Can't believe this is free! What a cool and great zoo! It's better than a lot of paid zoos. There's so many animals, and it actually takes longer to get through than what'd you think! We didn't even finish going to the exhibits but had been there for almost 4 hours when it was closing. For me the highlight was the polar bear- it was a bit shy which made it all the more exciting when we saw it! The signage around it is a bit confusing- the waterfall area has the polar bear, and the other area has the grizzlies. Since they're next to each other on all of the signs it makes it seem like they're in the same enclosure. All of the animals have the ability to go inside if they want, so I'd recommend waiting and being patient, you may get lucky! I'd highly recommend this zoo- so cool!

With a wide variety of animals, clean and well kept grounds, and a large size, the free-of-charge Lincoln Park Zoo is one of the best zoos around and is definitely worth a visit. Opened in the 1800s, Lincoln Park Zoo is filled with historical buildings, statues, and displays on the animals that have inhabited over the years. Here, you'll find lions, zebras, giraffes, monkeys, birds, sea lions, and more. There are many educational displays as well as a cafe and a gift shop. The surrounding Lincoln Park is also nice and you can easily spend a full day here.

I take my first grade class to the zoo every year for our end of year field trip, and Lincoln Park Zoo never disappoints! Though the picnic area was closed off this year due to the set up for Adults Night Out, there are still SO many places to sit and enjoy school lunches. So many of the animals were out and the weather made it a great day to walk around! The kids couldn't stop talking about all that they saw! We even got a little lesson about Red Pandas from one of the workers.

Came back here with my now two year old and he was in toddler heaven! From an adult perspective, there really weren't all that many animals out (this could be because it's still early march and too cold). For example, the Pritzker Children's Zoo, an exhibit within the LP Zoo, had no animals at all, besides the squirrels which my toddler was still very excited to see (lol). We did see a sea lion, lots of variety of monkeys, gorillas, and lions! Our favorites were the lions. So majestic! We also had a BLAST on the merry-go-round. I forsee lots more trips to the zoo as the summer approaches! Of course, it's free - so even if we don't see a LOT it's hard to complain. Parking was about $35 which for Chicago is not bad!

One of my favorite places to visit when I'm at Chicago is the Lincoln Park Zoo! One of the best things about it is that admission is completely free--you only need to pay for parking. The zoo is huge and offers so many animals to observe and learn about, making it a fun and educational experience for all ages. They also have several dining options with a variety of foods, including Italian, Mexican, Cuban sandwiches, and more. The entire zoo is very clean and well maintained. It's a wonderful place to spend quality time with family and friends while enjoying nature and wildlife!

My daughter ran the Run for the Zoo kids obstacle course this morning for the first time and we stuck a round to see some animals and had a great time. It's not too big and very walkable. Clean and fun for all ages.

I was in Chicago visiting and checking out all the cool things that Chicago has to offer so we put the Lincoln Park Zoo on our list. This Zoo is free which these days there's not many things that are free. With that being said it was amazing how many things they had to offer. It is a neat kind of zoo they even had polar bears which was my favorite. It is not a huge Zoo but it covers all of the things that you expect a zoo to have. They also have inside exhibits with bats and also fishes even a hippopotamus. They have a gift shop on site where you can pick up some cool things. I picked up a magnet with the zoo's name on it which we collect from all different spots where we visit. I would definitely recommend the zoo you can't beat it.

Literally how is this zoo free. When on Memorial Day weekend and even though it was busy there is enough space for everyone. Absolutely beautiful grounds and plants. Sloth was the queen.

We only had time for a short visit BUT we will def be back and to explore the rest of the zoo!!! Also love that it is free with indoor and outdoor options.

I visited ZooLights at Lincoln Park Zoo with a few classmates before dinner and it was a great way to kick off the evening. The walk through the lights was relaxing and the displays were bright, creative, and easy to enjoy at a comfortable pace. It felt festive without being overcrowded. We grabbed mulled wine and spiked hot chocolate along the way, which made the cold a lot more enjoyable and added to the overall vibe. It was a simple stroll, but it made for a really fun break in the middle of a busy week. If you are in the area during the holidays, ZooLights is definitely worth a visit. It is an easy outing, good for groups, and a solid way to get in the winter spirit.

I was wandering aimlessly through Chicago, as I feel like walking is the best way to see a city. The rain had just stopped, so the whole Windy City was pretty dead. Next thing I know, I found myself half a pre roll deep face to face with a real life Lion. SIIIMBBBAAA!! The only thing separating us was a pane of glass. I was shocked. This is just a free zoo? That's a literal lion right there? Shouldn't homie be roaming the great planes? Why the hell is he in here? I began to get really sad. I couldn't help but think of the movie Madagascar, when Alex the Lion said "Leaving the zoo was the best thing that ever happened to us. Look at what we did out there in the world. We were really living!" Damn. Are we really just trapping them for our pleasure? So selfish. My next thought was "this little pane of glass is literally the only thing keeping me alive right now..." These apex predators are HUGE. I walked around and saw baboons, vultures, apes, sea lions, and other animals that don't belong trapped in a cage. I began to get really upset and disgusted with myself. It's truly depressing what we do to these animals, but then why am I so excited to see a Lion? Why am I taking selfies with him? I'm a part of the problem. I don't know. Zoos are weird and so am I. IG @johnny.novo Tiktok @jnov__ Substack @johnnynovo

Decided to come here on a whim because the weather was beautiful. The Lincoln Park Zoo is truly a Chicago gem. It's always free, so you don't feel pressured to stay long or see everything. You can stroll through, look around, then leave within half an hour. I love that we were able to witness snack time for the gorillas. It was so funny watching one of them take 5 heads of lettuce and then go sit on the hammock to eat them. There's also some walking trails nearby with great views.

