We worked with Lion Electric when we moved our office from downstairs to upstairs in our home. The plug in our "new office" wouldn't work for my large Biz Hub Printer - so we called Victor at Lion Electric. He came in, provided a free assessment, explained the issue, how he proposed to solve it, and offered a fair and transparent estimate. He then returned when agreed and had the job completed faster than I anticipated! He had to run new wire from our exterior electrical panel to the office and installed new dedicated plugs for the printer and computer equipment. The work was completed professionally, he protected the flooring while he worked, he cleaned up after, he even labeled the new breakers in the box! I plan to use Lion Electric for our next project and wouldn't hesitate to recommend him.

Conduit to required emergency shutoff for a new three-zone mini spilt system we're adding. Super-clean work.

Victor RAMIREZ is one super-competent (unflappable! quick! accurate!) electrician, at both the commercial and domestic household level. We're so glad to have a reliable electrician -- our previous one in El Cerrito went out of business (death). Victor ran a new 220v line from downstairs main panel to our new minisplit three-zone Mitsubishi HVAC system, including a beautiful and careful job running new weatherproofed conduit. His work instantly passed muster with the El Cerrito city inspector, and with the HVAC installer (also very good). Victor comes on time, he works hard without any complaint about hauling ladders around, and he's a local guy, which I like very very much. He gets it done -- and this required moving around internal lines inside the main electrical panel, installing a shutoff at the condenser, replacing an outside outlet with a GFCI plug (required now). And the price was eminently reasonable. While we were waiting for the City guy to show up to sign off on the job, I remarked that we had an electrically-operated skylight that had stopped opening; I'd ordered a replacement transformer a year ago, but wasn't enthusiastic about doing precision electrical work on a ladder fifteen feet above the ground. Having Victor do it worked out well, and the added cost totally reasonable. Victor replaced the transformer, got the remote working, noticed a small leak that I'll need to seal off, and cleaned the inside of the skylight (!!!), and then the inspector showed up and signed off on the 220v line. Lion Electric is just great: Our experience in the El Cerrito Hills was solidly good from beginning to end.

My insurance company mandated that I change out my electrical panel, because the brand had a history of causing fires. I contacted five electrical companies to get bids. Lion Electric's estimate was right in the middle of the bid range. The lowest bidder never came to my house, and didn't even ask for pictures. The highest bidder came to my house two hours late, and clearly was not professional in his evaluation of my electrical panel. However, rather than talking about how bad these electricians were, let me tell you have fantastic Lion Electric was. Victor, the owner of Lion Electric, has been in the business for seventeen years. He came to my house and immediately recognized that the panel I had, Federal Pacific, was a hazardous panel and needed to be replaced. He also mentioned several other poorly designed panels that will keep insurance companies from insuring your house. He informed me that I needed to bond my high voltage water heater to my hot and cold water pipes and gas pipe. None of the other electricians mentioned this extreimly hazardous situation. It was very clear to me, that Victor was the man for the job. He left my house and sent me a written estimate, that included grounding the hot water heater. This extra work takes time and placed his estimate at the lowest end of the bidding range because of the extra work that absolutely needed to be done. Victor said he would be at my house at 7am to start the job. I looked out my window at 6:55 am, and saw Victor and his brother, waiting until 7am before they knocked on my door. They came with two fully loaded service trucks, with all the equipment and tools to compete the job. How did the job turn out? They did and absolutely professional job. Truly professionals. Normally I never post reviews but Victor and his brother absolutely deserve recognition for providing value and professionalism. If I can post pictures, I will so you can see the before and after workmanship. If a picture is worth a thousand words, you can see first hand their skill. You will not go wrong with Victor from Iion Electric! Look how clean the new electrical panel on the left looks. How does your electrical panel look inside? Did sloppy electricians make it look like the one on the right? Mine was sloppy and as a result hazardous, and I never knew it because it was covered up. Victor does clean, professional work. The pictures speak for themselves.

Ceiling fan he installed. Quick and clean installation.

Ken is thorough and detail oriented; he does not cut corners. He handled all the permits and has been very easy to work with. Before we started any projects or signed any contracts, Ken and I had a weeks-long conversation where he gave me advice about what was feasible and what was not, and helped me understand what would be required to do the work right. I highly recommend you reach out to Ken if you need electrical work done.

