I've been to this place quite a few times, as I work near by. The lunch bentos are a good deal, but the quality of them are a bit to be desired when it comes to the sushi. I've gotten the katsudon a couple times too, and it's a good meal. Comes with miso soup and salad. Which, the salad is basically a leaf of lettuce with a bit of odd carrot dressing. The all you can eat is as you would expect it. It's nothing to write home about. The quantity of the sushi definitely outweighs the quality, that's for sure. The interior is quite small, but it's cozy. There's a couple back areas for larger groups. I want to sit there one of these days. All in all, it's worth it's price, but make sure you go with a good group of friends to keep you entertained while you wait. It does get busy! read more

We were pleasantly surprised with our entire experience here. The food was made fresh and tasted awesome. The service was friendly and prompt. The restaurant itself could use a little loving, but the rest of the experience here was good. We'd come back again. We did ayce dinner on a Sunday they may have raised prices from what other reviewers said, it was $27.99/person which is also their holiday prices. I'd go back for lunch - at $14.99 you can't go wrong! One thing that I really appreciated was that they weren't stingy with flavours on portions. My go-to sushi restaurant in Guelph is Samura sushi. Yes, there are other popular places like Fuji, Cherry Blossom or W Sushi, but Samura is the best in my opinion. They are a relatively small restaurant, but they do not often get so full to the point of having no seating. The prices here are similar to others, so there is no premium for being the best ;) For adult ayce, prices are $14.99 for lunch and $24.99 for dinner, 7 days a week. This is a pretty big plus because sushi restaurants usually increase their price on saturday, sunday and holidays. I had a friend from Japan who has now returned but while he was here, we used to eat here and he expressed to me that the quality of food was very good. Samura was actually his favourite place. He also used to tell me that workers from Japan who visit the factory across the street frequent this spot as well. It could just be for convenience, but I'd like to believe that its because the food tastes great. Most importantly, the fish is fresh and the rice is neither under nor overcooked. read more

Do not let exterior looks deceive you. Hidden in a parking lot of the Super 8 Hotel at the Woodlawn and Silvercreek intersection, is a true hidden gem. Maki sushi is my favourite here - so delicious and generously sized. I also like grabbing their chicken katsu salad for lunch. Their sashimi is fresh and they also have great, friendly service -- both for dine-in and delivery. Parking is available in front and back as they share with the hotel. I also like that they have Japanese-style floor dining in more private rooms from 6-14 people depending on which room (there are two) which is great for intimate gatherings. This may have been the worst "sushi" restaurant I've ever stepped foot in. It was filthy, smelly and incredibly uncomfortable. Japanese sushi chef? Not so much. The "fish" was fishy. No alcohol available even though there are Sapporo posters on the wall and bottles of booze (probably empty) behind the bar. I had to go to Swiss Chalet for a re-dinner just to get the taste of whatever it was I ate out of my mouth. Now I understand that Guelph isn't exactly sushi capital of Canada, but there have to be some minimum standards at any sushi place. This place meets none of them. Seriously. Don't. read more

My favourite Sushi place in Guelph . Avoid all you can eat on weekends it is pricy but the A La Carte menu is well priced and we filled up for half the all you can it price . Finally one japanese place I can try while i'm here. Ordered the bbq eel pizza, japanese-style with its house sauce, chopped green.yellow.red peppers, a bit of onions, and of course generous portions of unagi on a deep-fried rice patty. yummy! This restaurant deserves a review so here it is! Having been spoiled with the abundant sushi choices in Toronto for the last 5 years, I desperately needed to fill that void when I moved back to Guelph and though I do need to drive a short 7 minutes for my sushi fix (as opposed to a 3 minute walk around the corner) Samura satisfies my craving every time. I don't order sashimi or any rolls with raw fish so I can't comment on those. I have ordered: - Dynamite rolls and avocado rolls, 8 pieces each. Fresh ingredients and not too much rice. Perfect! - Tempura appetizer - crispy, deep-fried goodness. Yum! - Chicken katsu bento box - Deep-fried crusted chicken atop a bed of white rice and bean sprouts. comes with 4 pieces of tempura (2 shrimp, 2 veggie), 2 beef dumplings, 3 pieces of salmon and cucumber maki, some fruit and of course the standard salad and miso soup. At $11.50, this is a generously filling portion (which I can never finish in one sitting). The interior is your typical sushi restaurant set-up with 1 or 2 private booths in the back. Everyone on staff is friendly and cheerful. Some sushi restaurants feel crammed, leaving me with very little personal space, but this one is quite spacious and airy which I really appreciate. The only downfall is the location - it's situated in the driveway of a motel so it's easy to miss unless you're looking for it. Parking can be a challenge as there are no more than 6 spots. Ordered delivery through just-eat. Sashimi quality was extremely poor. Gyoza were the worst I have ever had. Even the smoked salmon in the Philadelphia rolls tasted off. Not fresh at all. Very poor quality. Paid almost $50 and most went in the garbage, couldn't even stomach it. Very disappointed. I love sushi and Samura Sushi ruined it for me tonight. Ps. If all you eat are deep-fried tempura rolls then you might not notice the poor quality. If you are a sashimi and fresh fish lover, don't waste your money. It's awful. read more

