We came back to a cold, wet Manchester and decided to go to Linguine and try and get a table. I walk past this restaurant many times a week and there are always people in it and often very busy. We got there after 6.30pm and was told by the Manager that our table was required by 8pm, after looking at his tablet again, we had to be out by 7.30pm. Not sure how many covers there are but there were only four other tables taken. We sit down, tucked by the bar area and look at the menu. I asked a waiter which wine goes well with seafood and was given an idiots guide to the wine menu. His was Italian and his English wasn't good so I opted for a house white. Our food was served by another waiter as I wasn't sure whether the earlier gentleman was just a barman. We didn't have to wait long for our seafood pasta and pizza. The food came and it tasted very good. Unfortunately, I did not take photos as our service wasn't as friendly as I would have liked. The manager served our food. We ate our tasty food and kept looking around and seeing not many other customers arrive and wondering why he would lie about all the tables being occupied. We were dressed smart/casual for a Saturday night. Sadly, we didn't have any starters or desserts as we were very time conscious which also ruined our experience of the food. We asked for the bill, paid less than 10% tip and went over the road to the local Co-op to buy dessert and walked home feeling disappointed that we felt rushed and would have preferred to have dined in a different restaurant or got takeaway. As mentioned earlier, I am hoping for a better experience when I return in a couple of weeks time.

Plates all cleared we started on mains which included steaks, chicken, veal, lasagna and the gluten free spaghetti with spicy arrabiata sauce, again all clean plates. We shared a dessert as everyone was full, it was supposed to be sticky toffee pudding but was actually a chocolate lava cake, glad it ended up as that as it was absolutely amazing. The owner who was our server was great fun, brought humor to the table and was very humble when praised for the excellent service and food. Will definitely be back when I'm next in the area.

My main course was the steak which over cooked . I like the fact that they have split the place into 2 sections so there is now a bar area where you can have a cocktail or glass of wine before your meal. They also offer a small snack menu in the bar if you just want something light and quick to eat. The service was friendly and efficient and the food was good. My calamari was massive and cooked just right. The goats cheese crostini was a big hit with my friend and the bit I sampled melted in the mouth. The seafood pizza hit the spot but having looked at the pasta dishes I wish I'd ordered one of those instead as they looked so fresh and yummy. Anyway it gives me an excuse to go back and try Vida again.

The site used to house Da Vinci's, a lovely Italian restaurant that was a Sale institution. Many a low key birthdays with my friends was held here, where at the end the lovely wait staff would cover a piece of cake with sweets and strawberry sauce before dimming the lights, playing happy birthday over the speakers & making you feel embarrassed but wonderfully special at the same time. The service was a little hit & miss but the food was great. I miss Da Vinci's. The refurbishment has turned a quarter of the old restaurant into a bar. They now have a cocktail menu and a nice range of seating at the front of the site. We first went in on valentines day, this seemed to be the initial day they were reopen, and then again last night (28th Feb). Both times the bar was chaos with us waiting a long time for a pint and a glass of fizz. Over 10 minutes between ordering and getting the drinks. It seems the bar simply can't cope with having to make restaurant drinks orders and serve the people at the bar. We only ate last night, not on valentines. They have cut a lot off the menu and replaced it with, for example, some of those Italian classics - beef burgers. Hmmmm. Should a restaurant climb on the popular bandwagon and start serving trendy things that aren't faithful to its heart and soul? My money's on no, but each to their own. There now seem to be a plethora of young, keen as mustard wait staff running around with plates of food. I spotted some dishes on slates, I can see what they are trying to do but there was never anything wrong with their old starter plates. Our waitress is possibly studying drama based on her opener when she greeted us - a very loud 'good evening ladies & gentlemen!' to just the two of us..... We ordered a steak, my favourite pasta (thankfully this had survived the menu cull) and, as always, a garlic pizza bread but to come out with our mains. The bread arrived and we just checked with her that the other food was on its way. She said 'of course' then literally ran to the kitchen. It clearly wasn't. One flimsy excuse later we ate our bread sans mains. The other dishes arrived literally as I bit into my last mouthful of pizza bread. 'Just in time' the waitress announced as she put down our remaining food. Hmmmmm. I was offered parmesan but only given a tiny amount, similarly stingy with the black pepper. I considered calling her back to ask for more but despite the number of staff it was impossible to get anyone's attention. My pasta was not as good as it used to be, I finished it but didn't enjoy it, possibly a different chef? The Mr said his steak was under seasoned with the dolcelatte sauce unpleasant. The creamed spinach was not good either although the chunky chips were lovely. Other good point - the lovely young lad who brought over our wine. Overall the loss of a decent, local restaurant and a sad day for Sale town centre.

Everyone enjoyed their food. I had a superb chicken liver pate to begin with. This used to be one of the big starters was back in the 1970's along with prawn cocktail. It was a good portion and a delightful taste. This was followed by an equally good, well - cooked and beautifully presented moist sea bass fish; I think the bass was on the specials. Every element on my plate was excellent. Dessert became a challenge as we had eaten (and drank) so well on savoury stuff so my wife and I shared a sticky toffee pudding. I'd say this was the best sticky toffee pudding I've eaten in a very long time. Again thumping with flavour while light and a generous portion. Great coffees too. The service was great, friendly and efficient and a good ambience even the pricy beer wouldn't stop me returning in a heartbeat.

There are two levels but I prefer to eat downstairs as upstairs caters for bigger group bookings with longer tables for parties and can get a little rowdy. Open every weekday from 12-2pm for lunch, dinner time begins at 5.30 until 10pm. There are specials to be had daily and an Early Bird menu from 5.50-6.45pm which offers any pasta or pizza plus a sweet of the day for just £9.50. The Italian Job opens late on Friday and Saturday when you can dance the night away in the disco with the bar open until 1.30am. Prices are great: £8.50 for a ravishing risotto and the food is freshly prepared with good quality ingredients. It also has a takeaway service, perfect for those days when you can't cook, won't cook. The app continued to extend the delivery time until we had been waiting two hours and fifteen and the restaurant was due to close. At this point the Deliveroo rider had been waiting at the restaurant for 15 minutes. We were growing increasingly anxious that we wouldn't get our food (that they would cancel the order) and then we wouldn't be able to get food because it was getting so late. The app had no way to contact the restaurant, but said to call the restaurant directly. I tried to call the restaurant multiple times and recieved both line busy messages and had my calls be hung up on. We called repeatedly and repeatedly got no answer. Finally, at 10:25 the rider got our pizza (2.5 hours after we had ordered), but we didn't get to eat until 10:40... A bit frustrating. Like I said, the food is good, but the lack of timeliness, the lack of communication... it was incredibly unprofessional and honestly anxiety inducing. At least have a message on your restaurant number. And if you're SO busy you can't do delivery... don't offer it as an option.

Anyway, as a recent resident of Sale I decided to have a look inside Serendipitea - the name alone had me sold. Stepping in from the hustle of Washway Road it's an oasis of calm in there, sleek, clean yet homely. The owner was incredibly welcoming and we got to chatting, they've been open 10 months and business has been good. Whilst I was in there a steady stream of customers came in, some ordered and stayed, some ordered and took out. At first I was only feeling like a hot brew, so opted for an Earl Grey which was from Stash Tea Company - it tasted delicious, not had a tea hit me in such a satisfying way in a long time. Anyway, after that I decided to grab a light bite as well so went for their scrambled eggs on brown toast. It was absolutely delicious. They have an all day breakfast menu which I'd definitely be trying again more thoroughly. They also have freshly prepared baguettes, paninis, jacket potatoes - and cake. I've found my Central Perk.
