I cannot remember when I last cut my hair. I think it was during mid-January 2020, just before Chinese New Year. It's been a custom in our household to cut your hair just before the lunar New Year. I usually cut my hair 1x every 2 months but COVID-19 sure changed those plans. You see, I have fine hair and when it grows long the natural curls appear and it becomes a chore to get ready before leaving the house. I like short hair because it's low maintenance and cost efficient - - I don't need to use much shampoo. :P March 23, 2020 - State of Hawaii has declared Stay-At-Home and only essential workers are to continue reporting to work. Many businesses were forced to temporarily close, which includes hair salons and barber shops. My hair started to grow quite long where it bothered me. I particularly don't care when my hair touches my ear so I trimmed the ear area 2x. I then noticed my hair starting to curl where people in my immediate circle started commenting. The hair in my back neck area started to curl. I wasn't a happy camper. May 29, 2020 Friday - State of Hawaii has given approval for hair and nail salons, barber shops and other personal service providers to reopen on Oahu. I was thrilled and decided to hold off a bit as many swarmed to get their hair cut. By the time I called my regular stylist, I was advised to wait over a week as the first week was booked solid. With social distancing came with the extra steps for salons to prep and clean up. More time is needed for an appointment, therefore, the number of available appointments will naturally decrease. The last week was a scorcher. I recall waking up in the middle of the night because it was warm and uncomfortable. Some of my hair was wet - - YUCK! Saturday rolled along and it was HUMID HUMID HUMID. It was so unbearable. Just before my shift at my part-time job was about to end, I decided to take a chance and pop my head into Linda's Barber Shop (LBS). I've been checking out this place as there were so many people waiting outside patiently for a haircut last week. To my delight, I didn't see anyone waiting outside and when I walked in, there were just several people getting a haircut. I was asked to write my name on the list and read their disclosure. I chuckled at the end because by me signing their indemnity agreement, I cannot demand monetary claims should I catch the COVID-19 virus during my haircut. Cannot remember the exact wording but do recall "I cannot sue them....." Onto the haircut, the stylist did use quite a bit of time prepping for my haircut. She cut up a plastic garbage bag and it was draped over me. I noticed a poster board on top where numbers were associated with certain hair styles. By informing my stylist the number, she'd have an idea of what kind of haircut I'm expecting. Before starting, the stylist asked how I part my hair. She turned on the shears and started to cut the excess curls. In between she'd use the scissors to trim a little bit here and there. My regular hair stylist takes about an hour to cut my hair by this cut at LBS took about 15 minutes. Immediately, I felt instant comfort from my haircut. But when I looked at the sides and workmanship, it was evident the job was barely satisfactory. The sides were clearly uneven and witnessed some areas where some hairs were sticking out. When it was time to pay, my haircut was a flat rate of $15, about 1/3 the cost of my regular haircut. It is unfortunate my regular stylist couldn't take me in sooner but with the given conditions, LBS got the job done. To be frank, I'm not sure if I'll ever come back to LBS to get a haircut again. I bin going to Linda for about 2years now, I just had got off of work from a long day, figured to get a hair cut I went here and noticed there was a lot of people , I wasn't tryna wait long for a haircut so I was gonna leave and come back another time, Linda stops me and tells me it would be quick she only got 1 head, I'm think the one in the seat I told her ok she finished the one in her seat, cuts another person's hair, and then cuts another person's hair this is a hr later I'm so angry at this point I end up walking out, every time I go there I make sure to take care this lady w/ a nice tip regardless how my hair comes out it's always a hit or miss nvr was consistent, it was just convenient because the place was on the way to my house this was by far the most unprofessional, disrespectful move I won't be going back to this place read more