All you can eat sushi, haven't had that since I left Vegas. That was worth it I should say. Well chalk this up to another bad all you can eat experience. Sushi in Guelph is pretty much a crapshoot. You won't find anything in the city that will measure up to the much better options in Kitchener/Waterloo or Toronto. That being said, Samura Sushi has a lunch special that is a great deal. I believe it's 3 rolls for 11.99 or something like that. Whenever I need to buy my lunch and I'm craving some lunchtime sush, I'll head over here and get the special. In terms of value alone, this place is definitely passable. read more

This is a good cheap sushi option in Guelph. I've been here a few times; I've gotten take away mostly but dined in once. I like getting the lunch special for take away when I'm having a sushi craving. You get a choice of 2 or 3 rolls, soup, and salad for 7 or 9 bucks plus tax. (The options are: tuna, salmon, cucumber, avocado, California, spicy salmon, spicy crab, avocado and cucumber, yam tempura or Alaska). It's not the best on flavour or freshness but it's decent, quick, satisfies a craving, and the waitress who handles the take away orders is efficient and polite. read more

Went for the first time over the weekend on the recommendation of a friend whom I trust implicitly about sushi. We were NOT disappointed. With so many things on the menu that we wanted to order the AYCE seemed like the smart way to go. Especially being 13.99 for lunch. I've never actually had AYCE sushi because I've never heard good things...but this was wonderful. The bf doesn't eat sushi at all because he hates seaweed and isn't into sashimi because raw fish doesn't appeal to him. I, personally, love maki... We had the karage, the spring rolls, the fried rice, the chicken teryaki, beef teryaki, edamame, veggie sushi pizza, the assorted tempura...and I had the yam tempura roll and the asparagus roll. Fantastic. Seriously. We had two orders of some of these dishes and we were so full, fat and happy when we left...the bf couldn't stop raving about it! The karage wasn't greasy like I've had it at other restaurants. It was light and crisp and was like a Japanese KFC. The one dish that wasn't so wonderful was the beef tataki...it tasted slightly "off"...but everything else was fresh, freshly made and delish. The staff aren't exactly at your table every two minutes but that's not a huge problem. If the staff was a bit more present and the washrooms didn't smell like an outhouse this would have been a 5. Sushi, sashimi and rolls are all stellar. Freshest fish at an all-you-can-eat in Guelph. Service is solid. The place is small enough that your server never completely disappears on you like at some other places. Every time we go, it's a great dining experience. My only complaint is that the location is not the best; but it is accessible by both car and public transit, so that is a plus. Once you're inside you can't tell that you're in a fairly industrial area, and because it's in a strange spot I've never had to wait for a seat. read more

If you love sushi, and you find yourself in Guelph, YOU MUST GO HERE. I live in Toronto and go to Guelph every now and then to visit family and it's become a ritual for us to go to Samura during my visits. The food is top notch. They offer AYCE which is what I always opt for, but you can also order off a regular menu as well. My parents often pay, so I'm not sure but I believe AYCE is $21.99. It's not the biggest place, but tables are nicely spread out and the atmosphere is great. They have two private booths in a semi-separated room for larger groups. YOU MUST TRY THEIR SUSHI PIZZA. So flavourful and the texture is great. Sometimes if they're busy they might forget part of your order, but it's a rare occurence. If it seems like they forgot something, just ask. And finally, don't forget to top the dinner off with some red bean or green tea ice cream. My boyfriend loves their deep fried vanilla ice cream. First timer...friends had been raving about this little mom and pop place in a hotel parking lot. It was fantastic. 6 of us Did the all you can eat and every dish was yummy, service was prompt and the staff was friendly. No difference than the all u can eat ones.
