Dr. Shammas is a GREAT doctor. She actually listens to you. She also seems to know as much about conditions & diseases you usually see specialist for, as the specialist. AND; she really does REMEMBER YOU. I am very particular about my doctors; and I highly recommend her. Cynthia, the "right hand" of the doctor is also wonderful. I love that it is a small practice; rather than one of those too busy big "factories", where you feel like a number stepping into an "enterprise"; and not a person. Probably my least favorite doctor I've been to. After arriving and waiting an hour for my appointment time, Lina was very dismissive of what I had to say regarding my pain and spoke condescendingly. I also found that she and her office find every little thing they can think of to bill you without doing much. I've since found a new primary care provider and am much happier. I met Dr. Shammas for the first time yesterday and I am SO impressed! She made me feel comfortable because she was very personable, knowledgeable and appeared sincerely concerned for my health. During my lengthy talk with her she seemed determined to get to the root of what's causing me to have allergies on a daily basis, (mainly itchy skin). It's funny too because I hadn't even intended to bring this topic up, but I did because she seemed so caring! Initially, I had thought she would just recommend Benadryl or offer a prescription antihistamine like I have gotten before from other doctors, but she wanted to know why I was having the allergies and I do too! Thank you for caring, Dr. Shammas and wanting to know the problem instead of just treating the symptoms! In addition, I have hypothyroidism and she is the first doctor who ever had me feel my own thyroid. I felt very involved in the whole process of the examination and a bit more educated when I left! As I walked out of her office I was so excited that I felt it was funny I should leave a doctors office in such an emotional state! But I did, because I felt I had found the doctor I plan to see for many years to come. Just this morning I went to get bloodwork and the lady in the lab said to please be sure and tell the doctor she said hello. I told her I had just seen Dr. Shammas for the first time yesterday and I felt I had found my doctor. She said that Dr. Shammas is a dear person. Indeed, I believe I have found a keeper! I had one really great visit with Dr. Shammas a few years ago that led me to add her as my PCP. Ever since then it's been three years of sub standard care and I wonder if I was possibly smoking crack the first time we met because how could I possibly been so bamboozled? Without getting into all the details, let me leave you with the straw that broke the camels back for me with Dr. Shammas and her staff: I called to make an appointment for a PAP and discuss birth control options. Closest appointment is more than a month out. I asked the receptionist if there were any gynecologists their office recommends as I'd like to be able to get a doctors appointment before the second return of Christ. I didn't think this was a strange request- doctors make referrals all the time. Also, because of the limitations of Dr. Shammas' office (they can't take samples for testing, perform imagining or administer many medicines), I'd assume they have a roster other professionals they refer clients to. After a call back, the receptionists says Dr. Shammas can't recommend a gynecologist because I have a PPO and don't need a referral. I should instead contact a doctor through my insurers 'Find a Doctor' options online. Have you ever used that functionality on your insurers page? It's a mess no matter what insurer you have. Half the doctors are specialists, half don't actually accept your insurance anymore but haven't updated the insurance company. If only there were a doctor, lets call them a primary provider of care... a person who could help you coordinate your care and make recommendations for the betterment of your health... If only. It seems really fucking odd that my PCP would refer me to looking up doctors in an online phone book rather than give me the name of a college she trusts that I could go visit. Very fucking odd. Dr. Shammas works with HMO networks and can obviously make referrals and give recommendations. Instead she and her receptionists choose to make your life more difficult for no reason. I will absolutely not be back. read more

I went to Dr. Shammas for a regular check-up as I was due for one and I was having issues with allergies. First off, I want to say that Dr. Shammas has a very unique and appealing practice that doesn't have that scary, hospital, dreary vibe to it. Her office staff were very friendly, I only waited a couple minutes and Dr. S herself was very comfortable, warm and upbeat. She took the time to get to know me (I am a new patient) and talked to me as a peer, rather than a patient. She gave me lots of good advice about allergies and transitioning to the local climate (I'm from out of state) and ordered a lab test to make sure all my levels were good. After I took the lab test Dr. S. called me right away to tell me the results, (all good!) and explained what I should do going forward about allergies, etc. Once again she was very warm and friendly, and it was a pleasant, informative, brief phone conversation. I am feeling very fortunate to have found a good, new primary physician on my first try! I will definitely refer people to Dr. Shammas and continue to be her patient, 5 STARS! read more

