I've been getting my hair cut by Aaron at Lincoln Square Barber Shop for almost 7 years. I always end up with a great cut, and I love the relaxed, laid back atmosphere. I drive down from West Ridge to visit LSBS; there are plenty of closer places to get my hair cut along the way, but I've honestly never considered going anywhere else. Super supportive, friendly, and professional place to have your hair cut with very fair pricing. I first came here when I was nervous about shaving my head for the first time and both barbers in the shop talked me through it. Yesterday I brought my brother - who had not had his hair or beard cut in a long time and looked like a mountain man - and they were just as supportive (shout out to Bo!). My brother has fairly severe social anxiety and was very worried about being judged for the state his hair had gotten into but Bo talked him through his options and gave him a cut that was a major improvement and should make a big difference in his life. 100% would recommend. read more

Extremely clean. The music is great, not too loud, you can still hold a conversation. It's Cali skater music, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rage agains the machine, Beasty Boys, etc... It's cash only. Can't say enough good things about the Shop and Bo! I've been getting my hair cut with Bo for some time now. The place has a comfortable hipster vibe without being pretentious. They can be very busy as their reputation for friendly professional staff and quality hair cuts of all sorts and facial hair trims, etc. is well earned and has grown beyond Lincoln Square. That being said, their website is easy to use and you can usually get in for a service with in a day or so. You can walk-in as well but there will probably be a wait. Now to Bo. First, he's a super good dude. Great conversations, easy going, and will listen to what you want for haircuts and beard trims. He will also offer suggestions if you'd like. seriously, I've gotten consistently great haircuts and beard trims from Bo. Also, he has cut my 5 year-old son's hair many times. I got my haircut by Carlos "Los" and he was very friendly, super calm presences and communicated through the experience giving me a haircut how exactly i wanted. I came to this barber shop the morning of my wedding and Luis cut my hair. He cut my hair very well, and charged me more than what was stated on the website. Since he cut my hair well, I decided to go back a couple months later with Luis again. He didn't remember me. He asked me to show him a photo of the type of haircut I'm looking for. I showed him some photos of my wedding day (the cut he gave me). He didn't pay too much attention to the photo and said that he knew the cut and knows what I want. I chose Luis initially because he spoke Spanish, and I am from Argentina. He cut my hair as you can see in the photos - a DISASTER. Not at all aligned: the back is cut off while in the front I have a lot of hair (which I want). I have been growing it out for years and he destroyed the hairstyle that took me so long to create. Instead of apologizing for the mess he made, Luis firmly stated that the haircut was like that and that he did nothing wrong (I think he noticed that he did a bad job because he only charged me $15, while the first time I paid $30). I think he is a beginner and very unprofessional and I don't think a reputable barbershop that charges a lot for cuts should have someone like that on the team. I cannot find anyone to fix the cut Luis gave me. The only option is to shave all my hair off unfortunately. I called Lincoln Square Barbershop to talk to a manager and not only did they not give me the phone to a manager, they also hung up on me. When I called back, they answered but left the phone on by mistake and I heard my barber talking bad about me and trying to defend himself to his coworkers. I STRONGLY do not recommend this barbershop, the barber Luis or the service they give here. They destroyed my hair. What I do recommend, is that instead of putting hot towels on people, this barbershop takes a hair and barber course because it's no joke to cut someone's hair. Jonathan from the Lincoln Square Barber Shop not only cut to the style I desired, but he showed great instincts when I wasn't quite sure which route to go, and it looks amazing. One thing I notice now that I go to barbers (I'm a gal with short hair), is how a barber takes care of their tools. Jonathan kept his tools sharp and I could tell he tended to whatever maintenance it took to keep the cut smooth and not frayed. Jonathan not only is extremely skilled and shows a depth of passion for what he does but he's a genuine and sincere guy. I would recommend if you are looking for a pleasant, efficient and sharp look, book an appointment ASAP. read more

Really skinny guy without all the tattoos (Barber that works there) name might be Sam. Cons- Shaky hands, lack of knowledge ( didn't know what a BLOWOUT is), will not line you up, uneven cuts, doesn't know measurements in Inches. When I was 8 my parents tried to femme me up and make me look less like a tiny dyke by sending me off to a discount hair cuttery to get a perm. I ended up with an afro and wore a sweater with a hood over my head for a month. And I was still gay when I left that place, so let the parents reading this know that you can't un-gay your little lesbo daughter by getting her a perm. No joke, that was the last time I had my hair cut by another person and paid for it until I came here, and now I come as often as I can. Treat yoself and go get your head styled by Sergio. Do not schedule with Jonathan, unless you want him to bail on you. The first time, it was "flooding in the basement". The second time, it was "not feeling well post-vaccine". This time, we went to the shop with a scheduled beard trim for weeks, we get there, and apparently, they can't do beard trims due to Covid. We understand abiding by the city's regulations, but this is a new level of unprofessionalism. Especially since there was clearly a client there unmasked who was getting a mustache trim. It's really too bad since we loved the beard trim Jonathan gave the one time he actually kept our appointment. We certainly will not be going back to this barber shop. read more

