    Suttons Bay Galleries

I have the most overwhelming urge when I enter this place to spend every last cent I posses on the…read morestunning antique prints, lithographs, engravings, hand colored maps and oil paintings that this gallery has so temptingly laid out...Truly, I ought to wear restraints when I come in here as reason flees me entirely and it seems perfectly logical to purchase more works of art than my home could possibly ever contain. Yes, this gallery is THAT good. Suttons Bay Galleries is owned by the most wonderful couple, Piper and Harry Goldson. Their collection is carefully crafted and offers works from all over the world. I strongly suspect that they offer only pieces that they personally love - so much care has gone into the selection here, it is not a typical gallery at all. The quality of the works here is absolutely astonishing, as is Piper and Harry's knowledge of them. Utterly friendly and beyond helpful, they are always happy to provide further details or information upon request. Their collection includes items priced across the board, so anyone can find something lovely to take home with them. While they carry many types of antique media, of special note is their truly exceptional selection of 1st Octavo Audubon's. I inquired about Audubon's crows today and within minutes, Piper had located 4 that might do the trick! That being said, so many other artists are represented here - it's best to come into the store, call, or investigate their website (http://www.suttonsbaygalleries.com/) if there is anything in particular that you are looking for. If they don't have it, they may be able to locate it for you or take your name should they come across a piece you are seeking. In addition, they now carry works by two contemporary local artists, Russell Chatham and Bill Hosner. Although they deal primarily in stunning antique prints, these living artists work's are exceptional and seem right at home amongst the other offerings in the gallery. Anything in the gallery can be custom framed (museum quality) and they are happy to ship purchases as well. All purchases come with a statement of authenticity and a writeup of the piece. I've purchased a few pieces from here over the years that I've never seen anywhere else ~ every item here is unique and lovely, and are certain to be pieces you always treasure.

We have purchased several works from Suttons Bay Galleries. The owners are incredibly knowledgeable about fine art in general, and the works they carry in particular. If you are an admirer or collector of high-quality fine art, and if you happen to be in the area, you definitely should stop in to see what they have and get to know the owners.

Together these items totaled over $107 dollars. THE BAD: While looking at the Switchables, an older, small framed female store associate with black glasses (I think) came up to us and said "May I HELP you?" in a very condescending tone. The reason for the tone was that we wanted to purchase the floor model Hummingbird ornament, and I was simply crouching down and looking in the cabinet below the Switchables display for the proper empty box, so that we would be appropriately charged. I explained to this unfriendly female associate what I was doing, and at that point she simply gave my wife and I a sour disapproving look and then brusquely brushed by us, making physical contact with my wife, and went through a door into a back office. Not once did she acknowledge or apologize for the "bump". If it wasn't for this last part, trust me - I wouldn't necessarily be on here sharing this. But I think that truly crossed the line of good store etiquette. I apologized for helping myself to the lower cabinet to look for the proper box, but in this day and age of ever increasing self-service, I didn't think I was necessarily being out of line. And for the record, my wife and I are middle-aged, decently dressed, middle class people - not your typical problematic customers. THE GOOD: In contrast, we had an EXCELLENT experience with Teysen associate Kelly, who assisted me with the slipper purchase, and encouraged us to go into the gift store to look for additional items in the first place. Kelly is definitely an asset to Teysen's, unlike how I perceive the older employee described above, based on our one encounter with her. EPILOGUE: I submitted this same information to the Teysen staff via their website on 7/16, but as of today 7/25 I have received no response. This post isn't meant to embarrass the store - but to inform them of a situation I'm sure they'd definitely want to know about.

You knew they keft s job to come to your business and you do this? Do you know what youve done to them? You just dont care and based on reviews it seems this is who you people are.....shame on you.
