    It's a menu!

I've been excited to try this place for awhile since everyone is raving about it. I was fighting the same feeling I had when I went to Flippin' for the first time: this is going to be over-rated, but like my experience there I was ready to be surprised. But any burger joint in Stockholm has to stand in the shadow of the giant, so in reality this is a vs. Flippin' review (with a caveat in the end). I told them it was my first time there and asked what I should judge them on and they said the original burger. Good that you can stand behind something that's no frills -- they must be proud of the taste of their meat. It's "all Swedish meat" but she couldn't say where from exactly. They do work the meat in-house themselves, which is good! I went with a double patty because I really wanted to compare this place to Flippin' and try and find a comparable experience. Knowing what I know now, that was probably a mistake -- more later. At first I really appreciated the taste of the burger! I could instantly tell the meat wasn't as good as Flippin' (which literally melts in your mouth) but I liked the taste in general and there was something a bit salty to it which struck a positive note. I thought definitely a 4 star burger. But as the meal wore on, I found myself enjoying it less and less and finding the taste really plain and backyard-ish. I had a similar experience at Oljebaron. The bread was in the style of Flippin' but not quite there. I did really enjoy the presence of diced pickles! The fries were completely average pub fries for me. I've heard people say the same about Flippin', which I disagree with, but I don't think there is room for argument about these ones. The milkshakes are REALLY thick. I got the Oreo which the hostess said was the lightest of the "special shakes" which she recommended over the others and my friend got the chocolate and something or rather and also commented about how thick it was. I don't think this is a shake destination, BUT I said the same thing at Flippin' before I found the Strawberry Cheesecake. In summary and in my opinion, the base of this burger joint is really a follow the leader story. I know the burger emits American dreams but this place is a very similar diner feel to Flippin' with American "road trip" pictures covering the walls. The quality of the meat is less BUT I have been to Flippin' on off nights and know they don't always reach the gold standard either. If there had been just a few more things going right here it could have tipped the scales: if the fries were better, the buns, the milkshakes, an excited hostess who wanted to share the story with me, if it were Summer and I had just spent the day by the water...And to top it off it's definitely more expensive than Flippin'. But why? I'll admit one thing I messed up: I should have got a original burger and "pimped it out" (their words) with the add-on toppings, or gone with one of their in-house styles. That's where I would guess the best experience is here, and then it might be a better one. I would return and get one of their styled burgers, fries, and a beer on a warm Summer day. But not for the quality of the burger or anything else unique about Lily's. It's a great asset to Hornsbergs Strand, and a good option. But vs Flippin'? Loss by TKO.

Best burgers I've had in Stockholm. Nice selection of beers and a cool diner type atmosphere.

As a guy who spends weekend smoking brisket and pork butts, getting BBQ out is usually disappointing in the states, let alone Sweden. I was either very homesick or super curious about what Swedish BBQ would be like. In hindsight it was a little of both. Ordered a cocktail and the BBQ sampler. Cocktail was fine. The menu is littered with sweet cocktails like many restaurants. Was hoping for something boozy but that's not to be found. The sampler was good overall. Portions were sufficient but certainly small by American standards. Not sure that's the appropriate frame of reference but it is smaller. Highlights/ Lowlights - let's start with the key differentiator of good BBQ, brisket. The brisket had good bark and was smokey but no smoke ring makes me think it was liquid smoke. It was cooked well but a cardinal sin was committed. The brisket was cut in the wrong direction making it stringy. - variety of sides and veggies were nice. Pickled items were good. Potato salad was unevenly cooked. - cornbread tasted good but fell apart in the hand -BBQ sauce and chipotle sauce were nice. BBQ didn't quite fall into Texas or KC style. It was thick but had a sweet and sour taste. Not bad but not Texas. - ribs were rough. Short little ribs that were over cooked. They weren't baby back. Just the small end of spare ribs. Or maybe they were cut. - fried chicken was good. It was thigh meat cut away from the bone. Tasted good but if you're looking for a traditional fried chicken, you'll be disappointed. - sausage was actually the highlight of the whole meal. It had a crispy skin and good flavor. Was almost like a Chinese sausage. All in all a good experience. Not the best BBQ in the world but certainly good for being in a Nordic country. Would recommend it if you keep and open mind about where you are.

This bar/restaurant offered me a small piece of Austin during my travels. I can say I didn't eat here because I typically avoid American dining while traveling aboard. My husband and I did, however, enjoy a drink so we could take in the Austin scenery. My husband ordered a Texas Amber beer and I ordered a local cider. Overall a cool place and would recommend all to check it out.

Especially if you're in the mood for steak. They have everything from a "ladies" (200g) to a "Bigass"(500g) entrecôte, New york cut Striploin in various sizes, lamb, surf & turf and whole lobster tail. Along with variations of hamburgers, ribs, chili, nachos, and fajitas .. something for everyone. My absolute favourite dish is the "Texas Chili", it's unbeatable. It's a traditional chili, served with salsa, guacamole, sour cream, black beans and wheat tortilla bread. The "Ugly American" is the only burger I've tried, it's a 220 g hamburger with bacon, served with coleslaw, chipotle drip and fries. You're absolutely stuffed when you've finished your meal. In Sundbyberg the restaurant is newly renovated, they have changed the decor on the walls and repainted, while also adding some tables by the bar. You cannot reserve a table though, but the wait is usually not that bad. It's a small restaurant so choose your seating wisely if you can. We sat right next to the window, which can be nice in the winter time. But in the summer, with the sun blasting in, it was quite unbearable. Since the restaurant is so small, it gets very hot when all the grills are fired up in the back kitchen. I really like that all beer and soda comes in the chilled Texas Longhorn glasses, and that the staff is nice and friendly. Definitely a place to visit, again and again.
