I found my way to an Eastern Orthodox Church in the mid 90s. Prior to that, I attended a…read morenondenominational Church for a few years; a Baptist Church as a teenager and Roman Catholic Churches growing up in the Philippines. The yearning for a quieter, more reverent kind of worship led me to different congregations but I found my HOME when I attended my first Eastern Orthodox liturgy. I love the Eucharistic prayers and have come to appreciate and understand the place of icons and the Sacraments in the One, Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church. I started attending Sts Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in the summer of 2022 after a long absence (from any Orthodox Church) for personal reasons. I was welcomed warmly especially by Father Ninos and given warm hugs by the lovely women of the Church. The Liturgy lasts an hour and a half and the congregation stands majority of the time. The hymns are a combination of English and Greek; this worship form that has been in place since the 9th century (with hymns and prayers from as early as the 4th century) is vastly different from what I experienced in nondenominational or even Roman Catholic churches.... but it definitely became more meaningful to me when I participated actively in singing, praying or following along in the Liturgy book provided. The feeling that we are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses- Saints, heroes, martyrs and warriors of the faith, Apostles, people who ate with and followed Jesus during His time on earth, and angelic beings- becomes real through the help of the iconography on the walls and especially in the iconostasis at the front of the church. If your heart is aching for a connection to the Divine and would like to experience worship that has been in place for centuries- but still speaks to the 21st century soul and spirit- visit Sts Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church on the corner of Amador and Alabama Streets in Vallejo. They have a designated coffee hour after the liturgy (service) where you really get to meet end mingle with everyone. Overall experience was outstanding. Eye opening to say the least. And "Greek Orthodox" simply implies the language parts of the service are in. You definitely do not have to be Greek to attend God bless !

A beautiful church with many pews but only one real bathroom to use…read more I went here for a funeral mass for an aunt. We used a smaller room in the church that hosted about 30 of us to celebrate her life. I always find it odd to be surrounded by so much craftsmanship and wealth in edifice and artifacts and yet the actions of those who work here are so austere. It sometimes is a contradiction in itself as I would like to see less trinkets and more good done for the community it serves. The priest was nice enough who lead us through the service. He had a good sense of humor and balance both the sadness and the joy she brought into the world. He also keep the service relatively short as masses go, which helped. If you're looking just to admire beautiful stand glass windows, take a moment for personal prayer, or attend a service, come take a gander. It is worth a one time exploration if not from the area. If you live by this place and are of the Catholic faith, it might be worth joining in the masses and activities that go on here.

He manages to keep the mass and the Gospel sounding interesting and from the heart, which is very important, I feel, for all the parishioners to stay interested and actually listen to what is being taught. After moving to the area, I had been attended all the Catholic Churches in the area to see which community I wanted to become a part of, and St. Basil, the last one I checked out, has seemed to finally hit the mark. The church itself is beautiful, the community is friendly and welcoming, and I feel a good sense of spirit within the confines of this church. Yes, the neighborhood is not in the best area of town, but it isn't the worst. The church feels safe and I truly feel the spirit of God here. I will say, that I find it to be very distant and cold that no one shakes hands anymore when sharing the sign of peace, but I guess that is how many churches are going now. The little head nod just seems to be so impersonal, and I wish that St. Basil would encourage their parishioners to welcome each other with open arms. There is a good amount of diversity who attend mass at this church, but I will say that the majority of the parish seems to be Filipino. But then, we are in Vallejo and there is a huge Filipino community here, who of course are majority Catholic. Overall, I would recommend anyone looking for a Catholic church to come check this one out. I appreciate that there is a 5:30pm mass on Sundays. I wish there was an even later one. Where I use to attend mass, we would have an 8:00pm and a 10:00pm mass on Sundays. This ensured that everyone could attend Sunday mass regardless of the time of day. I know we are suppose to honor and worship God on our own accord and He is to be our first priority, but I also feel that some people need the additional assistance to lead them to the Lord, and by having the extra mass times, it would allow people the opportunity to receive the added blessings if they were not able to attend earlier in the day, but that's just a thought.

I love how they've helped my family and I get closer to Jesus as well as to each other!! It's a very diverse and "come as you are" church. When I first came, I was fairly new to the area having moved so far from my family and my old church home, so I didn't really know anybody. I had attended a couple churches before I found Experience church, and when I first attended, I knew this church was special. Everyone was friendly, inviting, and genuinely interested in me and invested in my growth. I can be myself here and I have come to call Experience not just my church, but my family. I love the vision, their love for God, their love for the church, and just the atmosphere and culture they have created. God's presence is felt, I've found healing here, I've found community, and I've found freedom here. To sum it up in one sentence, Experience is a church full of love.

We showed up for the meditation at 10:20 am on Sunday, met a few practitioners and members, and stayed for the service from 11 am to about 12:30. While Rev. D. Jacquelyn Edwards came across as a little low-key, she told us just exactly what we needed to hear. I especially liked her summary of the Visioning Process, a very timely message for us. The guitar ensemble was on point as well. There was a pot-luck luncheon after the service, where we were able to meet and make friends with members of the congregation, Established in 1952 and chartered by Ernest Holmes in 1954, it may appear that some of the founders are still attending, and they own their building. So if you want to see what it takes to live long and prosper, this is it.