After a challenging first haircut elsewhere thinking about taking my 15 month old for a haircut was daunting, but I can't say enough good things about Lincoln Square Barber Shop, specifically our barber Bo! Bo was so calm, engaging, and patient with our little guy. He immediately made my son feel at ease and was willing to pivot to make the haircut a friendly experience for Finn, ensuring we will return time and again! Bo had a booster seat ready for his chair, a kid friendly monster cape, and even a phone holder so we could play content we knew our son would like. The atmosphere was welcoming as a mom bringing my kid to a space that is traditionally dominated by men, but even with kid's getting cuts it retains that traditional barbershop feel. Not only was Bo's customer service exceptional but my toddler got a great cut--Can't recommend Bo enough!! read more

As stated before in my previous review, I have had the pleasure of Jonathan being my barber for quite some time. Jonathan has been my sole barber for over a year while at Lincoln Square, and I followed Jonathan from his prior barbershop. I am not complaining about his skills. The last time I went to get my hair cut by Jonathan, Friday June 8, as usual the haircut was good. On Saturday June 9, I booked my follow-up appointment with Jonathan for tomorrow, Friday June 15 at 2pm. I received my confirmation email, and now I'm all set...or so I think. Today, Thursday June 14, I received a text message from Jonathan stating that "the system double-booked me". Apparently, another client booked the EXACT date and time prior to the time that I booked, so although I have a confirmation email and I received a reminder email yesterday, my appointment (not the other client) needs to be cancelled. Jonathan then stated that I could book my appointment for the same day, but at 11:30am. It wasn't ideal, but I agreed to the time. He told me that I would have to book it quickly. Within minutes of receiving the text message, I saw the available time, tried to book it, but the system wouldn't allow me to book it. I informed Jonathan immediately, and he told me that he would look into it. He then informed me that it appears that someone else booked the appointment and that there's nothing he can do. I felt like his empathy when I was told "I guess you didn't book it fast enough." I informed him that I had an event to attend on Saturday morning, which is why I book a week in advance for that Friday evening appointment. I was then told by Jonathan that he doesn't have "favorite clients". I wasn't sure what he meant by that. I figured that as a loyal customer who gets a haircut from Jonathan religiously, every single week, there would be some sort of accommodation since this was not my fault. I booked in advance, I followed protocol, and was even willing to rearrange my schedule for this apparent scheduling issue that was, again, not my fault. While expressing how inconvenienced I would be because of this, Jonathan proceeded to tell me that "it's all business". When I told Jonathan that I wish I were informed prior to "the day before" so that I would be given the opportunity to make other arrangements, he kindly informed me that he only checks his schedule one day in advance. I thought to myself, how convenient for me. I have been quite accommodating as a customer for many years. In the past, I have gone to the shop, sat there for 20 minutes, and then another barber would let me know that Jonathan isn't there (this was after a scheduled appointment), I would text Jonathan, and I would receive a "oh, my bad, I had an emergency, sorry for not telling you". I have gone another time, running a few minutes late, parked right outside the shop, and was told that he can't see me. I have gone and he's running late with other customers, and I would just sit waiting, not complaining, and just add more money on the meter for my car. Other times I would get texts asking if I could come earlier or later because someone cancelled or he has an emergency, and I would be accommodating. I tried to be the customer that I would want to have. I never went to YELP to complain about any and every little inconvenience. I believe that this situation was not handled with any level of professionalism, and as a paying consumer, I feel that this should be known. read more