We've been coming here for years. Always went to Linda or the other ladies. Took my son last month to get a haircut by the husband, it was probably the worst haircut he's ever received. I'm not one to say anything so I didn't ... he had so many steps in his hair , nothing was cleaned up in the back.. today my dad took him to go get a haircut and sure enough he got the same guy and same exact bad haircut. This time I said something. The steps in his hair we're so visible and his lineup on his front was crooked (look at the picture). I called and and he said come back someone will fix it. I went back and asked if one of the ladies could fix it... he then got upset speaking in his language. The lady was reassuring me he could fix it, I told her no this is the 2nd time he's messed up.. I rather you fix it. So she did , but during the whole time my son was getting his hair fixed he obviously was talking about me. Going on and on like I was the one who was in the wrong . Rude experience overall. When I asked for a basic undercut with a tapered fade in the back. The employee gave me a weird look, then asked me what I meant and kept suggesting a sidecomb. Which made me think maybe she wasnt capable or didnt want to do that. Essentially no attempt to create what i asked, ended up with a sidecomb and then charged 23$. I gave them 30 and when she gave me my $7 change she told me you give that straight to her (my barber), as if i was obligated to give her a tip. I was actually gunna give her a whole 10 for tip but because you wanted to open your mouth ill just give the 7 and were actually lucky you received any tip after that. Horrible business practices. I went to Linda's yesterday because the person who regularly cuts my hair was not available. I told the barber that I wanted just a trim, similar to the person's hair cut that she had just finished. I knew something was wrong when she brought out the razor and started cutting a lot from the side. Long story short, it ended up extremely short! I should have known better seeing all of the military guys getting their hair cut there. However, I did see a few guys who had decent hair cuts with other barbers. This is a good place if you want a military hair cut. If you want just a trim, I would go somewhere else. read more

I have been to this barber a number of times of the course of last couple of months and I have always received a pretty good haircut. While waiting for my turn I have witnessed some displeased customers but I attribute most of the interactions to poor communication between the barber and the customer. The prices are reasonable and the hours are more than accommodating in the sleepy town of Kaneohe. Recieved the worst haircut from here ever today. Asked for a small trim and i told and showed my barber the lengths i wanted. She went and just started chopping it all off. I asked for my sideburns to be cut just below my eye level, and they cut it straight across ABOVE my ears. 1-2 inches above eye level. Barber didn't speak english. And I was in there for over an hour. Linda came out and gave my barber a look of disappointment. I even have rat bites on the back. Never coming back. read more

I've been here twice and received excellent hair cuts and beard trims both times from Linda (I learned she runs the shop with her husband and sister). I've tried all the shops in Kailua and Kaneohe and for my money this is the clearly the best barber shop on the Windward side. Some of the other places are poorly run, filthy, and/or not that friendly. This place is clean, friendly, and efficient. Worth noting, it's first come - first served but on Thursday and Friday she'll stay late to finish the last customer. I highly recommend Linda's Barber Shop. read more

Best men's haircut in Kaneohe. I've tried the rest, trust me they all suck (except mikes, it's alright). All the stylist are good at Linda's, i think the guy cuts the best short fades. The ladies are better with the more "fancy" stuff and Linda can cut anything, she's the best but the line for her is always long. $14 for a men's cut, can't go wrong, I just shoot um a 20 and they remember you. My name is Austen Anduha Linda if you're seeing this learn something from this experience, I've been seeing Linda for the past 4-5 years growing up throughout school, I ONLY went to her specifically because I've had terrible things happen to my hair by many different stylists, one day after moving home I needed a buzz so headed to Linda's shop 2 minutes from home. The only male in the shop that "used to seep up the leftover hair by other stylist" asked to cut my hair, he was very nice about it so I politely turned the offer down and said "Oh! Thank you but I think I'll just wait for Linda", he began rambling on in Vietnamese talking to the other lady's in a hostile way. It got to the point where he began to throw his hands in the air, why'll Lindas telling him that speaking that way was bad for business and to stop. I sat there quietly when I really should've just walked out the door, anyways I got in the chair and left with my face on the floor, it was the second to the last WORST haircut I've ever gotten. "Still tipped and was polite tho". Anyways went back 3 or 4 more times and stopped because she knows she wasn't doing a good job and still let me walk out the door looking the way I was. Bad service! Walked in for a haircut waiting for the Linda who Is the only person I would have cut my hair at this particular establishment. The women working next to her knows I only have Linda cut my hair, she was nice and motioned me to come to her chair. I said I'm waiting for Linda, no thank you! Linds then said she has another hair cut after helping the gentlemen she was with. I believe she said that so I would agree to letting her employee cut my hair as no one else was in the shop. I've had my hair pretty botched when having her other employees cut my hair. For this I give her one star as it was obvious why she did not want to cut my hair. Linda was so lame today! My 12yr