I came here with a friend around 8 pm and the place was empty. But the ratings were good so we walked in. I ordered shrimp tempura and shrimp fried rice. The tempura felt like it was friend a bit too long. The shrimp in the shrimp friend rice looked uncooked on the inside (transparent color). When I complained to our server there about the transparent inside part of the shrimp, he told me it was cooked perfectly and that's how shrimp is supposed to be cooked. This place was a shocking surprise, after living Olin the west for years, I have missed quality sushi. After a long stroll by the Doon Heritage Village .. Our next stop .. A Japanese restaurant , I've searched Yelp and this place reviews were all 5 star.. So I thought on going. As we came in the place was quiet and we were greeted by the owner Lin Hai and the husband Roy.. They were very excellent and efficient. The place is neat and cozy, very clean. The food .. I'm speechless.. Just from the starters the salad was amazing, the rolls and sushis are fulfilling as well as their Bento box was excellent. All their recipes are home made, prepared by the owner herself while waiting for your order. This place is indeed a 5 star. From a very pleasant owner to having a very sumptuous lunch and fun time with Fam. A place I would recommend and will find myself when I visit Canada. With reasonable price abc a parking lot.. Where do I begin? FIRST of all, this restaurant does not deserve such a high 4.5 yelp rating. I feel so misled! After shopping at Fairview Park Mall, we decided to check Yelp for what to eat in the area. This restaurant had so many raving reviews and such a high rating (and its sushi!), so we came here to eat. I'm not sure if this restaurant is seen as excellent because of the location (do they not have good sushi in Kitchener??), but comparing it to every other sushi restaurant I've eaten at in my life, this was definitely one of my least favourite experiences. They had quite a bit of takeout orders, so the restaurant is more of a locals favourite. My tip to uwaterloo/laurier students? Stay uptown or in Waterloo for sushi, no need to make the trip all the way down here. The sushi rolls were on par with T&T Supermarket/Loblaws but at restaurant prices. I actually had trouble eating some of the rolls because they were not very appetizing, which is rare for me since I LOVE sushi! This definitely was not a traditional Japanese restaurant. I almost didn't want to give this restaurant 5 stars because it's so good I want it all to myself. They've perfected every aspects of hospitality and restaurants, great service, competitive prices, and most importantly amazing food. My girlfriend chose this place for Valentine's Day. We both had never been before, but we both enjoy trying something new. We were so pleasantly impressed that it's our new "go to" sushi spot. The presentation of the rolls is almost as impressive as the way they taste. I can honestly say the best sushi I've ever had. I can't wait to try more of the menu and will definately be repeating. The restaurant itself is a bit small and decor is a bit unusual, but it doesn't matter it's that good. My wife and myself enjoyed the entire experience. The place is fairly small. Great to bring a date. The service was very proper and mannered. I enjoyed our server . . . although I was a bit shocked when I first walked in as I expected a Japanese person, and when it wasn't I thought I was in a west indies restaurant. The food was prepared fresh. Dumpling appetizers were bang on. The meal we got was great. Rice was tender, avocado tasted perfectly ripe, spices with the tempura shrimp was good and the dancing chocolate sundae was awesome. April 29th 2015. Went here for lunch. Drove 25 minutes across town due to good reviews and wanted to check it out. Upon arrival, the place was CLOSED at 12:40PM! Its lunch time! no sign on the door explaining why, but hours of operation says it should be open. (weds opens at 11 am apparently). Therefore, the breakdown of this review are as follows. Visited twice in the past two weeks. Excellent very fresh sushi at a great price. Large menu for the size of the restaurant. The friendly owners make all the sauces themselves. Takeout and event catering available. Seaweed salad is ample for sharing- served with mixed greens and cucumber/mango sticks with a delicious dressing. Try the caterpillar roll- best ever! Great quality food! I really can't understand the people who gave them a low rating. Top things to try would be the green dragon roll and my favourite, the seafood salad. The food is always fresh and very consistent. Both of the owners are normally in and provide exceptional service. Service is very personal. Food was good - sushi rolls were fresh made, 3.5/5. The tofu teriyaki is very good, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Recommend