Nulu is stocked full of awesome and beautiful public art works. Thai Alice and wonderland rendering has added to that. So detailed, specific and well done. Everytime I walk by it I notice a detail that I haven't before. Overall a beautiful and wonderfully done piece of public art. I can see it becoming a favorite of many inside the city.

TikTok really has opened my eyes to hidden treasures everywhere. I'm sure that I'm not the only one…read morethat feels this way. When you doom scroll, you come across many different places that are true hidden gems. Door To Nowhere, or Heigold House, is definitely an oddity and salute to the past. Some housekeeping, you know, things to know about this place. BE CAREFUL. This sits on a roundabout island with steady traffic. Be mindful to the traffic flow and businesses nearby (I parked at a nearby business off the road and walked over here). Be kind to the natural beauty that surrounds this. And most of all, be respectful. As I said, this sits on a roundabout with flowerbeds surrounding it. Whether you are facing front, as in looking at the front of the façade, or looking from the rear, please stay on the sidewalks provided. Take in the informational plaques as well. Built by Christian H Heigold, a successful stonecutter. Majority of the house was completed in 1853. Heigold was a master at stonecutting and completed the home with busts of Presidents George Washington and James Buchanan. Heigold was also a staunch opponent of the 'Know Nothing Party,' and anti-immigration political party and I would like to think that he built his house with all the busts was a big middle finger to those that were anti-immigration. This façade sat in what was known as the The Point neighborhood, which was favored by those that moved to the city from the New Orleans area. Once Louisville diverted the Beargrass Creek away from downtown, this place started to flood annually. Shifting people away from the neighborhood and then the Great Flood of 1937 happened. Slowly the city started buying houses and demolishing them. Ultimately using the land as a dump site. Then this façade was listed on the National Registry of Historical Places. Remained in that area which became Thruston Park. That is until a developer bought the land adjacent to this and build condos. They moved this massive beast, 70,000-pounds, across River Road to where it sits today.

Very cool public art mural located on the side of a eatery off Baxter ave that pays tribute to the…read morelate great Muhammad Ali must famous catch phrase. Float like a butterfly and sting like a bee. The mural consist of a pair of boxing gloves with its angel halo (I assume created shortly after ali passing) and the left wing being a butterfly wing and the right wing being a bee wing. Very cool and unique. While the mural never mentions Ali name or the phrase or is obvious what the message is by the creative use of symbolism. Overall a great piece and while it's not very large and kinda hard to spot on the side of a building it may be one of my new favorite pieces because of the creativity.

Music alley gallery is a really cool mural in a downtown Lousiville alley off the theatre square…read moredistrict of the downtown area. The moral itself features musical instruments such as an electric guitar and musical notes with darker shades of black purple and blue. They also have some strong fairy lights at the top of the alley to give it a really nice and relaxing atmosphere. Overall a really cool and somewhat hidden area with a nice mural and a visually pleasing setup.

Located right next door to the patio lr a popular Mexican food eatery in that portion of town this mural gets lots of photos and serves as a backdrop for fun times and memories for others. Overall pretty basic but very well done and fun public art mural. Murals or art with anything wings (butterfly, angel, bird) always make for fun photo ups of standing in between the wings and pretending they are yours. So that happens a lot with this mural naturally.

Located down the…read morestreet from the goant Lousiville slugger bay and next tot he shine bright mural this piece is right under the expressway underpasses. A bunch of twisted piping that at the beginning of it says the words "Louisville". I'm not sure the purpose or what it represents and after the words Lousiville it's kinda a mess and hard to determine what the design is. Overall it's still a unique piece to the city and kinda cool. In a weird spot so I'm not sure how much exposure it gets as the one way street people usually have merged on the expressway before hitting the underpass.

You'd miss this if you're up on South Ninth Street because this striking piece of public art is…read morelocated in the underpass. Intended to draw more visitors to this part of Louisville, this orange colored artwork is a series of tubes and lines. Literally, a knot that stretches about 165 feet. It is apparently interactive, but other than banging on one end of it, I couldn't figure out anything else. There is metered street parking nearby. [Review 13591 overall, 910 of 2020.]

I didn't find the Garden but I did find the historical marker that describes the site and the…read morehistory. It is located at the corner of Bradley and Presidents. The marker reads, "The Grotto (D.X. Murphy & Bros., Architects) was dedicated in 1927 as a place for contemplation on St. Joseph Infirmary grounds. Two-story, half-domed, concrete apse is faced on inside with stones and rubble. Modeled on natural grotto at Lourdes, SW France, where Virgin Mary appeared to Bernadette Soubirous in 1858." And on the reverse, "Their statues adorned Louisville Grotto. Masonry walls enclose Grotto's Garden. Fourteen arched niches, since filled in, held mosaics of Stations of the Cross, events from end of Jesus' life. Dwane Beckhart painted modern replacements. Named state landmark by Ky. This location shares a spot with two other cool sights in the NoCo story time attraction and the NoCo wildflowers murals that surround the tower. Right across the street is "the depot" and "Picasso Pointe" which are very cool places to take in vibrant art and relax or let the kids run wild. Overall extremely cool place. The whole NoCo area I'm excited for to see where it goes and how it grows. I've definitely found a new spot to take my kids and spend a day at.

It's super close and easily walkable from the Indiana side of the bridge. If you're looking for something really interesting to check out, this spot definitely checks the box!

I've known for awhile that businesses have been encouraged to hire…read moreartists to design a door belonging to their building; however, I haven't naturally bumped into many. After visiting the website I learned a map is available to download. While downtown I visited the Louisville Visitors Center, which is near the Hyatt Regency, and I noticed a painted door I'd never seen before. I was so excited! Time to find more. Love the mission behind Alley Gallery, to support local art and beautify Louisville.

The weird is a very colorful and creative public art mural in the very popular and busy highlands…read moreneighborhood just off bardstown road in Lousiville. Massive mural that is a fun photo op. Not sure why it is called the weird as it features a few bites and things. Maybe a play off an old Louisvilel saying that I believe originated form a highlands business that said "keep Louisville weird". Overall a great piece and very fun piece that makes for a great photo op. I was able to pull out a good old fashioned dad joke when I told my oldest daughter to go stand by the words over there and be weird. So score one cringe dad point for this guy.