My first visit with Dr. Shammas was great, she listened and was very thorough. But then I got a severe UTI and called her answering service after hours on a Friday night. She called back, I told her I was having bleeding and pain and I've had UTIs before and this was probably the worst one I've ever had. She was very sympathetic and called in a antibiotic prescription to the pharmacy for me right away. That was great. I also went into Urgent Care that night because I wanted a urine culture done to be sure I was on the right antibiotics. The urgent care doctor also wrote me a note to be off work for two days which was great because I'm a peds icu nurse and there is no way I can get thru a busy 12hr shift with a bad UTI. So I called in sick for two days, and gave my work the urgent care sick note but they wanted a special form filled out by my primary doctor to certify my two days off for my illness, so I dropped it off with Dr. Shammas to sign. She leaves me a message saying she won't sign it. I go to see her and she tells me "Just because you have a UTI doesn't mean you can't work". Hmmm? I don't know about you Dr. Shammas but would you want the nurse taking care of your critically ill infant running back and forth to the bathroom all day with severe pain and bleeding or would you want your nurse focusing 100% on your sick child? I even showed her my paperwork from the Urgent Care with my lab results proving I had E Coli and blood in my urine, explained how severe the UTI was and she still refused to sign my time off work form. And then on top of it, when I asked for the form back she said " I'm sorry, I lost it." I would give Dr. Shammas zero stars if I could for her lack of compassion, poor organizational skills, and her total inability to see that her priority as a doctor should be to CARE for her patients, not force them to work when they are sick. read more

I have to state before anything that I am giving this place two stars based on the performance of the staff and NOT the doctor alone. The doctor, like many others have stated before, is an amazing doctor! I know because I went in with someone during her appointment. This doctor rocks! Seriously, everything others are saying about her is absolutely right. So why the two stars? They don't give reminder calls like pretty much every other doctor office does and they don't notify you of this practice. I think that they should let people know that when they book an appt. so that people are at least warned about it. I booked my appointment about a month and a half, may be closer to two, before and I lost my phone and got a new one. I changed from an iPhone to a Droid and obviously the calendar date did not migrate. I completely forgot about my appointment. To make a long story short, I called Dr. shammas' office today and told the girl that I either had or have (I was not sure if it had passed) an appointment with Dr. Shammas. I asked her if they give reminder calls and she "no, we don't give curtesy calls." She didn't ask me for my name to see if my appointment had passed or not. Didn't bother asking me if I wanted to reschedule? Nothing! Just stayed quiet. So I replied, "well, I guess that takes care of that!" And said good bye. Yes, it is the obligation of the patient to keep track of appointments and I am typically very good at that. Unfortunately with my phone getting lost I could not remember all my appointments. Specially one that far ahead and with a doctor that I have never seen before as a patient of hers. That they don't do "curtesy" calls is not that big if a deal. My problem is with the lack of "curtesy" to even ask what my name is to verify that my appt. had or hand't passed or to ask me if I would like to reschedule. I suppose that she wanted me to do the thinking for her and advice her on what to do. I've been an EMT for many years and I've dealt with a lot of medical professionals. One thing I can't tolerate is unprofessionalism and lack of enthusiasm in this line of work. If you don't like your job then it's time to look for another. People's lives and health is no laughing matter. If I took that type of attitude to trauma or critically ill call and treated my patient that way, I could end up killing or not saving someone's life. I love my job and expect others to at least give it half a decent effort. It's only common sense that she should had asked for a name to verify the date of the appt. It saddens me how sometimes bad attitudes and unprofessionalism of staff hurt the kindness and professionalism of some doctors. But just like patients should be accountable for keeping track of their appointments with doctors, doctor's should also be accountable for the level of service their staff provide. It goes both ways. So again, my two star rating is about the staff and NOT the Doctor. If you want a great doctor and don't mind putting up with the staff, I would highly recommend her. Just don't forget your appointment. And if you do and you call to reschedule, make sure you tell the girl that you need to reschedule. Otherwise chances are that she won't know what to do. read more

Very unpleased with this office. When I turned 18, I transferred from my pediatrician to Dr. Lina Shammas. She's close by my house and seemed very nice. I particularly chose her because she took my insurance. Months have passed and I called the office to make an appointment. The girl on the phone asks me if I still have the same insurance. I said yes. She automatically tells me I'm not a patient anymore and that Dr. Shammas has stopped taking my insurance since October! I got a absolutely no heads up that I was about to lose my doctor. I was sitting without a doctor for 4 months and nobody wanted to let me know! They did nothing to let me know and then once I called, they told me I'm no longer a patient. She is patient and takes a real interest in finding out the root cause of whatever is going on. I was referred to Dr. Shammas by a friend of mine after experience such horrible treatment from my previous doctor. It was like night and day. She actually cared, listened and ordered tests to figure out what was going on with me. She even asked me about my family's medical history in depth to try to find any ties and rule out anything that could be going on. This woman is amazing!! Just got off the phone with Dr. Shammas after calling, concerned because I got a bad bout of food poisoning. She took her time to talk with me and tell me exactly what I should be eating/drinking to help the process and feel better. I just had my first official appointment with her last week for a general physical and she was wonderful.