the wakame salad, very fresh and delicious. Ordered chicken ramen - it's not soup, just chicken and ramen noodles but still very good. Had a lovely lunch but probably will never eat there again. The owners were very pleasant and lovely and the decor seemed nice. There was however an incense stick burning when you walk in and it's a small restaurant and I found the smell too strong and overbearing, especially to eat around. The sushi itself was just ok and a little too salty without the soy sauce. It wasn't terrible but not the worst sushi out there. Wow.. This place is so underrated, it's not even funny.. Me being from Toronto city, I know high quality sushi when I find it and this is It! Others will swear by the other sushi places in Kitchener, Ontario, where it is considered 'fine dining sushi' but don't have *Soft Shell Crab* on the menu, is a joke. This is like the Only place in Kitchener, that offers Fresh Fish and Soft Shell Crab!!! It is a la carte and not all you can eat, but I always say Quality, over Quantity! The miso soup is not overly salty, like other places but instead Perfectly Balanced with Fresh ingredients! The owners are lovely people and the customer service is Fantanstic and the food is even Better. This is my new spot for sushi and I will be a Loyal customer. They definitely won me and I am extremely picky, especially when it comes to sushi. I highly recommend this place and I will be back again! I'd probably say, this is one of the best sushi restaurants, that I have ever been to and I only have a select few.. This one has been added to the list. Sadly, this was terrible food. I ignored the bad reviews and decided to keep an open mind. The fish quality wasn't horrible, but the rice and construction of the roles was crap. I've had better end-of-day mall sushi. Plus, we ordered an incredibly overpriced chicken teriyaki, which was tasteless and small. Go to any of the main All You Can Eats and you get better roles for a better price. I don't understand why the owner hasn't either learned how to make sushi and Japanese food properly or hired someone who can. SO BAD!! read more

This place is terrible!!! My colleague and I came to this restaurant due to its proximity to our hotel and the "great" ratings.... and boy was I wrong!! PLEASE read this review before going to this restaurant because it might change your mind. The first thing you notice when you walk into the restaurant is the lack of customers. At 7:30pm, you would expect there to be at least a few groups eating, however, not only were we the ONLY ones there, they did not even turn on the lights in the eating area. The place is somewhat clean and tidy, but the decor and ambiance is reminiscent of a cheap Chinese restaurant from the 90's which has forgotten to renovate itself over the years. This is a family restaurant run by a husband and wife neither of whom know how to make or serve Japanese food. Someone else on this page thought that the restaurant is a traditional Japanese restaurant, but you will quickly realize that the "chef" has a very thick Vietnamese accent and the only waiter/server in the restaurant is her black husband, so neither are Japanese. He is friendly enough, but the service is very slow and he walks with a gallop and wears an Under Armor baseball cap while serving food, if any of that matters to you. The menu is comprehensive and includes all the standard items, but at highly marked up prices. For example, 2 pieces of sashimi was about $5-6 and the EXTREMELY TINY rolls ranged from $10-13. We ordered a plate of Chicken Tempura, but instead of the typical fried tempura that people come to expect, we got 3 slices of chicken and 2 slices of yam both of which looked more like a Schnitzel than a tempura - they definitely do not own a tempura machine. The miso soup was decent but over priced. Our sashimi dinner platter had a mere 7 thin slices of salmon, 3 slices of tuna, 3 slices of octopus, and 3 pieces of scallop for the great price of $25.99!! Wow! The tuna was NOT fresh and tasted incredibly fishy and the salmon was not slices evenly because some of the sliced were easily doubled the widths of others. When we got our rolls, they were not much better. The taste was average at best, but the rolls were tiny and the rice was not rolled tightly enough to keep the contents snug. At this point, we should've just left, but since I had already decided that I was going to write a review, I wanted to be as comprehensive as possible so I ordered one of the cheesecakes on the menu whose name was so long and convoluted that we had trouble figuring out what was actually in it. Anyways, the cheesecake was unremarkable... which is to be expected from a slice of Costco-style cheesecake. Our bill came out to be over $80 for the two of us. Take my experience for what its worth.