See, Jonathan Vasquez at Lincoln Square Barber Shop has been cutting my hair for more than a year, and I'm only just now getting around to praising his talent. Shame on me. I've had some great experiences at Lincoln Square Barber Shop. The place is clean and the presentation is an eclectic mix of everything a barber is and should be. I've got a cut from 2 barbers, Patrick and Jonathan. Had a great time with both, but I see Jonathan regularly. He was recommended to me by a family member. His service is great and the discourse is makes it an enjoyable experience. The best part of course is that I've always left with a super sharp haircut, as Jonathan takes his time and pays attention to detail. Seemed like a fair price point ($25 cash before tip), and saw good reviews so went for it. Sam was a nice guy, but disappointed with the quality/not really a barber. Told him what I was looking for from the beginning (trim what I walked in with, nothing complicated). After 15 minutes, he showed me a mirror to see if were done haha? I told him the top should be a little shorter, the sides are not blended at all, and the front is uneven. He said no problem and after 5 minutes of not sure what happened, it looked exactly the same. He was a nice guy, so I did not want to be rude. There was literally no one else in the shop waiting, so I figured he would of taken more time/done a more thorough job. The "neck shave and warm towel" at the end was also lack luster. He used a straight razor on my neck maybe 3 or 4 times unevenly (at least he did not cut me). Got random little patches near the nape of my neck (nearly every other barber I have had makes sure to clean up the visible parts of your neck well). Hot towel just meant wipe the remaining shaving cream off the back of your neck. Unfortunately, I will need another hair cut/trim to clean this up. read more

Well I guess I will be the first bad review here. I was a returning customer who was very happy with the first haircut that I got here. To say that I was appalled by the haircut this time would be an understatement. I'll be honest the hair cutting with you turned away from the mirrors instead of facing it threw me off. The fact that the haircut was shorter than I asked for was the least of my concern. Combed over the hair looked ok after the cut but when I got home and was able to view it in the light I could see all of the glaring mistakes. The top of my hair was unevenly cut and length decreased right to left. The hair at my temples was buzzed off to where you could see my scalp but the sideburns were longer. This combination created a bowl cut on the left side of the head where the length differed and wasn't blended. My bangs were left so long that they were twice the length of the top of my head. With tons of product and combing over I'll hopefully be able to get it looking better. I am really disappointed that I had such a polar experience to the haircut that I received from Aaron. Definitely will have to keep looking for a new barber shop. read more

Alright before I go on I need to tell you guys that I just had the best haircut of my entire life at this place. Yeah you read that right. I'm visiting Chicago and was badly in need of a haircut and beard trim. I called 30 minutes before getting there and they squeezed me in for an appointment with Mat (I think that's his name). When I got there the feel of the shop is old school but super clean. Nice comfortable chairs. My barber offered interesting small talk and asked me what cut I wanted. I showed him a picture and we were on our way. Once we were done, my barber told me how he styled my hair and he talked me through the whole process. They are cash only so after grabbing cash from the ATM I asked about buying product too because it was that good. Unfortunately I was a little short on cash but they gave the product to me anyways in exchange for my change and a pack of Reese's I had in my pocket. My haircut is 10/10, my barber was 10/10, cost 10/10, and the service was 12/10. I'll be back here every time I'm in Chicago. read more

I've been trying to find 'my' barber in Chicago for about 6 months, and was hoping that LS Barbershop would fit the bill. It's nearby, is locally-owned, and seems to have a good rep. Unfortunately I don't think I'll be returning. On my first appointment, my barber wasn't there when I arrived. I thought that a little curious since they seem very particular about appointment times on their website, but figured it might just be there as a tone-setting statement. I ended up waiting about 15 minutes past my appointment time. The cut I received was good, and the barber did take his time even though he was behind the clock so to speak, but there really wasn't any mention of the fact that my appointment was delayed. On my second appointment, I arrived 8 minutes late. Now I know--this is my fault. But sometimes life doesn't stick to the schedule. When I walked in the door, I was immediately asked if I was the appointment booked for my time slot. When I confirmed, I was told that since I hadn't called and was outside the allowed time my spot had been given away and that I was now at the bottom of the walk-in order, and that there was no guarantee I'd get a cut that day at all. Sure, I'll feed the meter for an indeterminate amount of time just in case I get a haircut. As I turned to walk out the door, I was told, "I'm trying to run a business here." I assume that means the person that said that was the owner. It's one thing to be inconsistent, it's another thing to be rude. Probably not going to book another appointment. read more

After going to a bunch of local and chain salons for awhile and having an inconsistent experience, I gave LSBS a shot years ago and been going there monthly since. I have alopecia areata (random patches of hair loss from time to time) and they were very accommodating. This place is friendly, chill, and has a great location near restaurants, shops, and local transportation. Great place for a haircut and shave with good company and music. Keep in mind that this is a cash only place and weekend prices are a little higher. Make sure you book a reservation either online or calling in. They take walk ins but they usually are booked up, so check availability on their website. I'm typically in and out within 30 minutes. read more
