You will regret getting a haircut by these people unless you are getting a buzz cut. They let a random guy (A 50 year old man who is just visiting the US) cut my hair. I told him to just cut it short by 1 inch then he cut it by 3 inches and wouldn't stop what he was doing after I reminded him for many times. At the end, he wouldn't even blow dry my hair and just let me go while is still wet. I have only three words to this service: WHAT THE FUCK. Sometimes it's difficult to get a good haircut as an Asian male! I'm not sure the name of the woman who did my haircut, but she was from Indonesia (or was it Malaysia...sorry bad memory here). She was super nice, very fast, didn't have to tell her too much detail and she was able to deliver what I wanted! The haircuts I believe are about $15 now? But recommend If you're looking for a good quick Asian haircut during these pandemic times. They also kept their masks on and worked around mine! You'll never find a more affordable perm or men's haircut beyond great clips, particularly because the haircut also includes a hair wash. As a bonus, this also happens to be a family owned business that's been a centerpiece of Pittsburgh's Chinese -- especially Cantonese speaking community. Be mindful that the folks here don't speak a ton of English, but their cuts have been nothing less than quality for great value. read more

Ranky is back and mans this place on the weekdays and at the Squirrel Hill location on weekends. I am thankful to be able to get a decent hair cut that for the most part, is consistent and near Lotus Food oriental mart. Schedules always are subjext to change so I call ahead! Parking is somewhat tricky here but I usually am able to find a spot within a few blocks. They close earlier here and it is a advisable that you call ahead prior to your visit. A few times, I showed up without calling and could not get a haircut. Now you know and like GI JOE, knowing is half the battle. read more

My mom received a fantastic haircut here back when they were more recently opened from someone here, and I couldn't wait to go back for mine. Well 3 months after that the woman who gave my mom her haircut left, and I got a haircut with no shape or body when I specifically picked one out from a picture - looked nothing like it. Chalked it up to a fluke, went back again a year or so later, and she ruined an amazing haircut I got in China a few months before that really just needed a little maintenance. It was then that I found out the stylist my mom had simply came from NY to lend a helping hand or something and isn't coming back, and I had been getting the owner. Came here a third time an final time since I saw somebody else in here who claimed to have a lot of experience. I got a nice shaped haircut that looked just like I imagined... when she styled it in the salon. I asked specifically for something that doesn't make my hair flip outwards with little maintainance (something I have trouble with with most stylists) and she promised it would be fine, and it wasn't the next day. Turns out she didn't really work there all the time anyway and was, once again, just helping out. So... in conclusion, I will never come here again, as much as I want to like this place. My mom, liking the lack of a language barrier and the convenience of being right next to a Chinese grocer, still comes here occasionally but will go to Chinatown in a bigger city at every opportunity her haircuts instead (and they complain about her hair being poorly cut, no surprise there). read more

I've only been here once, but I hope to come here again in the future. Only place in Pittsburgh that I've found so far that can cater adequately to Asian hair (yes, males included), probably because this is the only Chinese hair salon that I know of here. It's not exactly cheap--17 for a haircut without wash, 20 with (for men). I went on a Sunday afternoon, and the wait was pretty long. There were several people ahead of me, although I can't say if this is the norm after only one visit. At the time there were two barbers, one who speaks Cantonese (sounds like HK, although I don't know for sure since I got the other one), and the other speaking Mandarin. My barber was pretty friendly, making conversation and paying really close detail to my hair cutting. They even have those customer loyalty cards with the "buy 10 get one free" deal. The salon was quite filthy. Recently cut hair on both stations and wasn't swept up prior to asking me to sit down. I showed her a photo of the color I wanted of a client she recently did (medium brown all over color). She tells me "yes, no problem". I left with dark chocolate brown. Charged me $80. I told her I was unsatisfied because the color is completely different. She ignored my complaint and said "I only charged you $80, it looks the same". Uhhhh no! read more

I wavered between giving 3 and 4 stars for this place. Lin's cater to people with Asian hair and they did a good job of cutting my hair both times that I went. I like the haircut both times, but the second time that I went I felt like the stylist hurried so that she could take care of the next person in line. I wanted to blow-dry my own bangs because the woman who did it made it look sort of weird. In short, a mixed experience but the price is decent (about $25). Okay. So I finally tried this place. I was very happy with it. BUT it was because it reminded me of the hair salons I go to back home. So if you've never been to a Chinese hair salon ever, and are not Chinese, temper your expectations. If you want the Authentic Chinese Hair Salon Experience, read on. The salon was a little bit grimy. The air smelt a little bit like smoke. But I'm not complaining. Because: There were two ladies working there, one from Malaysia, one (Ms. Chen) who is, I think, from China. I spoke to them in Chinese, which was fun. Ms. Chen suggested that I get layers and pointed to a newspaper clipping of who I think was a photoshopped Zhang Ziyi on the wall, which was surrounded by many magazine and newspaper clippings displaying the most trendy East Asian hairstyles circa 2006. She said a lot of nice things to me. So even though I went in only wanting a trim, I went with her subtle layering idea. Wash: awesome. The cut: She got me to stand up while she cut my hair. Rather revolutionary, but made sense because she wanted to get a sense of my height and my hair length relative to that. She kept recommending layers, but I said I wasn't big on them, so we settled for her abovementioned subtle layer idea. She told me that the best hairdressing gurus were up-to-date on trends, meaning that instead of doing straight cuts, they were willing to experiment with layers, and meaning that she was one of them. I loled. I mean, she was good. But the hyperbole was strong. Then she spent about 20-25 minutes blowdrying it into this inwardly-curving style. It was airy, bouncy, and amazing. But of course, I will never be able to replicate it myself, although she told me how to blowdry my hair properly and recommended a protective spray product to use before blowdrying. Total cost before tip: $35. Ask for Ms. Chen who works on weekends. Oh, and they do gel nails and men's haircuts too. read more

I went to this one-stop for all your beauty needs and wasn't disappointed! No wait time, greeted with a smile, clean atmosphere and great hand massages! I received an amazing gel manicure by SHU-MA! She was so sweet, took her time, paid close attention to detail and had such a great technique! I'm so glad I stopped in today and will be back in a couple of weeks for a pedi and mani! These reviews have been misguiding. This is an excellent place for Asian male haircuts! I've been going to Min's Jazzcuts in Oakland because they have better reviews, but I'm going to start coming here. I've avoided this place for several months now because of the 3 stars, but being that it was Sunday and everything is closed, I had no choice but to go here. I was pleasantly surprised. I was greeted by Cheng who was very receptive, accommodating, and knowledgeable. She took great care in cutting my hair. I judge my haircuts by how good they are on their edge ups, and she took her time and cleaned me up well. She even took the time out to explain to me what shapes I need for my face type and how to comb and style my hair. I'm sorry but for $20 that's amazing service, I'm sure you women get this all the time, but for guys this is typically a MOO point! (A little Friends reference if you caught it ) to me this shows the professionalism, care, and quality that she puts into her work! Thank GOD I got my haircut today!
