad, and told me wasn't there. This is also a Lifespan facility but somehow he didn't think it was necessary to lecture me about procedures. He also offered to tell my dad to call me if he did show up at the ER. Oh, forgot to mention that my first call was to my dads GPs office. The were genuinely concerned, suggested I call the police and offered to call me back if he turned up at their offices. I eventually tracked down my dad who had returned home and was feverish and weak. Like a dumbass I brought him back to the walk in clinic in Middletown. FIRST words out of the gatekeepers mouth was " there's a four hour wait'. Not " oh I'm glad you found your dad" or even the simplest, "I'm sorry you're not feeling well" to my father. Only defensiveness about why she was obsessed with strict adherence to procedure. As far as I can tell, my original offense was the audacity of being frantic and hoping to get a quick answer and help instead of patiently waiting in line to ask a simple question. The thought of spending 4 hours in that cold, unfeeling Lifespan Walk in clinic in Middletown RI, a place bereft of kindness or compassion, as not appealing to either me or my dad. Truth in advertising: They need to remove the name URGENT CARE from their frontage. This is clearly not the case. So now my dad and I are patiently waiting at the Newport hospital Emergency Department. I would rather wait 8 hours here than spend even 15 minutes in the Middletown clinic. If you really enjoy healthcare gatekeepers and managers who are devoted to procedures but fail to show a scintilla of compassion or care for their clients (even those clearly frantically looking for a missing lived one) then the Lifespan walk in clinic in Middletown RI is the place for you. The place is terrible. I took my mom with acute ear pain, sore throat that keeps her up at night and lasts for few weeks already. NP didn't check her ears or looked at her throat or listen to her lungs. I paid $150 out of pocket for a visit. They did a swop fro strep- it was negative and checked her vitals- they're were good. Nothing else!! NP sent us to ER because she said her chest hurts after coughing. She started new symptoms 3 days ago, but he didn't check her breathing, didn't looked at her ears- nothing! When I asked to check her ears because this was the main reason we were there- he refused saying that he closed his case by referring us to ER and we would need to pay again and wait to be seen even though we were in the office! Came here for what I assumed to be a sinus infection that wouldn't go away. The receptionist and medical assistant were professional and helpful, and were the only good parts of the visit. Wait time was about normal for an urgent care (about an hour to be seen). The real issue is that the provider came into the room and it was clear she was trying to get through patients as quickly as possible. She was talking a mile a minute, didn't even ask about symptoms, and just said "it's viral go get some fluids". I had to ask myself "do you think it's a sinus infection? Or something else" to which she said it sounds like it and then tried to leave the room. I mean if I wanted someone to just take a wild guess with no actual exam I could have done that myself.. Then, when I asked about stronger meds since I will be going out of the country in a few days, she was very unwilling to even consider medicine. She explained (rudely and in a rush) about why they don't give antibiotics for sinus infections - which I'm both fine with and understand - but then suggested maybe we go to a pharmacy in Mexico to get unregulated Amoxicillin if we were dead set on it?? Anyway. Total waste of $70 to get told to rest by someone who clearly had a patient quota to fill. read more

I had an excellent experience here yesterday. We arrived checked in I was immediately shown to a room. My care began immediately efficiently and kindly. They brought in a portable x-ray machine to x-ray my ankle. Everything was done thoroughly and with care and attention to my comfort. I thoroughly recommend this clean Hi-Tech and well-staffed urgent Care center. read more

My 9 year old son told me at 7:30 pm tonight that his throat was really hurting him. He was in tears saying it hurt that badly. I looked online and saw that the Middletown Lifespan Urgent care was open until 8pm. I quickly got him in the car and got him inside the urgent care at 7:43pm. Only to be told that they stopped accepting patients at 7:15pm. The hours on the door said they were open until 8pm. I explained that my son was in a lot of pain, he was still fighting tears at this point and asked for a quick strep test. There was no one else in the lobby waiting. The receptionist checked with the provider and the provider refused to see him. I asked again for a quick strep test explaining he was a sick 9 year old boy. We were told instead to go to the emergency room. Which is a completely inappropriate suggestion and use of medical resources for a strep throat concern. Why is the office listed as being open until 8:00pm if no one is allowed entrance after 7:15pm? I also believe that this was a disgusting way to treat a sick child. read more

I went this Sunday the line took me and hour and 30 minutes just to meet with an inexperience doctor who came in two different times which took about 45 minutes just to tell me I have mono. She never looked down my throat nor did she care about most of my symptoms. Maybe I just had a bad experience, but I would recommend not going. FIND ANOTHER LOCATION! read more

I have been here a few times in the past year. Each time, the receptionist is nice, the waiting area is clean, and the wait wasn't too long. I always call them first and ask how busy they are, and the best time to come in. The visits are not life threatening, so an hour or two isn't going to make a huge difference. If it was an emergency I WOULD CALL 911, AND GO TO THE HOSPITAL. They can only do so much here, if you're having chest pains, or anything severe, this is not the place for you. read more

I came in for shortness of breath due to COVID and wanted to be evaluated. I paid my copayment and was told to wait in the car.....no problem here. They just forgot to mention that it was going to be a 3 hour wait. The person I spoke to made it sound as if they're running a non-profit care center. Lifespan Urgent Care is horrible. read more

I was prompted to go by a severe cough related to chronic bronchitis and sinusitis compounded by a broken, infected tooth. In other words, lots of bacteria. So, I made an appointment and when i got there, they took me straight back. Then they start asking me entire medical history but, the thing is, I pre-filled out everything before i got there. Why have a patient spend all that time filling records out to just ask the same questions all over again? The provider then comes in and it is not a Doctor. She orders a chest X-ray after talking to me for 30 seconds. X-ray tech was great. Then, they can't get a radiologist to read it in a timely manner. Finally, it comes back unremarkable with no abnormalities. 30 second lady comes back with paperwork and it says if breathing gets more difficult, go to emergency room. Really? No antibiotics? Then she says i need to go to emergency room directly due to elevated heartbeat. Didn't make any sense so i said that i would take it under advisement. She says okay and that i need to sign something. The something is an AMA form since I won't commit, to her level of comfort, to driving myself straight over to the hospital. Now, if it was a true emergency, i am thinking there might be an ambulance involved not drive yourself over to hospital emergency room. Do yourself a favor and go anywhere but this place unless you really want to waste your time and money. I would have been better off seeing a witch doctor. read more
