The owner and lead instructor is Erik Dallberg, an expert all three of the major MMA spots (Wrestling, Muy Thai Kickboxing, and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.) Even though Erik's background is in BJJ, he was successful in his first year as a community college wrestler. Erik is a great instructor who walks you through steps as you need them and gives plenty of individualized attention as long as he's not already helping someone else. Highly recommended for beginner, intermediate, and advanced fighters.

And let me tell you, Eric Dahlberg is as good as it gets in terms of coaching. I gave a couple of other martial art places a trial before settling with Ring Demon. Eric doesn't just teach you boxing, kickboxing, wrestling, or jiu-jitsu, he teaches you a way to think about martial arts in general---relying on technique, energy, and leverage instead of strength to defeat your opponents. He is also ALWAYS willing to help out and ask any questions---no private lessons required. I was intimidated at first because the only martial arts experience I had prior to going enrolling in Ring Demon was a few weeks of trial classes and a year of karate way back in high school. But the school's approach to helping new students learn and integrate made me get past my comfort zone and eventually be comfortable enough to learn and spar. Summary: Great coach, great training partners, great environment to learn.

I can't praise them enough!!!…read more My oldest son was being bullied in the 2nd grade, which lead to a lack of confidence and a lot of anxiety. He was having a hard time in school and showing signs of depression at just seven years old. We knew of Ms. Mari's because my Nephew and Sister were former students who loved training there. They run a two month trial which allows you to see if this is something you would like to commit to. This deal is AMAZING! Two months of lessons with a uniform for just $99. I signed up both my seven and five year old sons and never looked back. One of the best parenting decisions I have made. My oldest has gained considerable confidence and belief in himself, while my five year old son is showing more respect and curbing his quick temper. They show the Tae Kwon Do moves and also explain the way you would use them in a real life application. If a student is in need of more assistance with a specific move they will have an instructor, or peer with a higher belt work solo with them to ensure that they get it. Do not hesitate to try Ms. Mari's! She's an amazing instructor and anyone fortunate enough to train with her should consider themselves lucky.

Ms Mari and her staff are kind but firm and our boys are learning skills for self defense as well as self confidence. This year our oldest has joined the leadership team which will continue his personal growth. For us it is an after school care option that provides physical activity with discipline. We highly recommend this dojang for your kiddos.

I read a review on another fellow traveler that had a good time here, so I decided to call and Instructor Foster answered and was extremely cool on the phone and welcomed my visit! I got there and was surprised at the size of the place! There were a lot of students and they have a healthy amount of colored belts! It wasn't hard to make friends and drills were great! Lots of places teach moves, but Instr. Foster pushed the concept. First roll was with Instructor Foster, and I don't know about you, but I love rolling with black belts! It's amazing how advanced they are! Rolling with new schools are great because you get to feel their techniques. Very strong guards here in both offense and defense. Lots of pressure and technique! These guys are legit! I was invited to visit the next day too, and I would've totally gone, but my hotel didn't have a laundry room, and I didn't have time to drop my gi off at a cleaner. I'm definitely reaching out next chance I get!

I saw this place being recommended by many of the local moms in the Maple Valley/Covington Mom group on facebook, so I checked out their website and found that Han Mu Do incorporates Aikido/Hapkido in their teaching! I contacted Washington Han Mu Do for my son to attend the trial class. My son loved the trial class, and he wanted to continue (He is one of the most undecisive kid on this earth, and him wanting to continue is a big deal). It's been almost 2 months since he started, and he loves the classes. The environment is very family friendly and they teach the kids respect and discipline in addition to martial arts (which my son needs badly). Their prime location is also what sealed the deal for us. They are located within close distance from the local elementary schools, which makes it convenient to take my son to the class after picking him up from the after school program. In the same center, there is Taco Time and McDonalds just across the street for easy dinner after the class.

Not so great if you want a mix of the physical and mental, yin and yang, contrary to the yin-yang symbol incorporate into their logo. While Han Mu Do is a good form of martial arts, the Maple Valley location is the only location in Washington State. You will likely start over if you leave. With only a few licensed instructors, mature students are often relied upon heavily to lead lower students and classes. Favorites are compensated, others are not. As a result, the schedule is not reliable due to leader availability. Unlike Washington Han Mu Do, other martial arts studios often include some aspects of Asian philosophy, such as an active focus on the balance between mind and body, meditation as part of the session, and understanding that spirit and body need to be in harmony. This studio is about forms, sets, and workouts. Repeat. Overall, a good cost to experience ratio when compared to a gym or other exercise place. But is that really what you wanted to do when you join a martial arts studio?
