I will definitely say though, their punk and metal selection is the highlight. I've been able to find artists as popular as Motörhead and as indie as Judas Iscariot. Prices are great, and more importantly - not everything is sealed new. Obviously most record stores have bargain bins, but Standards is also not limited to stuff you'd find collecting dust in your grandparent's attic (newer record stores in San Diego, take notes.) Service is great, the store always has a tight but warm ambiance - and I'm always running back to buy more records every couple weeks if that says anything.

They are located in Downtown Escondido. Street parking is available but plan ahead on busy weekends. We first heard about them when they hosted a Bruno Mars The Romantic listening party. It was a chill time and the folks that run this business are the sweetest. We chatted with them for a bit, asked how long they've been in business and how just general conversation. What I appreciated was the eclectic variety of albums available...even some difficult to find Filipino albums. Loved the representation. There were plenty of rare finds as well as current music. They also have merch for sale so I picked up a Track City tote bag to take home since they didn't have my size in some of their t-shirts. Please support small businesses like this one. At the end of the album they did a raffle for a free Bruno mars shirt. We didn't win, but it was an interesting event. The record store has a bunch of records and some record players. It was a small shop, but it fit quite a lot of people for the event.

Old school, but old and new music is available and if you are looking for something, they may hold it or order it for you. For those of us who grew up in the 80's and 90's, we saw vinyl die and come alive again. It is still my preference for music at home and it is an extra plus if the lp also had the downloadable device option. Every year I attempt to head out to Record Store Day (RSD). My goal is to pick up unique items that have never been released, but more than anything, those 80's and 90's albums that were only made on CD. After a three hour wait in line this year, with only 380 different releases and only 3000 stores in the country with offerings, I came home with everything on my list, but one item out of stock. A total win. Five stars for variety and good set up outside to make shopping effiient. Last Saturday, I visited Lou's Records with the hope of selling an album to Dillon, son of the new…read moreowner. I had recently purchased a sealed copy of the Rolling Stones- Some Girls in Los Angeles. I paid good money for the original 2nd press. Foolishly I left my vinyl with Dillon a little too long, while perusing the store for possible purchases. After about 10 minutes, I ask the woman at the counter, why he was gone so long? She walked into the back of the store to retrieve Dillon. Upon returning, he exclaimed that 'there were thousands of variations to the record, and a guy was on his way to verify the value. Long story short, the expert never arrived, I bought a couple of records, some cleaner and was on my way. I had brought the vinyl into Lou's in a paper record bag. Dillon slipped my record back in the bag, and handed it to me as I made other purchases. I didn't inspect my record until the next day. Upon closer inspection, I noticed that the seal was looking a little loose. I texted the man, who I bought the record from in July, on my birthday. He said, the seal was not in that condition when he sold it to me. Moral of the story, I called to speak with Lou, he was not in and I received a call back from the shop. I was busy doing laundry last Sunday, and missed the call. I called the store back, and guess who answered, Dillon? He acted like he knew nothing about the deceitful actions of his unscrupulous behavior! He completely denied any tampering with my Rolling Stones-Some Girls vinyl. Beware, this is scandalous and preposterous for a record store like Lou's or any other to pull this kind of bulloney. If you want to sell, trade or do any other business here.... BEWARE!!!

Not totally obvious there's a store there as it's all residential but you can't miss it as the street dead ends only a few yards away. Small curated selection of reasonably-priced 70s-late 80's classic rock, some jazz and a tiny but well appointed 80's new wave section. Had to pick up General Public, Suzanne Vega, The Three O'Clock and Rob Zombie! Mike the owner was super friendly and had a real presence in the community with lots of locals stopping by to chat. Definitely a landmark spot in the area. If you're new to vinyl and filling in the essentials, be sure to check out the Lovebus on your next crate dig journey.

They have vinyl, of course, and almost more used CDs than I have seen anywhere else in San Diego County. I know I am dating myself when I say I am more of a CD person but the selection was outstanding and the price ($5 per CD unless marked otherwise) was very reasonable. I would say the vinyl prices are pretty much on par with what you see elsewhere. They even have tapes and, while I lived through the tape era, you could not get my to buy one for any price. Plus, who has a tape player? They were playing outstanding music throughout our visit. I felt like I was at a concert. I can see myself coming back here with some frequency. I easily spent an hour browsing and had a good time doing so.

There were many people pouring in when we arrived. At the door was a picture of what colored tags were discounted for the day. And inside, a sign that says it's cash only. It's a well-organized thrift store with a lot of shopping baskets and carts as soon as you enter. It's clean and all the clothing on the racks are separated by categories and by the color of clothing, but not by size which is challenging. The pricing on clothing was so varied with big gaps. From $1.99 to $25 and maybe more? There were a good selection of many other items like scooters, bikes, fans, dining chairs etc. At checkout, another sign that the customer needs to take the hangers off before heading to the register. The line wasn't too long and it went pretty fast. The lady at the register was super nice and friendly. We totally scored some clothes for the grandkids and for hubby. Got some ramekins and a wooden storage bench too. We're adding this place to our list of go-to thrift stores.
