I can't speak about the services offered because my appointment changed so often that I never actually was able to be seen before I cancelled. But here is the rundown... Call on 9/24 for an appointment, get it scheduled for 10/10. Get a call on 10/4 to reschedule.. sure whatever. Get scheduled for 10/24. Get another call on 10/14 to reschedule my 10/31 appointment... nope, don't have an appointment at that time. Get it all figured out and my 10/24 appointment is still set. Get a voicemail today to confirm my 10/28 appointment at Mission location when everything up until now was at the Holmes location. So I guess if you are mentally stable enough to handle being tossed around like a tin can in a game of street hockey then have a go. read more

I was so excited to move back to Kansas City and start this program. I had hoped it would be a positive experience and give me the tools I need to address some challenges that I have, unfortunately it was NOTHING like the website would lead you to believe. I received no return calls. I was never set up with an individual therapist. There was no explanation of how the group worked or what I needed to participate. When I went into my first group session I felt very confused as to what was happening and felt very out of place/unwelcome. Besides offering no explanation of the expectations or tools needed, Debra began working from the workbook with those individuals who had it, not offering even a copy or mention of the title. It took another newbie saying we can't participate as we don't have the information to do what you're asking us to do, to motivate her enough to stop and make us a copy. Prior to that she said she would give us a copy of the sheet they were working on at the end. When the group was over I asked to speak to her to let her know I still needed an individual therapist, but she kept offering me daytime appointments despite the fact I kept telling her I work. Finally she explained to me there wasn't anyone available for an evening appointment, and made me an appointment with her for a date about a month or so out to "allow me time to work it out" even though my schedule was not going to magically change. Additionally, she would be the last person I would want to see because of my experience with the group as well as the fact she can't be bothered to return a call. I finished my evening by being told I would need to pay out of pocket and then file for reimbursement with my insurance because they were having issues with the insurance company paying them-- which was complete b.s. Then she turned around and said she never said that! Even after all this chaos I tried to be rational and say to myself that maybe it was just a fluke and I that I needed to try a different group so I reached out to the Director who did my intake to ask about others and tell her what had happen. I had to leave a voicemail, and imagine my surprise when it wasn't her but Debra who called me back, at which point I forced myself to address all the things that had occurred that has resulted in my feeling the way I did. To add to the insult she responded with a single word-"interesting." I have now started another program approximately six months after the fact, at The Center for Healing and Recovery, and I can not say enough good things. There was explanation and order. I felt prepared and welcomed and I feel hopeful about the future and the progress I can make. The only downfall is there was and still is a wait to get in, but it's worth it! read more

I loved my therapist but she stopped taking insurance. I went to Lilac Center to find a therapist covered by my insurance, which I was very clear about. Instead I was assigned to someone that cost even more than the one I adored! They take your credit card up front so they billed me. It took me several months to even get a copy of my statement to see what I had been billed for! read more

Life saving therapy. First time in my life that I can trust my therapist to have my best interest and to keep pushing me even when it is hard. DBT is hard, it's very uncomfortable at first, but it does amazing work. I have been going to Lilac for 3 years and it has saved my life. You have to put in the work and you have to deal with being uncomfortable, until you break through that wall, and these therapists are so skilled and knowledgeable to help you make those important breakthroughs. I am so grateful that I live in a city that has a place that specializes in DBT. Debra, Dr. Trueblood, and group therapy, saved my life. read more

Brought our daughter in and participated in their Intense Outpatient Treatment (IOP) program which was nine hours per week for about six weeks. Made things worse. No individualized counseling was provided and my daughter ended up being taken in a squad car in handcuffs from our home to the behavioral health section of Shawnee Mission Health and ultimately ended up spending a week at a mental hospital in town. She is not DBT and they didn't pick up on this. Just pushed her into this program. She started to emulate other dysfunctional behavior after attending these group sessions. Nicole Singer did not disclose they were out of network for insurance but did charge me in full for one individual apptmnt I requested because it was same day of an IOP session. That was five months ago and I am still getting bills from them randomly that I can't access electronically. read more

It's hard to find a good therapist. But I have never experienced the level of laziness and/or apathy that I experienced here. I am not happy. I went to the initial appointment which I found a COMPLETE waste of time. I waited for about 45 minutes to even see Debra. I only went to my assigned therapist twice. (So total 3 experiences with Lilac Center). My assigned therapist (not Debra) was messy, unorganized, and unprofessional. She wasted about 20 minutes of our time trying to schedule the next appointment, 10 minutes searching for a dot-to-dot and not really engaged with me or anything I had to say. She also showed a Star Wars YouTube video about meditation. Absolute waste of time and money. She didn't even remember what we talked about in our first session. She had me mixed up with someone else. It was just very frustrated. Maybe it was a personality clash, but I would not recommend Lilac Center to anyone. read more

I used to go to the lilac center location in the downtown Quality Hill area in kcmo.. the counselors I saw were Valerie and Leah.. My ex fiancé and my last therapist gaslighted me! I've since fired her and have a new therapist now who is wonderful.. yet I'm still mad about this! She never once said what he was doing was abuse.. she and the relationship counselor we had seen and heard with their own ears his rage, how he invalidated my feelings, didn't listen to me, was incapable of self reflection, was disrespectful to me and wouldn't let me talk.. he triangulated the relationship counselor so when I brought up an issue all that was addressed was my reaction.. never his abuse! I was encouraged by my therapist to stay with him, not to 'diagnose' him as a narcissist even though I'd been researching and learning about narc abuse for quite some time before that.. was told how I should act and never told I should leave even after I told her he hit me.. even after a long period of time when I had stopped seeing her and went back to her after I'd left him she was surprised as to why I would leave him!! I fired her by text message in June and finally have someone who believes me now.. the goal of therapy should never be helping someone to adjust to oppression! read more
