Previously i acquired my orthotics from one of their competitors but for some odd reason my pain never got better rather it regressed to a much worse state. After months of wobbling and barely walking I made an appoint with Dr. Varca at the VA whom is the best podiatrist working at the VA. Despite his inability to teller where to go he was able to recommend this clinic tucked in the basement of what appears to be the Duke chapel. This gem is literally hard to find because it hides in an offshoot of the roundabout that if one was not looking they would miss their turn. Now if you struggle opening doors hit the handicap button because their door is quiet heavy. Once you enter one of the super nice ladies will ask you to sign in and have a seat. What is even more awesome is they have an fantastic memory and remember your name without looking at the cheat sheet. Great job to all of the staff

The only problem was it was a Saturday and they were closed until the following Monday. Somehow my dad got in touch with the owner Mr. O'Reilly and he offered to go to the store, pick up the orthopedic boot, and drop it off at my fiance's hotel. To top it off-- he would not accept any payment. It is the kindness of strangers sometimes that keeps the world going. ONE STAR -- WOULD GIVE ZERO IF I COULD Avoid EMERGORTHO at…read moreall costs -- especially if you're truly in pain or need compassion. I was referred to EmergoOrtho by a fill-in PCP due to a herniated disc compressing nerve roots. I already had an MRI before the appointment but was never told I needed to bring the images. When I arrived, they said they could access them. I paid a $50 copay, only to be told I needed another X-ray. The doctor came in for barely two minutes, said a steroid shot would be faster than a pack, then immediately left. I was told it needed to be scheduled and would take about a week. Meanwhile, I was told to just take Tramadol and do PT. No one followed up. I had to call them. Eventually, they set the appointment for August 5 -- nearly two weeks after my first visit. I took time off work, and had my wife do the same to drive me. But on August 4 at 3:30 PM, I got a call from Ruby saying they needed the MRI images. I asked why, since they claimed to have them last time and even did a new X-ray. She said she'd check. 20 minutes later, she called back and said they couldn't get the images from radiology and would have to cancel my appointment. Cancel -- after all that pain, waiting, time off, and insurance approval. I asked why the appointment was canceled when it was scheduled for the next day and I had done everything on my end. She was completely indifferent. I personally called the radiology provider and got through right away. They sent the images and I also drove to pick up a CD copy just in case. I called EmergoOrtho back immediately asking not to cancel my appointment. I was told Ruby was the only one who could help me. The woman said she'd have Ruby call me back that day. It's now 8:30 PM and still no call. Let me be clear -- I am a disabled veteran, in constant pain, with numb, burning fingers, unable to sleep or function properly. I served this country, and this is the level of care and compassion I get? You all should be ashamed. You clearly do not care about patients -- only copays and procedures. You dragged me through weeks of appointments, calls, and chaos, only to leave me in pain and cancel without cause. This will be the last orthopedic group I ever deal with. I wouldn't send my worst enemy here. You failed me. You failed your duty. Close the doors.

I really USE Yelp reviews and read them carefully because I really want to know WHY you like a doctor (it is just cuz you think he has "dreamy blue eyes" or is it more?) SO...HERE'S WHY I LIKE DR HILL: 1. I'm 67, fit, active -- walker, runner (not "serious" -- walk/run 2-3 miles 4-6x a week -- swimmer in summer and Fuel Fitness). I have hard plastic orthotics that I've worn for THIRTY YEARS. I assumed, when I first visited Dr. Hill, that my feet have changed over the past 30 (!) years and the orthotics would need to be replaced (not cheap, totally necessary). In other words, 30-yr old orthotics were an engraved invitation to "sell me" new orthotics. Dr. Hill held them to the bottom of my feet and said "well, these still look fine..." I'm not an untrusting person -- but THAT inspired trust! 2. She is a real "problem solver." She doesn't just reach up to her mental shelf and pull off a pre-formulated answer. She really listens and THINKS. And she's very clear, plain-spoken and practical. I have spent $2500 out of pocket (after insurance payments) trying to find out what is causing pain in my right ankle and base of my toes on right foot. 3 x-rays. 3 visits to EmergeOrtho (I could write an essay -- but let me just say I will NEVER EVER return to them -- waste of money. One doctor would contradict the next!) Visited Duke Sports -- and 3 Physical Therapy visits, who said it was tendonitis and only PT exercises would help, over a long time. Exercises DID seem to help -- but still definitely "something not right" and I've been scared to run and scared to do a lot of walking for fear I might cause some kind of real damage. 3. Dr. Hill heard my tale...took xrays. Said "I think what's going on here is complex." Said legs are likely aching due to: 1. my venous insufficiency (wear those compressions socks!). 2. Looks like I don't put the normal amount of pressure on my big toe -- causing the 2 next to it to be bearing more -- getting sore. 3. The two toes next to my big toe slant a bit towards the bit toe. Narrows the gap between the bones on both those toes, possibly somewhat pinching all the things that run between those bones. Said the hard plastic orthotics can sometimes cause an issue -- so go to a store and buy some insoles with heel cups (those were $10 -- so NOT a huge expense). Said to be better about wearing compression sock. When I said "so...why does the middle toe on my right foot stick up like that when I try to curl my toes? Still doing that after a year -- what's causing it?" She said "I have no idea. See? No b.s. -- Just one more reason why I like her. :-)

Dr Hill permanently ruined my toenails with a simple ingrown toenail procedure. On top of that, she did the procedure to both toenails, even though only one needed the work. Why? Perhaps because she is a sadist. That was the vibe I was getting. Incredibly rude, dedicated to my pain. She shouldn't be a doctor.