He went through a couple of quick fixes on the phone which could save us some money. I told him we've done that already and we need an electrician to diagnose and fix the problem. He said it'll cost $335 to show up and if he is here over 2hrs, it will be an extra $169/hr. I said okay. Since he is highly rated, I didn't bother calling other electricians for more quotes. I normally get at least 3 then compare. Then he said his appts are 3wks away but has a cancellation for Saturday (today) at 11am. So I said sure and gave him our address and told him to call us when he's here cuz we have to buzz him in the security gate. He said our address is 5mins from his house so no problem. Long story short. He never showed up, no call -nothing! Wasted our time waiting. It is our rental property so I had to drive in before the appt, waited an hour after the appt then left. He may not have wanted to take the job cuz I got the sense that he wasn't enthused and quoted us his price for showing up. Or... he may have forgotten about the appt. Either way, he is the owner and there is no excuse for poor business practice. And for wasting my time I gave him one star since I can't give zero.

Carlos was prompt, professional, explained what the problem was and did the job fast! He arrived at 8:56 AM and was out of our place at 9:28 AM. Things to note: they offer free estimates, but if you need troubleshooting like we did, the current rate is $200 the first hour and $100 per additional hour needed. If it's a simple fix like ours, you pay the troubleshooting cost plus any materials used. They were able to replace our breaker for us the same day as the scheduled diagnostic which was a great peace of mind for us. For more involved repairs, they provide an estimate before you give the okay to move forward. Their prices are more than fair for our area. Brittney's clear responses to my questions made me want to schedule with C. Bates Electric. I appreciated the transparency and professionalism. I had a fan in my master bathroom crap out on me, which was weird, since I only bought my place 4 years ago, it was newly remodeled, & I even remodeled some more on top of that. My wife pointed out it wasn't working, but it looked new to me, so I popped the cover to find out...not new at all. New COVER over a fan that was a year younger than the missus. Uh oh. The old "lipstick on a pig" boogie from the prior owners/ seller. Damn. Hate getting hoodwinked. So, I think "well, better check the 'new' fan in the guest bath too." Pop THAT shiny, nice cover & ...same drill but even OLDER. Some mid-80's (I think) giant 13" circular fan they don't even make anymore. Double ugh. Last stop: laundry room. Final fan, pop the cover...whew, it's actually a new-ish fan. 1 outta 3 ain't bad, right? /sigh So I put out the feelers for an electrician (I had 2 dead outlets, 1 indoor, 1 outdoor as well) & after doing the "online quote" thing w/ Yelp, I got in touch w/ Damon @ Berkeley Home Repair. Funny dude, super helpful, quick & responsive. He schedules his electrician, Carlitos, to come out ASAP, for what I think is gonna just be a basic fan install & outlet fix job. Nope. Carlitos goes into the attic & discovers the ducts are all wrong. 3 fans running thru 2 ducts, both bathrooms on the same 4" line, & laundry room on some weird 3" duct. Now, you can get away with 4", but 6" is code & preferred, & every fan has to be on its own dedicated/ independent duct, or you're just blowing moisture from room to room & into the attic. Not good. We crawl the attic together & confirm I need a 3rd roof penetration & new ducts. So much for cheap & easy. Damn. Damon adjusts the bid (as gently as possible, considering my costs just went up almost 10x) & I wind up with 2 brand new Panasonic Whisper Quiet fans (amazing. Almost TOO quiet), a new roof penetration & cap, new independent 6" ducts for each fan, an excellent sheetrock patch & paintjob on my guest bath ceiling (prior, old-timey fan was just way too huge compared to current models) AND Carlitos fixed both dead power outlets (one of which turned out to be an arcing short/ broken wire inside the wall, which we were lucky to catch before a fire). All the workers were amazing to work with & did great on their specific parts of the now much larger order. Everyone worked quickly &, despite the gig snowballing far beyond the expected, Damon priced fairly & had the work done as fast as possible with minimal intrusion & inconvenience (crucial during these pandemic "work from home" times) Tho it was obviously a bummer to have a small job turn into a much bigger & more expensive one, I always felt like I was in good hands with Damon, his communication was clear, direct, quick & honest, & the outcome was excellent. I'll definitely be using Berkeley Home Repair for future work, since homeownership often means nasty surprises like the one I got ain't all that rare, unfortunately. Heh. At least now I know who to call to get sorted fairly & quickly. Thanks fellas! Will try to post pics when I get a chance...but most of this was "behind the scenes" work, or what my buddy likes to call "invisible money", heh.