Came to the city to see the zoo lights with my sister and the kids. Honestly, I've come three years in a row and they haven't changed it much which I wish they would even a tad bit. However, this times visit we had a we bit of a surprise! They have giraffes now! I don't believe I have ever seen them here before. Overall, it's great (free) zoo park and the zoo lights are for all ages. Very clean, a ton of stands during the zoo lights for snacks, hot chocolate and alcohol.

I was so happy that I was able to experience feeding the giraffes and that they actually feed them a whole Leaf of lettuce it's a bit of a on the pricey side $15 you get about half of a bunch of lettuce but to be able to feed them the whole Leaf it was amazing because other places you would only get like strips of carrots. We were there a bit early and so most if not some of the animals were all out and that was so nice to see so I did enjoy it a lot. The only downside was the food the food trucks were closed and so the only choice we had was the outdoor one in the cafeteria until we did choose the outdoor one and the line wasn't even that long but the two boys that were there I guess they were new and it was a part-time thing it was so disorganized that we waited almost an hour for our food. The food was okay for Zoo food but I would eat it again it's just the long wait. But this suit was amazing I highly recommend feeding the giraffes I wish they also offered more animal encounters like feeding the goats and whatnot but I would definitely be coming back. Happy exploring!

The bathrooms were cleaner than most so we were super grateful for that! We loved that there were so many animals actually in their exhibits unlike other zoos we've been to. The animals were actually rolling around and running around playing so my son loved seeing them. The food is super expensive, and any souvenirs were even crazier. We wanted ice cream but various places had their machines not working, for the amount of kids and the heat it was a let down but we appreciated the zoo for being so clean and shady. Parking is $17 in the north lot and $20 in the south. There were tons of busses but still ample parking. Overall a great visit. Be sure to check your local libraries for museum and zoo passes!

Unfortunately, about 15 minutes into the session, it started to rain so the group (around 10 of us) fled into the Chicago Cultural Center for the remaining time. I thought the CCC was interesting for about an hour but definitely did not have enough interesting areas to fill up a 3 hour photo shoot. This brings me to one of my complaints-the safari was supposed to be 3 hours, but it was only about 2 hours and 20 minutes. I'm sure it would be a better experience in Millennium Park but if you are planning to make the safari rain or shine, you should have a better back up plan. Also, b/c the CCC isn't brightly lit, this limited the settings people could use while taking pictures. Our instructor - Scott - is a student at Columbia and he had a good personality and did his best to engage the students and help them. I thought it was helpful that he had an iPad that allowed him to pull up a picture that illustrated the concept that he is explaining. He also was knowledgeable re photography. The one complaint regarding Scott is he clearly was out late the night before and still smelled like stale beer. Not a big deal to us, but I can see how that might bother some people. I think this class would be useful for someone that has a DSLR and only shoots in automatic mode or in program mode without understanding what is actually happening in the program mode. I'd say the majority of the class fit into this description. But, if you have a basic idea of how to set the exposure, what depth of field and what ISO are, I'd skip the safari and just walk around Millennium Park. The 3 stars is based on the Groupon price and if you are an absolute beginner. If you paid full price the rating would be a 2 stars.

I live out of town, and…read morethought this would be a fun way for us to spend time together while I was visiting for the holidays, and it was! The MP safari was beginner level, which worked well for my mom who was borrowing one of my DSLRs for the first time. As a more intermediate DSLR photographer, I got more familiar with my new camera and was able to talk lenses and other advanced topics with the instructor and students with the same DSLR Rebel I had. But the most beneficial thing for me was the fact that we spent so much time photographing the same subject (the Cloud Gate) over and over. Other yelpers lamented that there wasn't enough subject matter to photograph, and although that is true, the real benefit to the repetition is that you can take the same shot over and over and adjust your settings each time. Then when you go home, you can load the shots into the computer and compare the settings for each picture, and try to learn more about what settings work in which conditions. "Setting intuition" is something that I struggle with and having a slow tour through MP has already helped me to better predict how to set my camera for different lighting conditions. I would certainly recommend Chicago Photo Safaris to (1) beginners who own or have access to a DSLR camera or (2) intermediates who are either looking to become more familiar with their DSLR or use the safari as a way to experiment with settings, take home the shots, and critically evaluate them. The MP safari was NOT for folks who (1) want to take a bunch of pictures of different things, (2) don't own a DSLR or other digital with shutter speed and aperture controls, or (3) are easily bummed out by being outdoors on one of Chicago's many less-than-perfect days or indoors in one of our many old, under-lit buildings. As for me, I would seriously consider another Chicago Photo Safari when I'm in town in the future.
