I moved to Petoskey from New York City and Washington, DC. I expect excellence from a salon. It took me several tries to finally find a salon I trusted to cut my hair. I finally found Talulu. At Talulu, I leave the salon and my hair looks like a news broadcaster's hair on TV. I get the same quality cut and color that I got on Park Avenue. They are consistant and professional. I think it is unfortunate some of the reviews on here. I have been getting salon services at Talulu Beauty Lounge since their doors have opened. I also used them on my wedding day. Although I normally get my hair done by Stacey (owner) I have had it done by two other girls on last minute appointments when Stacey was not available. I can say that never have I had a bad experience with any of the stylists attitudes or skill levels. As for my wedding day services.. Stacey and the girls came to my home to get myself and all of my bridesmaids fancied up for my big day. The ONLY problem I had during this was a bridesmaid not prepared knowing what she wanted done with her hair. Therefore, it didn't turn out how she wanted it done. I would hardly blame the stylist for this. And yes, her hair got re done with no complaints. As for spa services.. I regularly get my eyebrows waxed at Talulu Beauty Lounge as I KNOW my eye brows will look the way I want them to when I leave. Sam is amazing with her waxing skills (and hair too!) With every pedicure and manicure I have no been disappointed. The chairs are comfortable and the girls are always smiling and making you feel at home. I tend to always use Colleen to get my pedicure as she is still learning, but always does a great job. I visited this salon to have my makeup and nails done for a wedding in northern Michigan. I was incredibly impressed. The makeup artist was outstanding. I asked for a bohemian look with paler skin and darker eyes to match a gold and black tassel dress I was wearing. She matched the color, tone and hue perfectly. The makeup lasted all night, too, which was great, because I cried twice during the wedding. I told her I was a crier and she laughed and said no problem. I've lived in San Francisco and London and worked with a lot of makeup artists. This girl was top notch. The girl who did my nails also did great work and was thoughtful and accommodating. She was willing to change my color and redo completely when I decided the polish came out darker than I had expected. She also went out of her way and helped me fix my hair for the wedding despite not having a hair appointment. This salon has a decor that feels magical and whimsical, a warm champagne and bubbles kind of feel. Everyone was friendly, punctual and took pride in their work. Prices were not cheap, but fair given the attention to detail and level of customer service. Overall, a highly trained beauty staff with a friendly midwest vibe. Thumbs up! read more

Went here for the first time today, Got a trim and my roots done. The dequor is beautiful when you walk in, and the hair stylist was nice. My hair is naturally brown and i dye it blonde. The last time i got it done at a different salon, my roots turned out an orange color (not what i wanted AT ALL). Today, they were able to fix the orange color, and the brown color where my roots had grown in. The overall color turned out beautiful. However, i just asked to get my split ends cut off, but my hair looks much shorter than i wanted. It ended up being about $90. Overall i would reccomend this salon. read more