old son went twe saw there was no line as soon as he got on the chair 4 guys pulled up & so like usual we waited for him in the stall by Goodyear. He came out in about 20 min which seemed pretty quick! He was unhappy & felt like she didn't really care, it was obviously a rush job his forehead wasn't straight his trim was not even trimmed or faded right he asked for a short straight top with a fro hawk down the back but he came out with some lame box looking top & he didn't know how to tell her he didn't feel right. I had no time to wait because I had other things to do so my sister went back & let Linda know that her nephew had a bad experience, showed her the pictures of his cut & Linda didn't like that she got all snappy & started getting loud. It's just bad customer service. All I can think of is my son being treated like a quickie no respect for his hard earned money & in a blink she was on to the next knowing he wouldn't tell her he was disappointed. I absolutely love this place! I have pretty much had the same haircut the entire time I have been in the military, high and tight flat top, skin on the sides. It doesn't really leave much room for error and it is almost impossible to correct if it gets messed up. Linda does a perfect job, every time! She even brings out a straight blade to shave the back and sides. There are times you may wait a while as it is all first come, first serve but she will save your place in line if you want to go eat or shop for a bit. Cash only and her prices are reasonable. Dear Lindas staff, You are truly talented! I've had bad haircuts before, but this one... this one takes the cake. Let's start at the beginning shall we? Here I was hoping to try a new barber, maybe one a little closer to home, maybe one a little cheaper or more convenient. So I take a trip up the street to the new neighborhood barber, Linda's! How bad could it be? Well when I walked in I was immediately, but quietly invited to a seat. I thought, "hey that's a little strange, but I'm glad I don't have to wait".(more on this later) When the barber (NOT Linda, I was to learn) asked how I wanted my hair cut I replied "tapered up the sides, cut half off the top and straight across the back". I was immediately set upon by the barber next to us who seemed to think I wanted a "box" across the back. I kindly replied, "no, not a box, just straight and tapered rather than to a point". After some back and forth, I guess we agreed to disagree what to call it. But my barber seemed to understand well enough and she began to cut my hair. As she went about her business I noticed how quiet and uneasy the atmosphere was in the shop. Right then I saw a woman pacing around inside. I knew she wasn't a customer, but worked there. I thought she might be another barber waiting for more clients, but when another man came in, they asked him to take a seat and they'd be with him soon. My haircut continued and the woman would grab the broom and sweep hair fairly often. I wasn't bothered until she literally swept hair from underneath my and my barbers feet while she was still cutting! When no one said anything to her, despite being clearly annoyed, I knew this had to be Linda herself. I never confirmed my suspicion that it was Linda for sure, but it was obviously the owner of the business, monitoring her minions as they did her bidding. When she was done she came back and, no exaggeration, lurked right over the shoulders of the two barbers. And there she stayed. For the rest of my sentence. There was little I could do but wait her out so I did my best to smile as my barber cut. As my adventure continued I watched 3 men (local Hawaiian men) come and go, all with the same skin fade. I didn't mind that my cut was a little longer, but I began to worry as I my barber cut more and more of my hair.(snip, snip, snip) I thought "well maybe she's just not done yet and it'll all come together in the end"(snip, snip, snip) i saw what I thought was clearly a mistake where she cut too much off (snip snip snip) but was confident she just wasn't through with the rest of the haircut and it'd all look right in the end (snip, snip, snip). Well after about 40 minutes of watching in 'shear' horror, she finally announced she was all done. I looked at what was left on my head and I've now got extremely short hair on both sides of my widows peak (which makes me look like I've got a receding hairline, I'm 28, btw) and huge white walls above my ears - like a good 1/2 inch of no hair. The back, of course, was taken down to a skin fade, but at least it was flat across the back. I got up and paid and watched as my barber quickly ran behind the curtain to eat a sandwich before another customer came in. I quickly escaped before Linda broomed beneath my feet again. As I came home and showered, hoping it would be better after a rinse, I see in the mirror my head looks like an old football with a receding hairline. I'd give 0 stars if I could for both the awful haircut and the awkward, confrontational experience. If you're a local, go for it. They look like they do a decent skin fade... if you're into looking the same as everyone else who comes out of the shop. If you're a white guy, with white people hair, seek help elsewhere. read more
