During the week there is a tiny shop open in the waiting room where you can get the newspapers, chips, candy. There are bathrooms as well. You can get the N15 or N16 busses at this station as well. There is no indoor waiting area up on the platform, so if weather isn't good I would stay downstairs (as long as the waiting area is open) until the train comes.

As with most LIRR stations, nice indoor waiting area with a screen telling you when the next trains are and which track. There are also ticket machines here as well as a ticket booth where you can speak to someone if needed. They are only open business hours though I assume. There are also restrooms here as well. The station house has one bathroom, a few shelves of books, and a little newsstand; everything you need and nothing you don't. A few fresh coats of paint would honestly do wonders for the place, but it seems to be holding up. At the very least it smells clean enough. There's only one platform, and it looks similarly dilapidated, though serviceable. The neighborhood is nothing to write home about either, unless you're really into E-list historical landmarks.

First time in New York and I had no clue that I couldn't pay for my ticket on board. There were no signs. There was no indication that I had to use an app or that using an app would be the workaround for the issue. Also, as we made her way from the entrance of the train station to the tracks, there was not a single vending machine in sight. If we had searched for it, we would've missed our train. If this is what New York wants to do to their tourists when they visit no thank you I'm not coming here again.

The trains are usually on time and there are minimum delays. The only thing I wish they had was an additional ticket station because at the beginning of the month it is usually long lines and a long wait to get train tickets which sometimes causes me to miss the train. Also during extreme cold the ticket stations stop working properly.

While you are waiting for the train you can grab a bagel and some coffee at the Dunkin Donuts which is open 24 hrs a day. They have the automated ticket machine right at the front of the track. It is quick and easy to use. Trains almost always on time. One of the cheaper train lines to ride.
