I've been to the Eastern State Penitentiary before so I wanted to try this place out this year because they had much more time slots and was half the price! Fyi about parking, there are parking lots everywhere and only for a few bucks! The whole experience probably lasted 15-20 minutes but it felt like eternity - any longer and I think I'd need medical attention With the waiting (while being scared on the line), the entire experience took 1 hour (I chose the earliest time slot and still had to wait about 30 -45 minutes). A quick fun and thrilling experience in the area!

The scare actors timed their approaches perfectly and scared the living !@#$%^&* out of me more than ten times. I was scared out of my mind at one point and thought about leaving, but I had to continue because, well, I paid for a VIP ticket! At one point, I could not see in front of me and I felt so discombobulated that I wanted to sit and calm myself down. Right after I left the haunt, I felt really nauseous. That's how scary this was. This haunt is THE BEST HAUNT IN PHILLY 2025. Eastern State Penitentiary was good. Lincoln Mill was better. But this haunt... jeez, it's on another level. Nobody's paying me to say any of this. I like going to places without someone else swaying my opinion. The scenes are really good and well thought out. Lincoln Mill tried copying one of the scenes at Fright Factory but it pales by comparison to Fright Factory. You will be scared out of your mind when the monster approaches you in it. Big props to the creepy clowns. They make Art the Clown look normal by comparison. One clown in particular had this way of approaching me that was hella creepy. I was freaked out! I timed this haunt on my smart watch at 25 minutes from start to finish. It is described as three parts/acts/sections according to their web site and other reviews. There's more to it than just thinking about the haunt as sections. If you submerge yourself into any one room for too long, you will see, as I did, how scary that could be. I was hightailing it out of certain areas as fast as I could as the monsters chased after me, sometimes for long corridors before they let up. You're looking at a much longer haunt stepwise than most other haunts. According to my smart watch, I experienced almost 4 minutes of 127+ bpm heart rate (that's super high intensity), about 11.5 minutes of 99-127 bpm heart rate (high intensity), and 11 minutes of 71-99 bpm moderate intensity. I'm an elite level athlete (#6 in the world in yoga asana competition), so your experience may differ. If you suffer from any heart or breathing conditions, be sure to get that all well-maintained before you enter this scary haunt.

After taxes and fees, tickets for a 7:00 time slot on Friday were $49 apiece. Definitely expensive, but I felt we easily got our money's worth. It's in the middle of nowhere south of Mullica Hill. We got there around 6:40 and parking was easy with floodlights in the lot and many signs and attendants guiding cars. There are four different attractions included in the ticket. It starts with a hayride, then onto three different areas that you walk through. Each area is an absolute assault on the senses: loud music and sound effects, actors jump scaring you, running at you screaming with chainsaws, flashing lights and bursts of fire everywhere. Definitely fun but not for the faint of heart. Everything here is truly next level from the costumes and makeup on the actors, to the pyro technics, to the hundreds of animatronics, and the overall attention to detail in the set designs. Afterwards they have campfires to sit by and lots of food for purchase. It was really nice to sit and just people watch and enjoy the atmosphere. Just an all around classic South Jersey Halloween experience that everyone should try at least once. If haunted attractions are your thing, you definitely need to try this one.

They did a good job of trying to scare you with using fog or light that blinked a lot. I do feel like they could have done a better job with the haunting. Like there was one section where there was a tunnel and it was too foggy to see anything. There were a ton of mannequins you had to walk past. I think it would have been nice if they would have had some actual people in there so they could come back from behind and scare you. The haunt also featured palm readers and had a bar where they were also playing live music. There were some characters dressed up near the bar as well which was interesting. The staff was really friendly and took an ample amount of pictures for us. If you bought premium tickets, there was a separate line and they had access to a VIP bar as well (to be honest, it didn't seem worth it to me but I also wasn't drinking).

I don't scare easily at all and one of them actually got me. I did not like the spin bridge thing I was dizzy but I get that the point. I don't like that you dint have a choice of which order to do the attractions in that you have to do them in order and there's nothing really in between like a bonfire or snacks, bathrooms were plentiful though. Also my favorite part of haunted places is always the hayride so I missed that but again everything that was there was really good. The asylum part itself was the best part. There was some sort of incident at the end and we were rushed out and it was hush hush so we didn't get snacks or shopping at the end but it's ok the kids got frosty's at Wendy's on the way home. I would recommend and do it again.

I enjoyed going from one haunted attraction to another. In the past few years I felt like they were going in the direction of a hangout and drinking and less haunted attractions. But, this year they evened it out. It was a great. There was two sections to hang out and have a drink. A great way to spend your time while waiting for lines or a way to calm your nerves. I enjoyed having one haunted house after another. The special effects and the decor for the houses really were kicked up a notch this year, 2025. Ordering tickets online is very easy, and I always buy the parking pass for the zoo because it is convenient. The pricing is and can be pricy, but it is a fundraiser. So I do not really complain about it. The bus drivers were great and engaging both to there and back. I enjoyed the stories and the music. Overall this has always been my favorite haunted attraction in Philly. It really never fails. I highly recommend taking a tour outside of the Halloween time frame. I'm already a scaredy cat and Act 1 of this tour had me literally jumping at every turn. Even through all the spookiness I even caught myself getting distracted by how well done the stage design was. Whoever designed each portion of the haunted house portion deserves a standing ovation. Also love that there's breaks between each "terror" moment. The food trucks there were incredibly delicious - not too sure if the same food trucks are there every night or not. The drinks were STRONG and soooo good. We got the apple cider & bourbon drink My boyfriend got the VIP experience which included entry to the Al Capone Speakeasy at the end of the tour and it was a really well done idea. Also really enjoyed their new exhibit that went more into depth about prison systems in the past vs now. Incredibly informative

The actors were fun though, built off my groups comments and leaned into it. Ideal if you don't want to be terrified but just a little anxious. I was just left unimpressed by the hayride and indv houses/areas. I can look past the long lines, that's the case anywhere but just a little worst here. The YouTube videos looked great and tickets were purchased. After our pre-haunt meal we arrived. The place was lit up nicely, creepy music playing. The actor who gave the instructions was on point, he was creepy, funny and into the festivities that awaited us. So this is by no means a bad review, however, there was just not enough actors to deliver scares. The sets were fantastic, using all the standard fare that all the great places use. That being said, again, just not enough actors within the haunt. We walked through several scenes without seeing an actor. For the price of the tickets (which are on par with much larger places like Penhurst Asylum and East State Penitentiary) Hotel of Horror just does not stack up with the big boys. Would we return? Probably not, for the money, would most likely return to one of the big boys!!!
