If you want VIP you pay a little more and walk right to the front of the line. After you pay you are fair game. The ghost and zombies are there to get you. They pick and scare and work you as you get in line to get into the house. Fantastic makeup and commitment as they make you jump. Once your group is let in, you are in for a treat. I am not going to ruin any surprises cause I bet they will be back next year and I hope so. The smell of the place really contributed to the whole experience. That is what we like. This review is supposed to be about the Slaughterhouse. We got there early because with our SlipKnoT meet and greet we got in early to meet the band and be one of the first inside the haunted attraction. The entire experience was fun. The inside was very dark in places where i couldn't see a thing and got a bit lost inside trying to find my way. I tried to turn my screen on to see the way and i was yelled at saying "no phones" which I can understand but we should be able to know where we are going. I also tried to get a couple sneak peek shots inside for the Yelp community!! The attraction was fun and it looked well put together. The costumes were not just face paint either. It looked like they spent some time putting together the costume. It is a drag when the employees do not put in any effort. These guys were NOT like that. One guy even swung over the top of the group. I think anyone would enjoy this whether SlipKnoT was there or not.

I'm sure I've been here since my last review was posted, but the years do seem to flow and run together. High Points: - The Butter Cow! - Chair Lift ride over part of the Fair Grounds. - Varied Industry, Walnut Center, and Arts Building Exhibits - Seeing Governor Reynolds walk down the main thoroughfare. - Visiting the University of Iowa Booth and touching the trophies. - Watching Families Groom Their Steers for Competition in the Barn. - Enjoying the Pig competition in one of the arenas. - Having a nice Lunch at Stockman's. We also walked around a lot and just watched the diversity of our fellow attendees. There were also a lot of huge baby strollers on one end life's spectrum and many senior scooters on the other. We also appreciated the DART park-and-ride option from the State Capital. It was only $1 each for folks like us that are over 65.

Tried the 3 Little Pigs from Whatcha Smokin and was very let down. Little flavor other than the sauce and super dense for a meatball. The jalapeno dog on a stick was much better but it had the Waukee meat. Tried the bacon chicken ranch egg roll and it was great. One of the best new foods in the history of new foods. We even had a group cut in line lol Enjoyed seeing the doll houses and various crafts. The paintings. The photography. The livestock. Going back a 2nd time because you can't see everything in one day. Recommend for anyone to go at least once a year.
