She asked questions about my hair coloring history and my hair type. She asked about the type of upkeep I wanted. She actually cared which is tough to find in a hair stylist. "Believe in your selfie". I love this little saying that Lina has posted in her salon. Located in a nice suite with other hair stylists, Lina's place was very kempt inside with a nice window to steal some glances on the current weather outside. I really liked that there was a TV for clients to do a hulu marathon while getting pampered. I believe I found my stylist in Texas. It was such a huge chore to find the right person, but here we are...Lina to the rescue. One of Lina's strengths is that she listens. Sounds basic right? Not as easy as you think. My last stylist made me a super light blonde even though I requested to go darker. Lina got my ombre balayage right the first time. She was able to work with me while incorporating her personal creativity. I explained how I wanted to go from my light blonde to a darker color. It's been a lil over a year since I've been here and my hair is still trying to grow out the damage done! I took me months to get an appointment and so you can imagine I was so excited when the day came for my bayalage! I get to her salon and we start. I tell her very specifically that my hair pulls RED and I hate red! So I asked her to be very careful with lowlight color because if it has any red tint my hair will grab that and not let go! Few hours later we are done and without me even saying a word she says she is. It satisfies with the color and for me to come back the next day to redo.... sigh ok. I get home and realize why she wants to redo! The color she used was definitely red based! Instead of brown lowlights I had more red than anything. But! I'm thinking she can fix this! I come I the day day not even upset. She tries to fix the issue and I'm thinking she left the color in too long or something because my "virgin" hair under my hair that is always nice and soft is not only red but fried! Love my haircut. Wish I could replicate her blow out after washing my hair. Her blow out stood up against strong wind in Texas. While reading the reviews for her, there was someone mentioned that she dried cut and the $90 fee didn't include a wash. That's false. She did dry cut but afterwards there was a hair wash. LOVE. HER!!!! I wish I met her when I first moved to Texas. She brought the "sexy back" in me that I've lost. Lina is by far the most "meticulous" hair stylist I have ever met. Today, it took 7 hours (yes, 7 hours) to fix the previous hairdo disaster I got from another salon. She walked me through every step. Every time I see a business on Yelp! with nothing but 5 star reviews, I get suspicious and scroll through them all to check the quality of the review and the person writing it. In this case, it wasn't so much the reviews that convinced me, but the pictures. After all, "a picture is worth a thousand words" or something like that. Lina has posted pictures of all the work she's done and it is all definitely impressive! I've been to see Lina twice. The first time I called her, she answered almost immediately. Since then, we've communicated via text... mostly because it's easy for me cuz I'm lazy and antisocial, but also because I know that she has appointments every day and text is easier for her to manage between sessions. It's completely understandable because when she's doing my hair, I don't want her on the phone talking to someone else or texting - she needs to be 100% focused on my hair. She has also been very personable and very professional. As a general rule, unless prices are printed some place you can readily find them, you should ask for an estimate on cost and time. It makes perfect sense... If you go to get your car tuned up, don't you want to know how much it's going to cost and how long it will be before you let them do the work? Lina's estimations on time and cost are generally right on, she sandbags on the time just in case something unexpected comes up (everyone's hair is different). And you definitely get what you pay for. You can go to a beauty school and pay salon school prices, and pray they don't destroy your hair. You can go to a chain and cross your fingers that the lady you're paying $90 to touch up your roots does it right. Or, you can go to someone who knows what they are doing, is backed by her clients and can prove her work with the tons of pictures she's got. For reference, a color correction over one visit took six hours. My hair was orange with black and gray roots. After six hours, I got exactly what I asked for: ash brown base and pretty ash blonde highlights and peek-a-boo pieces. And her pricing is in line with what most knowledgeable colorists will charge and about par with prices you'd see at chains like Regis. Love my hair! While sipping on some hazelnut coffee and a chai latte, I got a very natural looking ombré---something to transition from winter to spring. I prefer hair that is low maintenance and the time it takes to have an ombré done is worth the trip I take every 4 to 5 months to get it cut and re-touched.
