There is a waiting area that was well heated when I had to wait for my train, along with a small mini mart inside. If you are going to the outlets, there is a free shuttle bus that will take you there and back to the train. LIRR!! The Long Island Rail Road!! As a die hard How I Met Your Mother fan I remember when Lily and Marshall moved to Long Island and the gang had to take the train to see them. THIS IS THE TRAIN!! *Remember the episode of the DRUNK TRAIN... I'm living it* I'm in New York visiting my friends and the live on Long Island. When we go to the city we can drive in or take the LIRR!! Pros -- Apparently you can drink on the LIRR! ?!?! You don't even need to hide it. You can sit back and relax and do other things or nap while the train takes you to and from the city. Most of the time it is pretty easy to find a seat and the train has AC. Some seats even have OUTLETS!! That's the dream!! Cons -- Very specific and potentially limited train schedule to get on and off. Crowds during commuting and prime time. Overall extremely convenient and saves you the trouble and hassle of driving into the city. If the schedule aligns it's probably easier to take the LIRR than to drive into the city and struggle for parking and still walking around. read more

Plenty of parking now that the mask wearers work from home ..... But be warned when that 3:55 from Penn lets out at 5:00 you do not want to be there. Thats when Mike and Chris ... "friends" of mine get off the train . Chris parks on the Southside of the train tracks and jumps the railing to get to-his car quicker, while yelling "parkour" which is very dangerous. He often kicks up rocks when he lands and one time a rock hit me in the face and scratched my lenses. Mike just stood there and laughed at me when that happened. Mike that piece of shit also does something extremely dangerous when he exits the train but i cant mention it because he is a piece of shit . WHY YOU ASK ? Two words ... HAPPY HOUR !!!! . If you read my check-ins, I really, really hate the LIRR. So clearly it would take a lot to warrant a higher starred rating. In the station waiting room it smells awful, and being that it has been so cold and open around the clock it's even worse. The floor is also incredibly slippery and I almost fell when I walked in the door. I don't know why the LIRR doesn't do this, but they have no clocks anywhere. Not even on the electronic ticker that says the train times. I don't want to have my phone out in these kinds of places because it's liable to get lost of stolen (there's even a poster in the station telling you not to take them out for this reason), so can you really blame me for getting made that there's no where else to look?! Plus, when the ticket tells you the train is going to be late, late by say 13 minutes, does that mean from the original time or the time that it now is since it has passed. There's no explanation for it. This station does have a wonderfully large parking lot and even has sort of a shelter for the car. There is only one plug the charge any electronic device, but at least there's free wifi. There is also a small convenience stand inside the station. They do sell coffee, but I've always been deterred by watching people wince and subsequently toss it directly in the trash after a sip. read more

There are three things I look for when it comes to stations: 1. Safety, 2. Cleanliness, and 3. Parking. Deer Park has two out of those three. It is extremely clean and safe. Although they do have a large parking lot and now an extended overflow parking lot, it still does not seem to be enough parking spots. I have gotten here at 8 AM before and missed a train because there was not one spot to be found. They do have free parking. read more

They did a major renovation to the bldg and wait along the tracks but they overlooked this. When its pouring rain or snow/ice the over pass and metal steps are dangerous. Map's a little off: enter via Long Island Avenue, not Pine Aire Drive. If you're arriving from Sagtikos, that means crossing the tracks. The DP station is in comparatively better shape than the surrounding stations. It isn't exactly the epitome of prettiness (it's a train station), but there are little issues with parking, vandalism, the usual rigmarole. Trains to NYC (Penn Station) usually arrive on the closer track, returning trains on the farther track, so you'll have to use the bridge or get picked up on the other side. There are usually taxis hanging around, and during the day there's a tram to and from the Tanger outlets. I've never used them, myself, but Tanger is pretty great if you dig consumerism. You can usually get a seat by this stop, but remember that Huntington is the terminal stop of its line if you want a guaranteed seat--it's not that far away. read more

ahhh, Deer Park LIRR train station. Fond memories! When I worked in the city, this was the station I sped to when I woke up to late and realized "I'm not going to make the Ronkonkoma train." However, the best part about this place is that...they had an express come by 25 minutes after the 6:39 at Ronkonkoma, and there is only 2 stops to Penn! I could get over to Deer Park easily by highways, and hop on the train and fall asleep without having to worry about 2,000,000,000 people coming on at the next 45 stops. Even better, they have COVERED PARKING! I didn't realize how awesome that was, until this winter and constantly going into work wondering how in the hell I was going to make it home if it snowed as much as it was supposed to. Well, when I made it to Deer Park for the express, I didn't have to worry! The covered parking kept my car clean, and it made the whole snow experience that much less annoying. They also have a tiny area to wait in when the temperatures are dipping into the negatives (seriously, screw this Winter), and lots of people utilized it! I submitted a request to change the name of this listing to Deer Park LIRR Station, because I think it's stupid to have a train station just labeled LIRR Station (so when searching it's more annoying), but I guess it wasn't changed! read more

One of the bigger LIRR stations in regards to parking, note that parking is also free and does not require a town permit. I usually go in from Kings Park during peak hours and when I'm going in for non-work related stuff I come here now rather than Huntington Station. Its quicker to come here from Kings Park/Commack off the Sunken Meadow than it is for me to take Pulaski all the way to Huntington and get screwed over by the lights. The parking here gets filled real fast and if your lucky you can get away with parallel parking in non parking spot areas but I got away with that when it snowed. This is the LIRR's main line as well as the busiest I believe, you get the newer trains but single leveled (Port Jeff Line always gets double deckered trains woot woot). After reading about car robberies and thefts at Huntington its safe to say I'll train out of here when I can't from Kings Park. read more