If I could give the salon 0 stars I would! Upon entering the salon, your taken by how beautifully it's decorated. It appears it's a top notch salon, but it's deceiving, and the experience only goes down hill from there. I was recently part of a bridal party that had their hair, makeup and nails done at Talulu Beauty Lounge. The only stylist that had a clue how to do hair was the owner, all the other stylists appeared to have never done hair a day in their life. These girls were very inexperienced it was laughable. The bridal party agreed, we would have been better off doing our own hair, and NONE of us are stylists. To make matters worse, the price tag of $75 a head was crazy. No ones hair held up, even the brides bottom was falling out by the ceremony. The mani/pedi's I witnessed were awful, chipping and peeling after 1 day. Multiple girls had to have touch-ups on the wedding day. A french tip, with squiggly lines, for $62?! As a comparison, I had my toes down a week before the wedding and the French tip just chipped on one of toes, the rest still look perfect. The makeup artist was very good, but paying $40 to have your only your eyes done, ridiculous! Overall the place is not what it appears to be, anyone looking to book Talulu for your wedding, beware!! One last thing, they overcharged the party by $200+, for services not rendered. The bride was able to receive a refund, promptly I will add. As someone who doesn't put much thought into my hair, meaning...I'm not too fussy, picky, or otherwise particular about it so long as the cut is even, Stacy has truly turned my world upside down. I now have put entirely too much thought, product, and money into my mane than I care to talk about. I now have a hair cut and color not even close to what I requested and am $150 poorer for it. Let me state that I have no qualms with paying good money for a quality cut and color. The problem is, I didn't receive either. Having scheduled a balayage, I brought in photos and noted that I do not like caramel tones as I think they're brassy in my hair, and also showed her the specific length/cut I was after. I ended up with brassy, unblended tiger stripes all over my head. Not ALL of my hair was awful, but there were plenty of spots...including my bangs (literally, all of my bangs were brassy and literally went from dark brown immediately to orange in a stark line) to make me look ridiculous. Not to mention the cut is about 3 inches shorter than anticipated, and even shorter in the back. I will say that Stacy seems very friendly, and did offer to refund me $100 of the $150 I paid, assuming just for the color. Hair grows out, I get that...so the cut was at that point a wash to me. Fast forward past the stupid amount of tears I cried and anxiety I felt, to me having to take time off of work so that I may go to another salon to get it fixed. I can say I've never seen such a look of confusion on a stylist's face before. My new girl fixed me up and salvaged my hair color, but in the end still had to cut MORE hair off my already too short length just to even out the layers & bottom. I am truly appalled having now seen photos of the back of my hair that Talulu let me walk out of the salon the way that I did. In the end, I have spent way too much time, effort, and money to be entirely and completely amazed and disappointed and feel I should be reimbursed 100%. Shame on the previous reviews, they couldn't be further from the truth. My experience has been fabulous from A to Z. First of all, Stacey the owner is a delight and immediately made me feel at home and comfortable. She knows her stuff and takes the extra time to consult not only up front, but through the entire process. My hair is better than I could've imagined and the color is on point and gorgeous with a beautiful shine. The products are divine and truly make the difference. Stacey went out of her way to more than accommodate my needs and I'm hooked, all of my hair care needs were more than met and I'll be a customer for the long haul. Stacey and her crew are top notch! We booked appts for my daughter's wedding. There were 7 of us having hair and makeup done. Stacey and the other hair stylist were phenomenal. They had a corner of the salon reserved for us and we were able to bring in a catered lunch and drinks. Everyone's hair looked amazing and lasted through the entire wedding and reception - even through wind and a full night of dancing! Mari their makeup artist was amazing. The bride's makeup was perfect and she loved it. As the mother of the bride and a non makeup wearer I was skeptical but Mari put me totally at ease and I was ecstatic with how my makeup looked. All in all, the whole experience was a totally fun and relaxing afternoon and everyone loved the outcome! read more

So... As a loyal customer to Talula Beauty Lounge in Petoskey... One that sends as many people there as possible-- always recommends it... I scheduled my haircut for tomorrow a good month ago and called to cancel today since I now have to work .. They want to charge me a $50 cancellation fee. I am beyond pissed. Locals are the reason that place stays busy during "off" season-- we are the ones going their for hair and make up for weddings and proms and other occasions... And pay the ridiculous prices that go along w going there.. We choose to pay the high price, we choose to go there. They choose to treat us locals like shit, you know why? Because they can-- because we let them do terrible things to loyal customers. Until people like you and I put our foot down and say NO mo! They will keep charging these fees. I choose to no longer go there or recommend that place. You guys should be ashamed of yourself. It takes an entire days pay JUST to be able to go there for a basic service and now you want to throw this on top of it. BS. You lose. read more

I contracted Talulu for hair/makeup for our wedding- what a mistake. I booked them about 7 months in advance and was told we would have two people contracted- one for hair and one for makeup. First of all, they rescheduled my trial about 4 times even though I had booked it months in advance. I don't live in Northern Michigan and it was difficult to plan it in the first place. While I was at the trial, the woman told me she was the only person coming for our wedding to do 4 people's hair and makeup and we would have to start 2 hours earlier than we had initially planned. When I called to ask for a second person like the contract said, they assured me they would find someone. Long story short, they ended up sending someone who could only curl hair and the girl ended up sitting there not doing anything the entire time. By the end, we were all rushed trying to get 8 services done by one person- no time for touchups and my sister missed part of the first look. The owner "waived" a travel fee that was outrageous to begin with ($300 for them to come to our house which is 15 miles away from the salon!) but took no responsibility for the entire issue saying she couldn't control how fast the stylists were working and completely ignoring the fact that the salon contracted two full people and sent an apprentice who curled hair but charged us full price (which wasn't cheap!). Your wedding day isn't supposed to feel rushed and stressful and because of their flakiness, it did. Wouldn't recommend. read more

Got my hair/makeup done here the Friday and Saturday of my wedding weekend and was so happy I did. They did a great job both days - both Stacey and Mari really listened to what I wanted and I loved the results. I didn't have a wedding party so spent a lot of time in the salon alone, and all the girls there were so fun and nice that I felt like I was hanging out with my friends! read more
