I sent out something asking for a quote to increase my lighting around my bushes and trees in the front and backyard. They gave me a guesstimate that I was OK with and was going to have them come out and give me a concrete quote. They wanted my address which I gave them and next thing you know I get another quote for something I did not need or ask for at what I would say is a ridiculously high price. I am posting this from a separate Yelp account because the contractor has my name and address, and I prefer not to risk any potential retaliation. I am making this report with no emotion and no judgment or opinions, only the facts I experienced. Kirk was responsive and quick to return calls and messages. However, I did not proceed with hiring him and did not pay the requested deposit for several reasons. I was unable to locate any active contractor or electrician license under either his name or his company in the state of California. In comparison, other companies I contacted for the same service provided valid contractor and/or electrician license information. The other companies I obtained quotes from also had as many, if not more, positive reviews on Google and Yelp. I am not naming those companies, as this is not intended to promote them but to document my experience with this one. Kirk quoted between $8 and $10 per foot for bistro lighting installation. Other companies quoted approximately $6 per foot for similar work. Additionally, the design he proposed included a longer run of lighting than what other companies recommended. When I shared his design with others, they indicated the length was unnecessary and would produce excessive lighting. Kirk stated that the bistro lights used were sourced from Costco, which has its own return and exchange policy. However, his workmanship warranty was limited to 30 days. After that period, he indicated a service fee between $150-$200 would apply for any fixes. Other companies I contacted offered longer warranties, including one year and up to two years covering both labor and materials. Other providers also included additional features such as phone-controlled dimmers at no extra cost, which was not part of Kirk's proposal. During the process, Kirk asked about scheduling and requested a deposit before I had confirmed any intent to move forward. Summary of factors: * No verifiable California contractor or electrician license found. * Higher cost per foot compared to other quotes. * Proposed longer lighting layout than other providers recommended. * 30-day warranty with $150-$200 service fee thereafter, compared to longer warranties offered elsewhere. After three months, 3 out of the 8 landscape lighting that Kirk installed stopped working. Life was a little crazy at the time, but I contacted him eight months after the initial installation notifying him of the problems we were seeing with the lights, and he said he only guarantees his work for one month, and he would not be able to come fix his work. His reasoning was, "Sometimes Gardners cut the lines", which was not the case in my home, since no Gardner works in the area where the lights were installed. Instead, he said it would cost $150 just for him to come out and look at it. It must be noted that we had paid him $4,500 to work on our house. And with that came 0 accountability for the work that he did just months later. We are quite sad and disappointed with his work. Among all the renovations/updates we have made to our house over the past 15 years, this is the first time we have been let down in this way. Usually, contractors guarantee their work for at least a year, and most usually come out even past that if there is a genuine problem with their work (i.e. not normal wear and tear). If not to fix it, they at least come diagnose the problem free of charge... There is no way I am paying him the $150 to come and fix his broken work. I will have to hire another electrician to come and diagnose/fix his work. Very disappointing. Initially, we were satisfied with his work. He followed our design and was able to install the lights as expected. He was also very responsive and friendly-- we trusted him and his work based on our conversations. But once the lights stopped working, one after another, we started noticing his sloppy work. We noticed that instead of burying the electrical wires under the ground, they were just laying out in the open in many places. The landscape lighting were not aligned to one another. In one place, he used a light with a way higher wattage than required, which was blinding. Unprofessional. Lacking attention to detail at times. When landscape lighting is done correctly, it just looks good. It blends in with the environment and no one notices it-- people just notice that the house looks luxurious. With Kirk's work, that's just missing... Somethings just off. Its sloppy. This has been my family's experience. Take it for what its worth. read more

My Costco lights lasted 8 years and I've only have one go out-Kirk's didn't even last 8 months and they were supposedly the best quality. This company has scammed us and now wants to charge us $200 more-to come out to the faulty products that they use. I've always wanted string lights in our backyard because it gets extremely dark and so for my birthday, my husband hired Kirk and his team to install lights. After only a month about 5 bulbs went out. Then more and more then one whole string of the seven strings. We now have about 1/5 of the lights that are not working -a whole string of lights that is out plus an additional 40+ bulbs. We spent almost 2k on this service because Kirk said they would last 10 years. I am utterly shocked by how Kirk chose to deal with this by asking for more money. Such a disingenuous business model. We hired Kirk despite his company being one of the pricier companies. We were upsold having light put on our back house and garage and it looked beautiful for about 1 month (conveniently he only offered a one month guarantee) but mention MANY times how they should last 10 years. You are falsely promised quality then gaslit into paying more money to fix what conveniently breaks after the warranty is up. There is no way not to be upset at this. Unacceptable. read more
